“Migrants are more important than residents" A statement that the Labour party will live to regret?
(411 Posts)I think so.
It was their appeal statement in Court. To overturn the previous decision about housing migrants in that hotel in Epping it was their salvo.
Well I think it’s just put a nail in their coffin.
What do you think?
Leopards do not miaow. They belong to the Panthera genus, which lacks the specialized bone structure in their throats that allows smaller cats (like domestic cats) to meow and purr.

Miaow.

Well, it's not just lately, is it.
A leopard doesn't change its spots!

I know that was autocorrect, Maybee but that made me 😀Nothing remotely funny about racist attacks.
But hey, glad you're so cheery.
As you can see, I posted again about the content.
There was no need at all for that attack but it is to be expected, I suppose.
You can change the name, but not the style.

Previous post in reply to Plantglas.
I'm not sure I would call it "good" but yes, wrecking the lives of our neighbours in this way is international.

Has anyone seen the awful footage on Facebook of an Asian ( or Chinese) NHS worked being accosted in a park by a horrible foul mouthed racist telling her to ‘go home’. People like that have been given carte Blanchett by Reform to behave like that and it sickens me.
No, I haven't.
Nasty, and stupid.

How very true PoliticsNerd! And so good to see not just happening in Britain!

Societal fears, prejudices, or political motives have always led to both groups an individuals who decide to take the law into their own hands and either deal out punishment themselves or create an atmosphere were it can happen, without fair trials or evidence. Think of:
The Salem Witch Trials
The Spanish Inquisition
The European Witch Hunts
The McCarthy Era
The French Reign of Terror
The Red Scare

I don’t care what anybody says, I rate Yvette Cooper highly. She has already done more than any other Home Secretary in getting to grips with immigration, she isn’t a self publicist, but she is on it. She understands the brief, and bit by bit she is laying foundations. In my opinion she will be judged after her time as making a real and lasting difference.
I agree with you - and, at least, she doesn't wear green trouser suits.
Why on earth does what she wears matter?
She has a good brain and is putting it to use to implement policies the majority voted for.
The more I read GN, thd more I can see a lot of people upset and lashing out because their noses have been put out of joint.
The pink lady who was arrested at Sunday's protest has been charged.
NOT for unfurling a flag.
NOT for hurling abuse.
She has been charged with failing to comply with the conditions of participation of a procession - being in the wrong place.
Fair enough.
She is from Chigwell, (which is about 9 miles from Epping).

So it WAS true -
“ The current law has put the Government in a tough spot. When the Home Office filed a legal appeal to keep foreigners at Epping’s Bell Hotel, it was forced to argue the asylum seekers’ human rights trumped the rights of locals.
Technically a win for the Government, it could have hardly been worse for Starmer politically as it allowed his opponents to present him as being against the people.”

But but but ... if you read the judgment, the panel stated categorically that it didn't take that into account and dismissed it.
The appeal panel also stated that it wasn't its role to decide on the rights and wrongs of the issue. The role of an appeal court is to examine the legalities of a previous verdict. It concentrated on planning issues and decided that the council hadn't followed procedures. The most important outcome of the appeal verdict was that the expulsion of resident asylum seekers within such a short time-frame was not justified (and stated that the previous judge had no legal grounds for imposing the condition) because there is going to be a full hearing in a few weeks anyway.
This was a judgment on a temporary injunction, which has been weaponised by Farage and others.

It's just another mess left by the Tories that Labour has to clean up. Starmer must resolve it to pull the rug from under Farage if Labour are to do better in the polls. Following Farage down the nationalism rabbit is a foolish Tory policy. They need Starmer and Cooper to succeed on immigration if the Tories want their voters back from Reform. Badenoch should stop sniping and be constructive (if she has any ideas at all).
You're whistling in the wind if you think Badenoch will ever change - that's her "modus operandi". I actually feel a tad sympathetic for some backbench Conservative MPs because I think there are some decent ones, but they're keeping very quiet. Maybe they're hoping there will be a new leader soon and they don't want to be associated with this one.

Article 8 allows people to bring their partners and children to the country once they are granted refugee status. But the numbers have rocketed; just over 20,000 visas were granted in the year to June 2025, a 30 per cent rise on the previous 12 months.
Cooper also said she’s examining proposals for refugees to prove their financial stability before being allowed to bring over family members, and confirmed changes to the asylum process which will remove the power of judges to hear appeals, handing them instead to an expert panel.
