Israel hits Qatar

From 2012, Qatar hosted the Hamas party leadership when Hamas head Khaled Mashal relocated from Syria to Qatar. The former head of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, had resided in Doha since 2016 until his death in 2024. Qatar has been called Hamas' most important financial backer and foreign ally.

Regardless of this Annie Israel cannot just attack sovereign states with impunity. Hamas will not stand up as a sufficient enough reason to bomb other countries like this. Especially countries that are firm allies of the west and the US.
And again I ask the question do you suppose that this sort of campaign makes the state of Israel safer in the region?

Violating another states sovereign territory whatever the reason is never done. To do so brings a world that I am sure none of us would like closer. World leaders must sanction israel swiftly and strongly.

Otherwise what next? India bombing Canada because of the Sikh separatists? China bombing Taiwan? Ignore Putins bombing Ukraine? The future of might is right would not be a world any of us would wish to live in I’m sure.

Not negotiating the attack with Qatari leaders is an act of aggression.

I do acknowledge that the line is blurred between how much support there is between Hamas and Qatar.

I was surprised that Mr Netanyahu felt that this was a sensible move. Mr Trump, his major ( only ?) ally, likes to cosy up to Qatar, and although he is unpredictable in his allegiances, he does have monetary interest in this part of the world, and may be moved to fall out with Mr Netanyahu.

Terrifying, the whole lot.

I'm quite surprised Israel did not assassinate the Hamas leadership living in luxury in Qatar years ago. It could have decapitated the terrorist leadership before October 7th.

The Middle East is a tinder box at the moment.

If Israel had intelligence where the Hamas leaders were and when, they should have gone down the diplomatic route and spoken with the Qatari government.

There could (should) have been negotiations to find a way to eliminate these odious individuals.

As it is Israel managed to kill innocent bystanders and zero Hamas.

This was my first thought on hearing the news.
Next was like Whitewave, how would the world, especially the Americans would have reacted if our government bombed an area where it was known or suspected IRA leaders were hiding

Of course we didn’t lob bombs at the IRA, we left the bombing to them.

Hamas cannot be compared to the IRA.

I do not condone this bombing, and haven’t posted as such.

I have posted that Israel should have consulted with Qatar, and a different solution agreed to eliminate the Hamas leaders who ordered the 7th October atrocities.

Qatar, alongside most of the Middle Eastern countries do not see Hamas as terrorists. It is only “allies” of Israel who have classified them as terrorists.

The Middle East see Hamas as freedom fighters.

For successful peace talks it is necessary to dial down the rhetoric.

Big mistake to convince Israelis and its allies that to get rid of Hamas gets rid of the issue.

It never will, until Israel stops its land grab and suppression, and negotiates peace talks in good faith, which it certainly hasn’t done to date.

The peace talks taking place in Doha were being conducted in bad faith on Israel’s part.

I don’t think Israel can wriggle out of this one, Netanyahu obviously thinks he can literally get away with anything right now and tbh he literally is getting away with a huge amount, so that attitude is understandable. But this is where he needs to be reined in before Arab allies become rattled. Certainly the whole premise of Netanyahu’s war which was to make Israel safer/more secure now has absolutely no logic, nor does his oft repeated statement that they need to get the hostages back hold any water.

I am probably the only person in the UK who thinks this but here goes. Were 6 Israelis killed at a bus stop (of all places) in Jerusalem? The biblical eye for an eye seems to be in full operation in Netanyahu’s retaliation. You hit me and I hit you.
In any event, Qatar is complicit in harbouring Hamas terrorists. I have to say that I am ashamed and astonished by the response by the West to the 6 Israelis killed at a bus stop in Jerusalem.
