It’s easy to throw stones, not easy to catch them.
LAST TWO LETTERS GAME 13 (Following game 12)
A drop in the ocean in the great schemes of things....but replicated by how many more
I am now 87 years old and and i have seen many changes to this country , the labor party was at one time for the working people , they looked after the elderly and lower paid workers but things have changed ,they are hitting hard the people who cannot afford to buy new electric cars and have to rely on used cars but now they are going to raise the tax on older vehicles while the rich who can afford the new get off lightly , and what about the pensioners who have payed tax all their working lives have to pay tax on their pensions when are they going to hit their rich friends
It’s easy to throw stones, not easy to catch them.
Well Labour is finding that out now isn’t it? Casdon
They realise they didn’t have all the answers so went out to look for the missing pieces of the jigsaw do you mean? I’ve thought hard, I can’t think of any government, ever, that had all the answers, if there had been they would still be in power.
I am seriously thinking that government is a very overrated institution.
I don’t expect them to have all the answers but so far they are so disappointing that unless they start producing good ideas and policies there may well be a GE sooner than they thought.
The current lame idea for those with non custodial sentences is just laughable.Who’s going to enforce their not getting into pubs and concerts? Don’t say the probation service, who at the moment must be shaking their heads in despair.

I saw that on the news tonight. Daft unworkable idea. 🤣

Prisoners on parole prisoners or licence will presumably wear the electronic monitoring devices, such as ankle tags with GPS, to track their whereabouts and enforce curfews or other conditions, won’t they, so it will be enforceable, they do it already.
Sorry extra prisoner in there!
It’s not for prisoners on parole, it’s for those who get community orders.
There’s no way in hell anyone will know if they’re enjoying a pint in their local or go to a gig.
It’s a stupid ill thought out idea by some bright boy spad, who’s actually not all that bright.
It's cheaper than building more prisons.
Just wondering if the current government is actually supporting and putting forward some of the arguments here on their own behalf. The only feasible explanation for a particular poster.
Another totally unthought out un enforceable law. Don't this government think anything through? . I am more than willing to vet their crack pot proposals.

If you mean me nanna8 no, I’m not a representative of the Labour government, nor am I left wing, I’m very much centre left, and I vote Lib Dem because that’s the best available option where I live.
However, I do support the government in its intentions to make the UK fairer for all, and get frustrated by people who do no checking before they post, and misrepresent the facts of what the government are doing. The scaremongering on Gransnet is just silly a lot of the time, why we engage in personality politics and can’t have sensible discussions about topics without getting into the ridiculous right/left mudslinging is beyond me.
I also voted Lib Dem because I wanted the Tory idiots out and so did many others, now weve got a busy MP that cares about local issues
Regrettably despite starting with policies that looked promising to revive the economy Labour now are struggling to control the deficit because their own MP won’t support the economies needed to control spending. The option to increase taxes is going to be very unpopular because to get enough extra revenue it’s going to hurt a lot of ordinary people.
I did check the government website for this daft new initiative and I can’t believe it will work, how possibly could it? Is the pub landlord or bar staff supposed to ask every customer if they have a community order? And tbh I see it as very unfair, if they’re already attending their community work then that should be enough. What needs to be done is getting enough staff to enforce the community work so that all attend.
This initiative is a dipstick reaction to voters who want proper sentencing ( not sure we have that after seeing two tier sentencing) it’s ill thought out and probation officers simply cannot be everywhere enforcing things.
It’s one of those shiny wonk policies they trot out to show that they are ‘doing something’ but nobody is fooled.
As for tags we were with friends in Spain three years ago, sitting outside having a coffee in a back street bar/restaurant used by locals.
It was impossible not to hear the man on the next table boasting about how he was here complete with tag on show (shorts and sandals) as he was attending his Nan’s funeral. He then went on to laugh saying she had died many years ago.
Whatever new rules any government being in the criminal fraternity will always find a way round it.
The only solution is to build new prisons/detention facilities.
Casdon
She isn’t taking action for the sake of it ronib, on migration she’s learning from what has been successful and unsuccessful in other countries, and working with them to improve what is a problem of the western world. If there was a magic wand it would have been waved years ago - there isn’t. The only way to improve things is to do the grind, make a range of changes which together will do so. Sometimes the lack of understanding of what a complex problem this is by some Gransnetters does amaze me.
I don't think Yvette Cooper is learning from what has been successful in other countries, otherwise she would look at Australia, Poland, Denmark, Hungary amongst others who have managed huge decreases in the number of illegal immigrants entering their countries.
She is just not strong enough to make the difficult decisions needed to resolve this
What few yet realise is Reform is economically left wing.
In what way is Reform 'economically left wing', JohnnyMo?
From what I've seen, they're as economically illiterate as the rest of the UK parties.

^Not at all. We were just desperate for ANYTHING BUT THE TORIES.^
The real problem isn’t Labour it’s Starmer.
No. The real problem is those who voted exactly as you say, anything but the Tories, without looking at the credentials of those they voted for, or those simply did not bother to vote at all.
The same thing will happen should there be a General Election. People will vote for Reform without even setting eyes on their local representative, and then discover they are totally unable to deliver their impractical promises because it is all Farage telling voters what he thinks they want to hear.
Starmer promised endless solutions when he was in opposition, while consistently voting against measures the Tories were trying to introduce to reduce migration. Now he is experiencing just how difficult it is to get his plans through, in his case due to opposition from his own backbenchers.
That’s what desperate people do. I voted Greens because at least they were honest about the cost of dragging us out of the mire. But Starmer (yes and RR) sold this ‘no tax rise’ myth.
But yes eazybee their incompetence is opening the door to Farage and his illiterati.
Furret- so according to you (Farage and his illiterati), Reform voters are ignorant. How very rude!
