The graffiti is disgusting and unproven. It’s also dreadful to identify where her apartment is. Remember Jo cox and David Amess.
We are living in volatile times. Some of the news outlets are feeding unnecessary fires

Admits she didn’t pay enough tax. She cried this morning, on a SKY interview. Said she’d received poor legal advice, didn’t pay enough stamp duty on her new home in Hove and has referred herself to the Ethics Committee. Starmer still supports her.
Will she survive this debacle do we think?

Yes, it is, and, because I recognised the type of building, knew the general location.
But then, MPs are people too, often live in the constituency and people know where they live, their children are at the same schools as many constituents.
There would be nothing wrong with that if there weren't people around intent upon wrongdoing.

Some very judgemental people on here, before the case has even been properly examined.
She has actually supported her disabled son financially, while trying to keep her family circumstances private. Most of the press are hounding her as well, implying she must be 'guilty'. How unjust. There are "Some very judgemental people on here ..." but they are also incredibly sensitive to comments about their comments. Such people have always been around, sadly.
Rayner has admitted that she got it wrong and so far it looks deliberate so she has admitted guilt to get a lesser punishment.
It’s just too complicated to be accidental, that was the flaw
She's the deputy leader of the Labour party many think she will be the next leader. Possibly a future Prime Minister if Labour survive further terms of office. She is also housing minister. If she cannot make sure that all the facts are presented and double check the advice over what should be quite a simple matter for someone who holds high office and needs to understand and facilitate matters of state she is not suitable for that position. It's not only about honesty and integrity I'm
prepared to accept it wasn't a deliberate avoidance, but the issue of her competence to understand and undertake a fairly straightforward task is very serious.

Indeed Casdon.
I’d be upset if I lived in that development.
Very nasty thing to do.
I just had a quick look at the road where my Aunt lived and where I spent happy holidays. Hove seems to have been updated considerably since those days with blocks of new flats; it may be very popular but it seems to have lost its genteel shabbiness, which was part of its appeal. Ms Rayner's home is in one of the older, more charming (to my mind) properties.

I can't count the amount of Tories who have evaded tax or helped friends get dodgy PPE contracts, if she was really tax dodging I'm sure she'd have found a better way to do it than that.
The media are desperate for her to go because she's a strong working class woman and a potential role model for others.
Hunt didn't go when he 'forgot' he owned a block of flats, why should she?
I am not a fan of the woman but I do think if she has had bad advice in what would seem a complicated arrangement then she has done nothing wrong, and Starmer is right to stand by her. She at least referred herself to the Ethics Commitee.
The big question is can she prove she was given bad advice.

Greendress
Crocodile Tears . If the Deputy PM cannot get sound legal advice, God help us all if she eventually gets the top job.
My feelings entirely. I think she should go.
Haa she thought about complaining to the Law Society about her poor legal advice?

“Tax Evader Rayner” has been graffitied onto the Hove apartment development. A step too far in my opinion.
Let’s hold fire and wait for the outcome of the investigation by the Ethics Committee.
Or a statement from the firm that apparently gave ‘bad advice’.
It just says Tax Evader, I’ve seen a picture of the graffiti. I’d be freaked out if my house was identified and shown on the TV, or if I lived in another flat in that complex, because it becomes a nutcase magnet.
Trustees often have the discretion to invest any money, that does not mean they do it correctly, I’m sure it seemed a good idea at the time, that’s not how it turned out

I'm not a Labour nor an Angela Raynor supporter, but can understand why she decided to set up a trust to give her disabled son some security for his future. Apparently if she had waited until he was 18 she could have avoided all this controversy, but I'm guessing she was afraid what that Rachel person would do.
The money she used for her new home did come from the compensation they received (following damage at birth I presume) and he received the home in exchange for this.
The legalities of trusts are a nightmare and it does sound as though she did not get good advice.
Don't like the woman at all but imo there are more reasons than this that mean she should not be our deputy PM.
Isn’t it funny that no one ever OVER pays….? She should go.

That trust money which was purloined would perhaps have been better spent on courses and equipment for the 17 year old boy. I expect the trustees will dig deep to find out if the money was mis-used in giving him an extra 25% stake in his home
What do you know about the boy's life?
What a vile thing to write!
But she does have another home for the purposes of SDLT, an interest in the Ashton property while her son is under 18. That is the whole crux of the controversy. Her failure to know this and where the culpability lies.
I don't understand misuse? The house was valued at £650,000. Half was already in the trust. She still owned a quarter share. She sold that share to the trust giving her £162,500 which was put towards the purchase of the Hove apartment. I have lost track of Mark Rayner's share. If he still owns it, the trust stil has an asset worth £487,500 for the use of her son (and his brother).
We do not know how much the award was nor do we have a right to. Whoever the trustees are (which I assume includes the Rayners), they must have approved the transaction.
I find that a particularly wicked thing to say.

I did wonder about using trust money to buy a property in her own name, trusts are a minefield, mixing it up with property law makes it worse.
A complete mess of her own making of her own making, great qualifications for Deputy PM.

Dd she tell the original advsor she had another home. If she didn't then that would be fraud
She didn't own another home!
Yes, Law firms and accountancy practices have professional indemnity insurance.
