Reform supporting anti-vaxxers

I note that any Guardian article appears to be carefully avoided by GN members, well you certainly won't see this on the BBC...

I find this terrifying. We are fast slipping towards a Trump like country of divisive slanging matches and carelessly thrown out slogans about 'stopping the boats', ditching net zero, overriding sound laws and established regulations. Do you people really want to live in the right wing destruction that is now the US?

It's £££ he wants in my opinion, westendgirl
Not just approval.

Whatever your views on vaccines, I have concerns about this unqualified man ( diet books to infection " expert" is quite the stretch) being invited to address a political party.
I find it difficult to imagine any other party giving him such a platform.

A lot of what Reform does emulates the bandwagons of the Trump administration - DOGE, anti immigration, bitcoin, ‘patriotism’, free speech and now anti vaccines. Kennedy has done a U turn and is now endorsing the measles vaccine after cases in the USA reached a 33 year high with two deaths of unvaccinated children. Autism could be Reform’s next target.

Reform has already started on autism:

An additional reason for Reform politicising the issue could be their interest in discrediting other parties who support vaccination, & fertilising the growth of conspiracy theories which some Reform supporters seem to feed on. Just a suggestion! I’m not especially a ‘leftie’ by the way. But would Reform even exist without Farage, or without the immigration issue? They seem blatantly opportunistic.

You could be right. It certainly seems that words like "truth" and "fact" are irrelevant to Reform.

Farage is doing his very best to get approval from ~Trump. As said towards the beginning of this
thread Trump's chief medical officer was anti vaccinations.Jane 43 you have hit it on the head.. Sycophant Farage is copying .

Same here - update Covid and flu vaccines booked. Feel very fortunate, got a phone call from my surgery to arrange this,

I just booked our flu jabs and we will have COVID boosters soon after.

I've just booked my flu and COVID vaccination. I've never to my knowledge had COVID or flu and I certainly don't want either in my last 70's. I've had every vaccine that I've been offered and apart from a sore arm, pneumococcal vacc was the worst, I've been perfectly fine. I'm lucky to live in a country where I get the opportunity to get vaccinated.

Same here! I've just had the first of my two shingles jabs and I have Covid and flu jabs booked for the end of this month.

🌞. I hadn’t thought of that as the underlying reason growstuff.

It's the only reason I can think of.

I'm puzzled that vaccines and treating serious illnesses should be given a stage at a political conference. Presumably the idea is that the state shouldn't spend money on prevention or cure and that only the fittest will survive.

Iam64 Tue 09-Sept-25 07:35:03

I’m puzzled as to why our medical profession would encourage vaccinations when so many on medical folks absolutely ‘know’ that covid is no risk and that the vaccine definitely is

Because it could be years before the long term effects are fully known.

The Covid vaccine is based on flu vaccines that are well established, that’s why it was developed so quickly. A vaccine is a one-off, unlike medications which will be used on a regular basis.

I know people who died from Covid including my husband, all before the vaccine was available. Id rather have had all the ones I had than risk my life. However I think maybe it was pushed too much for the younger generations.

Im not an anti vacca, but I had no peace regarding the covid vaccine so I declined it and im so glad I did. Ive had covid twice and was fine .
My friend had the vaccine , got covid and was very ill . My 91 yr old mum got the booster and soon after was rushed to hospital as she had a reaction to it !!
Never will I have it and my late mum , when she was alive refused any more boosters after that !

Having COVID twice and being fine is just luck. Ive had it twice, once so mild I didn't know I had it and a second time when I was very ill and they wanted to admit me to hospital and I refused to go. I had long COVID for over two years.

My husband is frail and disabled. He got the vaccine very early and despite sharing a bed never caught it from me.

We've had all vaccine we've been offered and will continue to do so. If you've had severe COVID it seems the obvious thing to do.

My hair dresser and her pals are convinced the Covid Jab killed Shane Warne, the Australian cricketer. He had a heart attack at 52. They don’t give any credence to lifestyle issues.
She refused to be vaccinated and believes that protected her from ever getting Covid

They really do walk amongst us, don’t they🙈🙈🙈

Re your post concerning Malhotra and his father’s death. This is just one of so many ‘sudden deaths’ after vaccination and cannot be coincidence. Anyone refusing to question, is frankly, burying their head in the sand.
I personally know of 3 people who had heart attacks after the boosters. One was a superfit chap in his 50’s, had a second jab, despite his wife befging him not to and he had a major cardiac arrest - air ambulance called, flatlined, he had a stent fitted and they saved him. Two others were not so lucky.
You dont recall the footballers and others seen collapsing on TV at the height of the vaccine rollout?
There’s so much evidence- and didnt the incentive of donuts and burgers to take the shot, create some suspicion?

Why can't it be a coincidence?

Malhotra's father was of an age, ethnicity and body composition (ie overweight) to be a high risk for a heart attack.

There is no reason to link any vaccination to the heart attack.

I had a heart attack 8 years ago - it was random. I didn't have any particularly high risk factors. It just happened. It was before the pandemic, so of course I hadn't had any vaccinations, but if I had had one, the conspiracy theorists would no doubt have linked the two.

By the way, I've had about 8 Covid vaccinations (I've lost count). Apart from a slightly sore arm after a couple of them, I've had no side effects at all.

How very community-spirited and thoughtful of you all

Precisely!

Sadly sudden deaths from cardiac events are not that uncommon. My cousin died aged 17, he had shown no signs of illness, he felt unwell and was sent home from school, he died in his mother's arms shortly after getting home. That was in 1962 and was the result of a congenital defect which up to that date had not given him any symptoms. I also remember someone dying at Birmingham university when they inadvertently came into contact with the small pox virus that was kept there. Vaccines have resulted in a world free of small pox the last case having been in Somalia in 1977, it's a disease that has killed millions.
