Would you fly a flag for your country?

I was born in England but am of Irish heritage, I am proud of both England and Ireland.

My daughter lives on the outskirts of a village that has scores of union flags flying, it lifts my spirits as we drive in.

On a recent trip to Norway I loved seeing all the homes flying their flag and wondered why we don’t have same sense of patriotism.

I will fly a flag, I’m going to order a pole and we will fly the flag my husbands grandparents flew on their flagpole on VE Day.

I am not a racist, our grandchildren are mixed race, we have friends who are Congolese, Sri Lankan, Egyptian etc.

I am however British and very proud, we need to reclaim our flag and our pride.

I do not like the SNP flag my neighbour flies from huge flagpole in front garden.

If he flew a lion rampart or union jack I would be happy.

we all have our preferences.

There is absolutely no need for any of these asylum seekers to come to the UK.
They are leaving the perfectly safe country of France to come here and take the absolute P* out of us.
France won’t put them up in hotels and pander to them.
That’s the only reason they don’t stay there.

Françe do use hotels if there is no space in a reception centre they also receive ADA, asylum seeker allowance and are entitled to healthcare. The reasons for pushing on to the UK are more complex that wanting an hotel room.

Yes I would and I have on occasions. I would have the National Anthem sung in every school in the country every morning too.

Good Lord! Do you want to turn this country into America?

The Americans fly their flags and sing their National Anthem. It is their country and they are proud of it.
Here we are far too concerned with upsetting other cultures with words like Christmas and flying our flags. We almost apologise for our culture and beliefs.
I don't like all American trends but being patriotic is one I would happily follow.

Well said Sarnia 👏👏👏

We have long been told what we can and can’t do in our kids schools regarding religious celebrations like Nativity plays, Christmas, Easter and so on. Americans wouldn’t put up with that!

Oh dear. More old chestnuts being trotted out.

So, Kandinsky, you believe in isolationism?

I would like to know the aim of these young men settling here in our town-as I am seeing a huge shift in our town, more men to women, I can’t see them settling down with the woman of our town, tbh.

I assumed the flags were for the England team in the women's rugby World Cup. We have always put flags out for big sporting events but not this time as it has all taken on a political twist.

*Absolutely ludicrous nonsense*

So you know the motivation of every single asylum seeker that come here?
From the perfectly safe country they’re already in?
Wow.

We certainly know that you are either completely ignorant of the international conventions on refugees and asylum seekers or just brainwashed by anti asylum seeker propaganda.

There is no obligation for refugees and asylum seekers to stay in any particular “safe country’.

Lets face it, England is toothless now, its all been driven out by people that don’t care for it but live here

Absolutely.

foxie48 Sat 30-Aug-25 07:53:30

Allsorts England is neither toothless nor is it full of people who don't care about their country. People may not agree with you, we may have different values and aspirations for the sort of country we want to live in, we may share some of the same concerns as you but have different solutions. We may also appreciate that the issues of migration and the problems they bring are not unique to Britain and will not be solved by waving flags that intimidate people living here who are both legal and welcome.
The previous government made a huge mess of this issue, put more asylum seekers in hotels, deported fewer people whenever they'd been found to have no right to stay and to date this government has processed people at a faster rate and spent a lot less money with better results. At least we have some progress. The flag waving, braying protesters standing outside hotels are not showing their love and pride in England and anyone who thinks they are should examine their own motivations . Three arrests at Epping yesterday, one for violent disorder, one for assaulting a policeman and one for drunk driving. Such lovely people.

I am in that county, that is from a much longer statement that was clear it was one particular flag they were taking down. I actually thought it was a sensible statement and I don't support reform.

Well, you would think so!
