KS's an embarrassment. He should never have appointed him in the first place and as soon as this news broke, should have sacked him immediately instead of standing by him yesterday.

Peter Mandelson - Epstein . Should Starmer sack him?
(188 Posts)In 2008, Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting sec from girls as yiung as 14. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison
Mandelson continued his friendship/business dealings with Epstein. The Telegraph reports when business secretary, Mandelson brokered a deal with Epstein after the conviction for child sex offences.
I heard PM today apologising, wishing he’d never met Epstein. He went on to apologise to the victims, he hadn’t noticed abuse of girls possibly because he’s gay and was there with his partner.
My view? How was he appointed? I knew about his links with Epstein which were always going to return to haunt him
I no longer think Starmer is just ""gullible", or "foolish".
Many comments now outdated as SKS has indeed bowed to the inevitable pressure and sacked Mandy.
Should he have been appointed? Well, Chump probably knows him well from all those Epstein parties, and was happy to have a sympathetic British voice licking his ear? [And if anyone really thinks that Chump could have resisted taking advantage of nubile, starstruck teenage girls, please seek suitable help?!].
For those with longer memories, can you recall just HOW MANY times Mandelson got suspended by Labour for assorted corruption and dodgy loans/property dealings?
I think it was 3 or 4 times, so anyone thinking the Tories took not just the biscuit but the whole tin for political corruption (with BoJo) should have a rethink [That is NOT a voice of support for Tories --- I have a healthy streak of cynicism/contempt for just about all national politicians, any party, based on decades of evidence!).
But Mandy was heavily involved with the Bliar/Campbell greasy pole operation to get into power and stay there as long as possible, I'm surprised they didn't set up a corporation to get EVERYONE really cheap loans and mortgages?!
There's a saying that we get the politicos that we deserve, in which case the UK population must have been very naughty for a very long time?
Yes ...
Of course he should go and now he has. Anyone who had any idea what Epstein was doing should have gone to the police, not stayed his friend. I guess Epstein would have been a formidable foe - but going to the police would have been brave and saved more young women form abuse.

It beggars belief that Starmer was not fully aware of Mandelson’s background. Make no mistake that both MI5/6 will have had the absolute fullest information possible on both Mandelson and Epstein and it would be incredible that they didn’t make the UK PM aware of it before he appointed Mandelson. To now hide behind the statement that, since only yesterday, "more information has become available" is laughable. Starmer thought he could cover it up but watching how it was all panning out he’s had to be seen to do something. He’s a disgrace of the highest order.
The Labour party is crumbling by the day.
Starmer stood by Angela Rayner and couldn’t say enough good things about her just like he did with Mandelson. He is indeed a disgrace.
Don’t let that “scared rabbit in the headlights look” fool you.😉
Crikey. Mandelson begging for an air ticket from a paedophile for a freebie holiday as he couldn't use his airmiles….what a piece of work our “Lord” is.
I think he had a crush on Epstein. 🤔
Babs03
Why is this piece of work a Lord??
Do they hand them out primarily to reprobates and scoundrels?
Presumably he can come back and take his seat in the House of Lords if he has the nerve.

According to Keir Starmer, due process was followed before Mandelson was appointed. I seem to recall I defended the appointment, despite concerns about Mandelson’s integrity. I could see his dubious, Machiavellian personality being useful with the Trump Whitehouse. I was wrong because I’d forgotten the extent of his relationship with Epstein.
Mi6 will have known the extent of friendship, the continued contacts despite Epstein pleading guilty to procuring sex from 14 year old girls. It must have been obvious this alone would inevitably be used at some stage. Such an easy way to humiliate Starmer, to undermine his commitment to protecting the safety of women and girls
Just looked at the other thread from when he was appointed and yes, he was described as Machiavellian on there.
I was going to say louche, meaning disreputable, shady, of questionable morality but that would be too kind.
I think most on that thread were questioning the wisdom of his appointment.
Gone! Not nicknamed “the prince of darkness” for nothing…
Sacked for his association with Trumps friend.
Well you are all wrong and he has been sacked by the PM
Will be interesting to see who is appointed in place of Mandelson
Where does honesty lie within our politicians? It must be very difficult for those MPs just getting on with the job to stomach the behaviour or , misbehaviour , of their fellow MPs etc!!
Ah GG13 I see. ✔️
For someone supposedly a top flight KC, Starmer is remarkably gullible.

His replacement, James Roscoe, seems to have an unblemished diplomatic record including close ties to the Royal family. Perfect fit. Why was he not ambassador in the first case? Starmer...that's why.
I think he is only the temporary Ambassador at the moment according to the BBC news.
He was already in Washington in some capacity at our Embassy.

Would he only stop sitting in the House of Lords if he’d committed a crime? As yet, there’s no saying that he has. Just shown poor judgement.
Done!
Should never have been given any post in the first place

I feel he should now lose his title I don’t want him being paid to sit in judgment about anything after he’s shown his true colours
Do name others in the Lords who you think should lose their title
It seems right he's been sacked he clearly had poor judgement being a friend of Epstein .I don't understand why he's still being called Lord Do lords stay a lord whatever Surely he won't be continuing to be in the house of lords will he ?

Now he can retire into the company of all his other dodgy friends and spend more time with his family!
But what a flagrant example of Keir Stamer's cloth-eared incompetence that he was even considered for the post let alone given it.. Or perhaps Mandelson had something on Starmer, so that he had to make the offer.
Who are all his other dodgy friends ?
Mandelson has twice had to resign from government because of scandals affecting him personally. Now he has to resign from this job - because of a diodgy friends. Throughout the years there have been stories of mandelson having ddgy friends and accepting income in a way that is - just -, dort of the right side of legality.
This article was written 16 years ago after the Deripaska incodent that also involved Georg Osborne. There have been more similar occasions since. www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2008/oct/26/party-funding-peter-mandelson-conservatives
Yes oh yes nasty slimey man!
We now know what he said to Epstein, we do not know what Epstein said to him , rather like listening at the keyhole and hearing one side of a conversation
