Julie McDougall. Scottish former Labour MP, has joined Reform to become the 16th defection north of the border. She represents Burntisland, Kinghorn and West Kirkcaldy. She is the daughter of former Labour MP John MacDougall, who held the seat of Glenrothes.

She said ‘after thoughtful consultation I am delighted to join Reform UK to become part of a team who want to deliver real change for our communities.’

I feel so cheered up that Reform UK is attracting such quality politicians, there may be real hope for the future.

Don't they all offer real change for our communities until they get into power?

Can you give a link to where Julie McDougall has EVER been an MP?

Such a quality politician, she didn't even bother to point out that she wasn't actually a former labour MP.

I suspect it's OP's error but did ask for a link.

Yes, I must have misread it, apologies. It was her father who was an MP and she is a councillor.

She's probably setting herself up as a future Reform candidate in next year's Scottish election.

Hope so.

She's been a councillor for three years.

so, what makes her a "quality politician" ?

I'd love to know what this 'real change' is that Reform are hoping to bring?

NF has outlined that recently, all sounds good to me. I fully agree with Reform controlled councils refusing to fund gay pride marches. These sensible decisions not to waste taxpayers money will likely continue if in government.

Looks like Reform will give permission for extensive fracking. I imagine the nimbys will not be too happy with that. But at least whilst their countryside is being fractured they can console themselves with the fact that the council doesn’t involve itself with gay pride parades.

Babs03 Mon 25-Aug-25 23:17:33

And a handy fact to know is that not all councils fund gay pride parades anyway, and some places don’t have a parade so the problem doesn’t arise, but of course anything can be made into a major issue if one thinks it will win votes.

Its good to know that where the marches do exist they will not be funded with taxpayer’s money though. I thought fracking was a good thing?

Thought thought wrong- if fracking is such a good thing why is there so much opposition to it from all quarters? Look it up.

The town next to me had a Gay Pride weekend a couple of weeks ago. It was all self funded, including the parade .
There was likely to have been a cost in extra policing, but that is true of all parades, including their carnival.
I was at the railway station quite late on the Saturday, having visited a friend, and the atmosphere was very convivial and chatty, including the transport police.
What other policies do you like, Teazel2?
