Thanks Babs03 but why on earth would Hamas only agree to return 10 hostages? How crazy is Hamas? Such disrespect for human life.

Man made famine - the world should be ashamed
(435 Posts)We sit by watching as children starve to death, their mothers’ cannot feed them and their fathers’ unable to provide them with food.
Every single calorie is controlled by one government.
Why are we allowing this situation to continue?
If those denying any ill-doing by Netanyahu are happy to blame Hamas for all human suffering in Gaza, how do they square this circle in the West Bank, where the IDF has been attacking Palestinians and more illegal settlements have been permitted??
You can’t blame Hamas for this, and it has been going on for decades.
Israel doesn't care about the hostages David and an increasing number of Israelis don't think so either.

As individuals there is little we can do and I won't share the guilt of those powerful enough to intervene.
I am distressed by the treatment of the Palestinians and wonder at those who believe Israel is right and have no compassion for the suffering inflicted on the innocents.
It does make me feel guilty, that's really why I get so disturbed about this one. I have been on a protest march, but only once in 2 years & no-one seems to get why we're marching anyhow.
I wasn't interested in News & P when Northern Ireland was on, & although I didn't support our invasion of Iraq (over WMD) it was done & dusted fairly soon & without undeniable atrocities.
I know we're not a party to this combat but Israel is an ally and we have given support, particularly public relations support, faithfully relaying whatever excuses the Israeli spokespeople make up.
And the world is not impotent - with Russia there's no surefire way of stopping Putin, but in Gaza, Trump could stop the atrocities if he gave Netanyahu a threatening enough ultimatum. Israel's strength is borrowed strength, from the US.

The BBC online news is that Gaza City will be obliterated if the Israeli hostages are not released.
Why is Hamas refusing to release 20 hostages and presumably 30 corpses? Why?
How is this in any way defensible?
Hamas agreed to a ceasefire and the release of hostages on Monday but Israel haven’t agreed yet.
Because 20 live hostages give them as much power over Israel as several million Palestinians.
Israel does care about hostages, Hamas don’t care how many Palestinians die, the more children the better its more propaganda value.
How is the obliteration of Gaza City defensible?
100% agree.

I have scrolled through as I wish to respond to the OP's statement, not read anything else.
I am ashamed and very very selfishly I am concerned about my MH, especially when we have so much and others don't.
Take Care of yourself OP, a compassionate person.
Wyllow3 do you mean when gave them aid or took the Aids infection to them?
If you are referring to the AIDS infection it has been traced back to non-human primates in Central and West Africa.

So we are ignoring Sudan which is currently the worst crisis.
Well that's our racism for you from all strata of UK society
The Sudan was part of the combined British and Egyptian Empires: people are black Africans, part of a continent carved up by European nations:
they were only after all (sarcasm button firmly on) "Natives"
we, the Great White Leaders Bringing Civilisation and Missionaries, did send some thoughtful and well intentioned people, but also sent our cast off aristocrats, our greedy business people, we brought them Aids, but the US have defunded initiatives to help:
we turned their communities and subsistence "grow your own food" into industrial agriculture for cheap food flown over polluting the atmosphere....
The education we offered was a white history and we cast them off in a hurry in just a few mostly post WW2 years, such a hurry ...
....that the vacuums left in power were often like in Zimbabwe and Sudan (not always, look at Botswana)
rapid and ill thought through attempts at establishing an imposed democracy failed and what followed was tyranny by fighting for a tyranny:
the right scweam and scweam at the very thought of any responsibility or reparations
And its easier to wring hands and say "how awful" and then cut aid budgets further
It's because they are black. We opened our hearts and front doors to Ukrainians - gosh they are white Europeans - when as you say yourself David....
no one mentions it.
CariadAgain thank you for the insights into what was happening in the 1940s. from someone who was there. Things haven't changed it seems.
So where are the governments demanding that Hamas stop fighting, they are in control in Gaza
Netanyahu has denied that there is a famine. He reckons the UN have got their stats wrong. Yes, he is an evil man but he is kowtowing to people who are even worse than him. Then to make things worse, trump won’t do the decent thing and condemn Netanyahu and his government.
The declaration of a State of Palestine (Arabic: دولة فلسطين) took place in Algiers on November 15, 1988, by the Palestinian National Council, the legislative body of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

Hi, I wonder if those of you who have a pet cat have any recommendations for an automatic cat feeder which works over a week/7days? My cat does have a chip but the ones that open by recognising the chip seem to only work for one day, (3 meals). Also, my cat has access to the garage by cat flap and another (friendly) local cat calls and also eats his food!! Any help would be appreciated !! Thanks

Does anybody remember what started this and who started it? Hamas kidnapped and killed Israeli citizens. That’s what started all this. The mess is of their making. Those Israeli citizens are also being starved to death by Hamas while in captive.
Wrong. Wrong.....very very wrong.
The start was back in the late 1940's - when I'm ashamed to say our own Government was complicit in breaking off a part of Palestine and giving it to the Israelis (and not caring a bit that it is Palestine and belongs to the Palestinians).
There are some pretty good videos on YouTube explaining about the Naqba - ie the period when the Israeli Government and individual Jews threw Palestinians off their own land.
Guess I should set up a seance to contact my father though should I for further information (ie because he's dead). I've blocked many of the memories of my armed forces childhood (for obvious reasons in the circumstances) - but I do remember my father telling me that, before he met my mother/his wife, he had been sent out to Palestine in the late 1940's at the time of the Naqba. His comments were "Ugh!!!! Those Israelis......awful....awful....they were chasing them (ie the Palestinians), they were killing them" and shuddering at the remembrance of what the Israelis were like. His final comment "We had to protect THEM (ie the Palestinians)" (ie because the Israelis were being so awful to them).
They've not stopped since - they have been steadily stealing Palestine bit by little bit ever since and are still at it...
What are they supposed to do as their land gets steadily stolen off them (both by the Israeli Government and by settlers). Yep....plenty of YouTube videos and replays of news programmes of groups of settlers driving people off their land/destroying their villages/etc.

Hamas could end this tomorrow but they won’t with so many supporters world wide giving them hope.
Who are these supporters of Hamas?
Deflection again. Do you really believe if Hamas concede defeat that Israel will stop their plan to send all remaining Palestinians to their prison camps?

It would become very confusing if we try to discuss Gaza and Sudan in the same thread.
It's easy to start a new thread but I think this is the usual 'change the subject' by those who try to deflect from the brutality happening in Gaza.
There is a thread on alleged genocide in Gaza , much said about alleged famine , started by same O/Poster

The events of Oct' 07th were horrendous - there can be no disputing that.
However...if you treat people in the way Israel has since 1948 i.e massacres, expulsions - even using biological weapons how can anyone dispute that what is happening is ethnic cleansing / genocide.
I can't understand why the world is allowing this to happen...
Genocide since 1948 ?
I’m absolutely done with the ‘Who started this and whose fault is it’ arguments when there is proof that children are starving. Anybody who thinks that the death of children is justified in the name of politics is not somebody I can respect.
