In my opinion anyone applying for asylum in the U.K. should respect our culture and customs and not go about committing crimes.
That applies to all seeking to live here and become a citizen of the U.K.

“Migrants are more important than residents" A statement that the Labour party will live to regret?
(411 Posts)I think so.
It was their appeal statement in Court. To overturn the previous decision about housing migrants in that hotel in Epping it was their salvo.
Well I think it’s just put a nail in their coffin.
What do you think?

Speaking logically, there was no other option. There is no alternative accommodation immediately available. I do realise that logic is out of the window on threads like this of course though.
There is to be a full hearing in October.
What this appeal has done is halt the injunction which meant the hotel had to be cleared before the full hearing takes place.
Not only that, it incentivised protest, by encouraging others to protest so they could claim that asylum seekers are damaging community cohesion. It's like punishing a victim because the bully won't go away.
The only person who claimed that migrants are more important than residents is Chris Philp (unless somebody can come up with a transcript of the hearing).
Yes, and I was also thinking of the wider implications, because there is the potential for all hotels housing migrants to be subject to closure if there are similar objections. It sets a precedent which will leave a huge logistical problem if there are thousands of migrants with no housing.

^And that asylum seeker is in custody!
Are the local residents worried about all the other child abusers in their midst?^
Precisely growstuff.
I imagine all citizens are worried about child abusers in their midst, regardless of colour or creed.

I believe Lord Justice Bean is involved in Matrix, isn’t that where Cherie Blair plied her trade? This has been reported online so it’s allegedly but still…..
Great username!
Ive had that username for a long time, like you. Is that all you can come up with.
Charming reply! Was it really necessary? Honestly, some people on here need to find a bit of humour and kindness! Why would anyone want to hurt somebody else deliberately? The mind boggles!

Judge who ruled in favour of Epping Forest council, 4 times Tory candidate:
“Sir Stephen Eyre, the high court judge who ruled in favour of Epping Forest council earlier this month was a Conservative parliamentary candidate four times.
His most high-profile bid to become an MP came in the 2004 Birmingham Hodge Hill by-election, won by current Labour MP and former minister Liam Byrne.
Appointed a high court judge by then Lord Chancellor Dominic Raab in 2021, Sir Stephen was a Tory candidate while working as a barrister.
His first attempt came in 1987, when he stood in Hodge Hill in that year's general election, coming second behind Labour's Terry Davis.
Then in 1992, the year of John Major's 21-seat election victory, he stood for the Northern Ireland Conservatives in the unionist stronghold of Strangford.
Eyre, as he then was, came fourth behind the official Unionists' John Taylor, with current Democratic Unionist MP for Antrim East Sammy Wilson in second place.
In 2001, he stood in Stourbridge, where he again came second, this time to Labour's Debra Shipley, when he cut her majority from nearly 6,000 to under 4,000.
And in the 2004 by-election, he came a distant third as Mr Byrne scraped in by just 460 votes ahead of the Liberal Democrats, who benefited from an Iraq war backlash.”

It was the Conservative party that started housing migrants in hotels. Labour have said they will stop doing so but it can’t happen overnight. Yet another click bait heading that gransnet are happy to allow.
Correct MayBee.
Why weren’t people protesting about asylum seekers in hotels 2 years ago - when the Tories were in power? Why are they suddenly so angry now🤔
Why weren’t Tory councils taking the government to court about asylum seekers in hotels 2 years ago - when the Tories were in power? Why now🤔
Why weren’t bus loads of right wing, flag draped protesters flying around the country 2 years ago - when the Tories were in power🤔
Strange isn’t it … when the number of hotels housing asylum seekers has almost halved under the Labour government - but we’re suddenly so angry now!
Why not 2 years ago???I know why the people of Epping are angry.
There is currently a court case involving a migrant resident of The Bell Hotel sexually assaulting a child.
FYI I was not in agreement with the Conservatives using Hotels to house migrants.

Just another complete effing stitch up by Starmer and all his legal cronies - makes me sick. But hey, carry on paying taxpayer 😡😡
And who exactly are English, Uk or British[I never get my head around that] MPs actually serving?
Who is the real boss?
Because it is not the voters/uk citizens.
As has been touted for a long while.
Time for me to look up conspiracy theories on this issue.
A government[and can prob include a conservative one in this too] who isnt working for the good of the Uk, is worse than useless.

The Telegraph spells it out loud and clear. Don’t take my word, read for yourselves.

Can you use google growstuff?
Yes. Can you?
The court did not use the words claimed.
Yet again, this is a twisted version of the truth.
The judge was a founding member of Matrix Chambers when it was set up in 2000. Lord Hermer, the Attorney General, also practised there.
Another Matrix alumnus is Phillipe Sands, the lawyer who represented Mauritius in the legal battle for the sovereignty of the Chagos Islands.
Lord Justice Bean also served as the chairman of the Law Commission from 2015 to 2018.
A judge who ruled migrants can stay in an Essex hotel was the chairman of a prominent socialist think tank.
On Friday, Lord Justice Bean and two other Court of Appeal judges ruled that an injunction banning the Bell Hotel from housing asylum seekers should be overturned.
The ruling was a legal victory for the Home Office and has prevented the Government’s asylum policy from being plunged into chaos.
The son of High Court judge Sir George Bean, the Cambridge-educated Lord Justice Bean was chair of the 141-year-old Fabian Society from 1989-90.
The society works very closely with Labour, is an affiliated party organisation and its membership is predominantly made up of Labour members. Yvette Cooper, the Home Secretary, also previously served as chair of its commission.

Revealed: Epping hotel judge ran socialist think tank linked to Labour
The statement is actually making me angry.
So we elect MPs [not sure conservatives are a whole lot better about this situation] and they serve people other than the Uk.
What does that all mean?

Have you read the Government’s legal argument to overturn the verdict?
The OP has quoted correctly a part of it.
If there was not an incident involving a young girl and one of the migrants at The Bell Hotel, this wouldn’t have become an issue.
What was actually said?

Hardly a click bait headline if the OP is reporting what was said in open court, surely.
What were the actual words used in open court?
Does anybody have a link to the actual words used in the defence?
All I can find is what Conservative Chris Philp has claimed.
