Charlie Kirk shot

Isn’t it ironic that someone who made statements that some gun deaths are inevitable and justifiable to protect 2nd Amendment rights. - was shot by someone whose “rights” he was protecting.
Before anyone jumps on me - of course no one should be murdered for their views.

I’m quitting this thread - can’t cope!

Average people in the UK are very sorry that so many people are dying because of an easy access to guns. And as an average person, I worry that you don’t seem to have a working mental health system?
The idea that the leader of a major country would enjoy violence is an alien concept.
iamaround

they never try to address gun access or mental health issues though do they? Well the Republicans don't anyay.

There’s something wrong with the way mental health treatment is accessed I would suggest. iamaround

While I don't disagree with your assessment, I don't think it is fair to blame the mental health system for someone who (may have) never saught treatment.

I will also say that I can't imagine anyone MAGA valuating mental health treatment. They barely believe in vaccines.

All that to say, I doubt his parents cared about his mental health.

You are absolutely correct. It's flack, a smokescreen because once again i's their own feral supporters doing the bad stuff.

University should expand their minds not close them off

100% agree Oreo!

So why did Charlie Kirk set up ‘Professor Watch’, encouraging students to ‘report’ tutors who put forward views that disagreed with his?

Why didn’t he want university tutors to discuss opposing views with students?

Sounds, to me, like an attempt to close off minds rather than expand them.

Free speech???

My words still stand no matter what Charlie Kirk had to say.
There’s been a lot of unsettling cases here and in the US where students are being treated as children in universities by the no platforming of speakers.God forbid they may have to listen to different opinions to their own, and be offended.

Would you have said the same in 1930s Germany about Hitler? Don't bother answering, it's your side so right or wrong eh?

imaround Fri 12-Sept-25 19:29:24

Calm down Oreo. It was an auto correct on my phone. In case I have been unclear, by the way, my bias is:

Anti-Trump
anti-Nick Fuentes
anti-MAGA
Anti-killings of innocent people
Anti-hating people who are different

You don't need to try and "own" me by secretly spilling my "bias" when I have been perfectly clear of my opinions from the beginning.

A minor can not get medical treatment without parent approval. Especially in more conservative states. He was an adult finally, but he did not seem to feel the need to get it himself.

Rubbish

Possible.

Casdon Fri 12-Sept-25 19:23:47

Why is mental health the responsibility of parents? Don’t medics have a responsibility?

Unless mental health care in the USA is free, would a student not rely on their parents to pay for any support they need? Genuine question, I don’t know how it works there.

DaisyAnneReturns Fri 12-Sept-25 19:23:38

There is a rather wider picture of Charlie Kirk and his backing of Trump, work on the last campaign, friendships with Donald Junior and Vance and his being seen as a possible future president here:-

www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzTj-JDSbDk about 40 secs in.

It's a podcast from The New Statesman: "Trump will use this".

I typed it up but lost it and don't have time to do it again.

Sorry are you saying Trump killed Charlie kirk. I just need to get this clear.

Yes, essentially he laid the groundwork for all of this.

You have absolutely no idea if that is true about his parents or not.

You are correct. I am basing my opinion on my collective experience of what MAGA themselves say in regards to mental health. It is a possibility that they didn't even know he I was being radicalized online. They could have been seeking treatment, though I feel like they would have not been as surprised he was involved in this case
Most parents of these types of killers report after the fact that they had no idea what was happening.
Family had reported that he had become increasingly more political in the last few months, so they did notice a change in him I suppose.
I was asked for my opinion on the shooters mental health, I gave it.

And yes, there is a very effective mental health treatment network in the US. In fact, the law says mental health has to be covered by insurance the same as physical health.

WithNobsOnIt Fri 12-Sept-25 19:21:14

Hmm.

Who really shot him? Will we ever really truly know?

Conspiracy theory or an inside job?
Another JFK?

How ironic that an actual assassin would accuse his victim of ‘spreading hate’. 🤷‍♀️

But he was spreading hate. Being a victim doesn't mean he was a saint. It merely means he got what he preached. I can't be sad.

Just Senseless. Why do it? Absolutely ruined two families.

A tad febrile don't you think?

Valuating? You’re allowing your own prejudices to take over by your statement about the young man’s parents.

Roni , well his parents were hard core MAGA it appears. MAGA colectively has celebrated violence in any form since DT came on the scene. Since his family posts of him earning what appears to be Marksmanship certificates, I would like to think this starts at home.

When people celebrate violence against people they don't like (in Trump's case that is anyone not white, male and Christian), violence is what ends up happening.

Everything needs to be toned down, but Trump himself blamed liberals yesterday before we had even had Information about the shooter and it led to various college campuses put on lockdown yesterday due to threats. It also led to an innocent man being shot at the Naval Academy yesterday due to heightened nerves and fear, which led to misinformation of an active shooter.

MAGA was creating liberal hit lists on Social Media yesterday.

Trump enjoys the violence because it will lead to Martial Law and he can suspend our rights.
