Interesting - I did not read it as a damning indictment, but as a genuine oversight in the face of a very complex legal situation relating to a trust fund. None of the letters published indicate that she was suspected to have deliberately misled the tax authorities and the general tone supports the fact that she is a woman of integrity.

This woman has been hounded out by the media - I find it sickening.

She broke the ministerial code. She did the right thing in resigning but I do wonder how mush pushing was involved. 🤔

Now that this 'fraud' has been resolved, please can they get on with sorting out all of those Covid PPE scams. The country must be owed millions in payback

She was advised, and recommended, to seek specific legal advice about her complex tax affairs, and she did not.

Not the fault of the company who did the conveyancing nor the company who arranged the Trust, both of whom advised her independently to seek further advice; she tried to blame them.
Therefore: "she cannot be considered to have met the highest standards of proper conduct as envisaged by the Code."
A fairly damning indictment.

I don't think she set out to deceive, she took bad advice.

I feel for her. I genuinely don't think that she set out to deceive. Although it is not possible to see into the soul of another, it would have been very foolish to do so as the media have bedevilled this government from the start, and she would have known that they wouldn't leave her in peace.

Whatever people think about her because of her hair, trouser suit, accent and other characteristics she is far from foolish.

I hope she does come back in 6 months or so.

Wonder who will replace her ? She really had to go after that debacle. I actually quite like her and I think she will still be a good MP, just not suitable as a deputy PM.

This opens the door for more disruption, hate and the likes of Farage to jump into the void.

She's resigned now.

Clearly she does own 2 homes! The forms you are required to fill in are easily understood. I know! All you have to do is be truthful and you are taken to the next relevant question!

After this fuss I’m sure she will take proper advice with property and Trust transactions.

It’s clear that a mistake was made and she has admitted liability, it was done quickly without a long drawn out denial. Because she is now paying the extra tax due the only penalty is likely just the interest due on late payment.

Any of us could make the error she made, I would not be surprised if she keeps her job.
