Since I can’t see a thread about the Deputy PM and Housing Minister, Angela Rayner I am starting one. 😉

All the main newspapers are headlining this story but most have a paywall and this one doesn’t.

There’s no doubt she has come far from her humble beginnings but this demonstrates to me that she is very out of touch with people.

Yes Nadine is making a comeback. Unfortunately someone on Facebook has resurrected a post Farage made about her some years ago. OOOOPs. Not a nice man.

It’ll bounce off his back. Everything does. Maybe the reason that Reform don’t seem to be scrutinised in the way that other parties are is that, with members like Dorries and Widdecombe nobody takes them seriously? And Farage is quite happy to act the clown, too. They get away with things that no other parties do.It astounds me.

There are two new threads about the reshuffle

Let’s have a 3rd! 😂

But then this thread wouldnt reach 1000 comments! (Not that I'm encouraging that! 🤣)

Personally, I think enough has been said to get the full picture. Anyway, several people on here came close to the truth days ago. The speed with which the investigation declared the overriding issue that AR cannot be considered to have met the 'highest possible standards of proper conduct serves to show how evident her mistake was. No arguing, no excuses.

I'm glad it's the weekend and that this will all die down a bit for the sake of her family. Sadly she will bear the brunt of it forever in her working life, but for the rest I think she should be left alone.

foxie48 Sat 06-Sept-25 08:17:04

She'll bear the brunt financially too. Losing the salary that goes with the ministerial job might mean she can no longer pay her mortgage. She might have to sell, losing all of the stamp duty and costs buying the flat and selling for less than she paid. I feel sorry for her as she'll also lose her grace and favour home.
I sincerely hope people leave her alone now. David Warburton, who resigned after a scandal was found dead last week. We should remember these people are humans, they may be flawed and you might not like them but there should be limits to the abuse they receive in the media.

foxie48 Angela Rayner will receive an amount on leaving office. Let’s hope it covers her tax bill.
As for not paying her mortgage, this is a flight of fancy on your part. Wait and see. She has rich and powerful friends.
Do you remember the time politicians served the people, instead of themselves? Or was that an illusion too?

Iam64 Sat 06-Sept-25 09:00:41

No surprise that I agree with Roxie,s comments . She’s human like we are, imagine how she must be feeling this weekend.

When was this golden age when politicians were saints ?

Iam64 Sat 06-Sept-25 09:07:53

Foxie ! Predictive text so sneaky

foxie48 Sat 06-Sept-25 09:10:49

"this is a flight of fancy" no not at all, just a human reaction to someone's distress. I'm not someone who goes in for schadenfreude even towards those I dislike or distrust. Just the way I am!

I have no pleasure from reading about this government. But I do try and keep some sense of reality. foxie48

Same here.
She isn’t going to be joining the queue for social housing anytime soon.
She will have an MP’s salary.
Would anyone care if she were a man? Doubt it.

ronib Sat 06-Sept-25 10:35:26

I do believe that AR may still have some kind of relationship with Sam Tarry who has received significant sums from government. And so it drags on.

They weren't saints but there was less publicity and no social media!

Presumably AR will now lose her "grace and favour" apartment in London. I guess that means that she will now be able to rent somewhere in London with expenses paid.

Mollygo Sat 06-Sept-25 13:21:50

Where exactly will she live? Is the flat in Hove her only house now?

growstuff Sat 06-Sept-25 13:43:06

It's the only home where her name is on the title deeds, so it is her only home. She stays in the "trust" home when she goes to Ashton.

I looked her up on IPSA. She was paying rent on accommodation in London until December 2024 and claiming the rent on expenses.

I don't know whether she stopped paying rent in December 2024 or whether the details haven't yet been filed. Has she only had the "grace and favour" flat since December 2024 or did she have to pay rent on it? I have no idea, but she will legitimately be able to claim expenses for accommodation in London. The going rate for MPs from outside London for accommodation in London seems to be about £30,000 per annum.

escaped Sat 06-Sept-25 13:54:35

If she likes Brighton, and feels she is comfortable there, then I would live in the flat and commute. It's what lots of people do.

Or rent in London on expenses and let the Brighton flat to provide additional income.

That would be the savvy thing to do.

Wrong. Rayner will not receive an amount on leaving office. Generally, a lump sum, equivalent of one quarter of the annual ministerial salary, is payable when a minister stops holding office. A departing minister would herefore receive severance pay of £16,876. But ministers leaving office after a breach of the Ministerial Code forgo severance pay.

As for anyone else paying her mortgage for her, that is pure speculation.

Would she want to continue living there? The gutter press have revealed her address and the place has already been vandalised externally. She won't be safe there. Starmer's property was subject to an arson attack earlier this year.

However much people may dislike a politician, is it right and decent that the media puts their life in danger?

ronib Sat 06-Sept-25 15:50:20

PaynesGrey wrong. The new rules on severance pay are not yet implemented and take effect from October!!
You couldn’t make it up …..

As one Niece and 1 DGS have found out to their cost. No one offered them expenses. Maybe they should have gone in for politics instead of the NHS.

I don't think Angela's on her uppers, so I'm not going to worry about whether or not she can afford the mortgage. She will also be able to claim expenses to pay for a flat in London or hotel expenses after a late night sitting.
