Oreo I don't like apologists for misogynistic, anti gay, white supremacists. I have daughters, one of whom is gay and we have many gay friends. i don't intend to pretend people like Kirk just had opinions. They wish harm on me and mine, and I respond like a mother.

My kids are mixed race, I was looking at photos of them on holiday yesterday and said to DH I worry for one GC as he is darker than the others and I worry about him being targeted. DH said it's like going back to his life in the 50s. So I agree with you, for us it is personal.

I’ve had 2 terminations over the years ( very early ) Charlie Kirk would say I’m a murderer and should rot in hell. ( although to be fair he’s not the only one with those views )
I’m a strong believer in free speech, and unless you’re inciting violence you should be able to say what you like.
So someone like me, ( plus homosexuals and any other people he can’t stand ) just have to put up with it.

It wouldn't just have been putting up with a differing opinion. Terminations would be banned and you would end up with a conviction (possibly prison) if you had one. It's not my business to pry into your personal life, but I expect having to bring up a child you didn't really want would have changed your life.

There is a movement in the US to keep women in their place ie in the home, looking after children and submitting to their husband. It's not just an opinion. Laws are being changed, so that abortions are banned and it's more difficult for women to live independently, etc. It's turning the clock back at least 50 years and undoing what at least two generations of feminists have achieved.

I hadn’t seen a single post saying anything idolising or holding Kirk in high regard and I have read TFT.
Most posters just don’t like the idea of being shot dead for the opinions you hold.

Charlie Kirk's views reminded me of the views held by many in the UK in the 1950s.
Women should stay at home and look after their man and children whether they wanted to or not. I know how frustrated my mum was by this thinking.
Black people were not to be allowed in my neighbourhood.
Homosexuals called queers were attacked regularly. A friend of my mum's son was beaten to death for being gay.
Having an abortion was deemed a huge disgrace.
I'm glad here in the UK many of us have moved on from these views.
It seems that in the US some are still embracing those views.

While that sounds incredibly rude, apparently it means to be one's authentic self, to be true to one's beliefs.

Which is, in fact the whole premise of all this, whether other people like it or not, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

It doesn't mean one person is wrong because another person is right. It means opinions may vary.

I explained my thinking in my post to Galaxy, trying to search for understanding of others’ views, rather than this permanent antagonism.

I hadn’t heard of him either, but haven’t seen any posts on here idolising him or even almost idolising him.
What I have seen on here by posters is very much disliking the idea that someone can be shot dead for airing opinions.

No Kandinsky Charlie Kirk wasn’t into assigning places in heaven or hell. My take is that he felt a need to redress the balance away from the rights of the mother to include rights for the foetus. He thought that an embryo was a baby.

There is apparently a school shooting every day in the States.
