“Migrants are more important than residents" A statement that the Labour party will live to regret?

I think so.
It was their appeal statement in Court. To overturn the previous decision about housing migrants in that hotel in Epping it was their salvo.

Well I think it’s just put a nail in their coffin.

What do you think?

Never fail do you FGT

It was inevitable it would be overturned. A complete stitch up by Keir and his mates in the judiciary. But the genie is out of the bottle and the residents fight on and I hope they win.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 29-Aug-25 17:04:44

I didn’t expect anything different either woodenspoon.

The Home Office and owners Somani Hotels Ltd appealed the decision.

At the Court of Appeal on Friday, Lord Justice Bean, Lady Justice Nicola Davies and Lord Justice Cobb ruled in their favour and ordered the interim-injunction to be overturned.

I believe Lord Justice Bean is involved in Matrix, isn’t that where Cherie Blair plied her trade? This has been reported online so it’s allegedly but still…..

Labour were voted in by UK citizens, they should always take precedence in their decision making.

I have a feeling that Epping will be flooded this weekend with both residents and bussed in agitators.

It was the Conservative party that started housing migrants in hotels. Labour have said they will stop doing so but it can’t happen overnight. Yet another click bait heading that gransnet are happy to allow.

Have you read the Government’s legal argument to overturn the verdict?

The OP has quoted correctly a part of it.

If there was not an incident involving a young girl and one of the migrants at The Bell Hotel, this wouldn’t have become an issue.

Hardly a click bait headline if the OP is reporting what was said in open court, surely.

growstuff Fri 29-Aug-25 17:15:59

Does anybody have a link to the actual words used in the defence?

All I can find is what Conservative Chris Philp has claimed.

What was actually said?

Casdon Fri 29-Aug-25 17:19:19

Speaking logically, there was no other option. There is no alternative accommodation immediately available. I do realise that logic is out of the window on threads like this of course though.

The statement is actually making me angry.

So we elect MPs [not sure conservatives are a whole lot better about this situation] and they serve people other than the Uk.

What does that all mean?

The Telegraph
Revealed: Epping hotel judge ran socialist think tank linked to Labour

woodenspoon Fri 29-Aug-25 17:23:27

A judge who ruled migrants can stay in an Essex hotel was the chairman of a prominent socialist think tank.

On Friday, Lord Justice Bean and two other Court of Appeal judges ruled that an injunction banning the Bell Hotel from housing asylum seekers should be overturned.

The ruling was a legal victory for the Home Office and has prevented the Government’s asylum policy from being plunged into chaos.

The son of High Court judge Sir George Bean, the Cambridge-educated Lord Justice Bean was chair of the 141-year-old Fabian Society from 1989-90.

The society works very closely with Labour, is an affiliated party organisation and its membership is predominantly made up of Labour members. Yvette Cooper, the Home Secretary, also previously served as chair of its commission.

woodenspoon Fri 29-Aug-25 17:24:38

The judge was a founding member of Matrix Chambers when it was set up in 2000. Lord Hermer, the Attorney General, also practised there.

Another Matrix alumnus is Phillipe Sands, the lawyer who represented Mauritius in the legal battle for the sovereignty of the Chagos Islands.

Lord Justice Bean also served as the chairman of the Law Commission from 2015 to 2018.

Yes. Can you?

The court did not use the words claimed.

Yet again, this is a twisted version of the truth.

woodenspoon Fri 29-Aug-25 17:25:34

The Telegraph spells it out loud and clear. Don’t take my word, read for yourselves.

Correct MayBee.

Why weren’t people protesting about asylum seekers in hotels 2 years ago - when the Tories were in power? Why are they suddenly so angry now🤔

Why weren’t Tory councils taking the government to court about asylum seekers in hotels 2 years ago - when the Tories were in power? Why now🤔

Why weren’t bus loads of right wing, flag draped protesters flying around the country 2 years ago - when the Tories were in power🤔

Strange isn’t it … when the number of hotels housing asylum seekers has almost halved under the Labour government - but we’re suddenly so angry now!

Why not 2 years ago???

fancythat Fri 29-Aug-25 17:26:55

And who exactly are English, Uk or British[I never get my head around that] MPs actually serving?
Who is the real boss?
Because it is not the voters/uk citizens.

As has been touted for a long while.

Time for me to look up conspiracy theories on this issue.

A government[and can prob include a conservative one in this too] who isnt working for the good of the Uk, is worse than useless.

Spinnaker Fri 29-Aug-25 17:29:48

Just another complete effing stitch up by Starmer and all his legal cronies - makes me sick. But hey, carry on paying taxpayer 😡😡
