Israel hits Qatar

Is this finally a step too far for Netanyahu, hitting, not what is perceived as an enemy state like Iran but a firm ally of the west, particularly the US. A mother of a hostage in Israel says that Netanyahu has now handed her son a death sentence by his aggression.
Should any first world nation have this kind of impunity?
And with Qatar threatening to respond how is Israel making the state of Israel safer by its actions?

Maremia Wed 10-Sept-25 12:09:55

David49, Qatar has been hosting the peace negotiations. You need both sides to participate. Hamas is one side Israel is the other. Hamas had to be there.
How would you arrange the negotiations?

ronib Wed 10-Sept-25 12:09:40

Okay Maremia … and a pause on the slander around Netanyahu would be appreciated too.

Maremia Wed 10-Sept-25 12:07:24

What to do next? Stop the genocide!

Maremia Wed 10-Sept-25 12:06:36

Could you please pause the slander that there are GNs in favour of Hamas.

Maremia Wed 10-Sept-25 12:04:48

Some of the hostage families, ronib, are despairing at this attack by Israel on Qatari soil. It has been through negotiations in Qatar, that there have been hostage releases.

AGAA4 Wed 10-Sept-25 12:03:45

Yes ronib Hamas has been proscribed as a terrorist organisation in many western countries but certainly not by all countries and Qatar is one.
I don't think someone having a word with them will change their minds.

Maremia Wed 10-Sept-25 12:02:29

Go over to the Gaza thread ronib, go back a few pages, and there you will find expression of horror, can't remember the exact words, might have been 'tragedy', about the murder of those people in Israel at that bus stop.

ronib Wed 10-Sept-25 11:53:08

LizzieDrip sorry please explain. Are you saying that Hamas is not a proscribed terrorist organization?

ronib Wed 10-Sept-25 11:51:20

Seems likely that the West is doing everything it can to stay out of a confrontation with Iran, Qatar, Yemen etc. It doesn’t want an escalation in this region. But it keeps decrying Israel. Can’t have it both ways?
For some reason, AGAA4 when Hamas took its hostages back in October 7, it fulfilled my idea of a terrorist organization. Freedom fighters? Surely that needs to be discussed with the Qatari government?

LizzieDrip I don’t have any opportunity for a face to face interaction with the families of the hostages. Neither do I have any introduction to Hamas - which incidentally is a proscribed terrorist organization in the UK. It’s beyond belief that there are so many voices in its favour on GNet.

OK ronib.

You believe whatever you want to believe.

ronib Wed 10-Sept-25 11:42:48

Yes clearly Netanyahu completely misread the intentions of Hamas. He made a monumental error and his country and Palestinians are now suffering. Wwm2 So what to do next?

AGAA4 Wed 10-Sept-25 11:41:41

ronib

Qatar has a history of supporting terrorists. It has given 1.8 billion to Hamas over the years.

Netanyahu has funded Hamas too. People in Qatar don't think of Hamas as terrorists. They think of them as freedom fighters.
It is the west that have proscribed Hamas as terrorists.

Which Netanyahu facilitated

Whitewavemark2 Wed 10-Sept-25 11:37:10

David49

Because Qatar has been hosting Hamas quite openly I’m surprised it hasn’t been a target before, should a state openly host a terrorist organization.? We know Iran supports many terrorists and there are all sorts of sanctions, the groups they support attack many other states.

Embarrassing for the US and if Israel had consulted them first they would have said “no” I’m sure, so they did it without and no doubt will continue to in the future, whatever the rest think will make no difference.

Peace talks.

There are plenty of other states in the world playing host to another countries deemed “terrorists”

Would you be happy for those countries to be bombed?

That argument falls at the first hurdle.

AGAA4 Wed 10-Sept-25 11:36:52

You are blaming the west now for prolonging the conflict?
The conflict is ongoing as Israel is determined to kill all Hamas and has invaded a sovereign country to do it.

Why would the west want conflict with Qatar and other middle east countries?

ronib Wed 10-Sept-25 11:33:39

Babs03 Wed 10-Sept-25 11:30:48

@David whether Hamas live in Qatar and are sympathised with by some of the people who live there is irrelevant, unless the Qatari government have attacked Israel, bombing Qatar is not supportable. And now Qatar have every right to consider that they are at war with Israel.
You know safety and security also matters to the Arab states surrounding Israel, so we can presume the Qatari people have the right to strike back with impunity.

ronib Wed 10-Sept-25 11:27:09

AGAA4 criticising the actions of Israel / why would any sane country harp from the sidelines? This is prolonging the suffering and the war. You are either in support of a country or not.
I firmly believe that the stance of the West is prolonging the conflict. Unless of course the West is too afraid to take on Iran, Yemen and Qatar leaving Israel to do its fighting?

Quote AGAA4 Wed 10-Sept-25 11:13:58
Israel has succeeded in making the country, the Israeli people and Jews everywhere less safe than ever before.

I agree with the parents of the hostages. There is little hope of them surviving now.

Israel failed to kill the Hamas leaders and as usual for them have killed innocent people in this attack.
Qatar l have said there will be consequences.

When have Jews ever been safe ? 1948 a Jewish State, 1948 5 countries declared war on Israel.

You believe Hamas are truthful when they say “Israel failed to kill Hamas leaders ?

You accept the threat from Qater ?

I don't know how many times it has to be said that nobody supports Hamas.
Criticising the actions of Israel does not automatically mean people support Hamas.

CariadAgain Wed 10-Sept-25 11:00:17

Ronib - The three Jewish women in our country that come to mind first are the three that lead the Israeli Embassy here.

The only plus point I can think of for the Israeli "government" is their three leading posts in their Embassy here are all filled by women - the Ambassador, the Deputy Ambassador and Minister Counsellor Political Affairs..................

.............

I bet all 3 of them are extremely busy right now..........

LizzieDrip Wed 10-Sept-25 10:52:59

ronib

Do go and talk to some Jewish people living in the UK as soon as possible. CariadAgain It will really open your eyes. Hopefully your mind too.

What about the views of the hostage families?

Don’t they count?
