Charlie Kirk shot

Isn’t it ironic that someone who made statements that some gun deaths are inevitable and justifiable to protect 2nd Amendment rights. - was shot by someone whose “rights” he was protecting.
Before anyone jumps on me - of course no one should be murdered for their views.

Galaxy Fri 12-Sept-25 18:52:06

I don't think that indicates he was a fascist ( whatever that means these days) I would have thought it indicated he thought kirk was a fascist.

Basically there seem to be a lot of very ill young people?

ronib Fri 12-Sept-25 18:49:40

Not what about ism … a very serious question on how ill young people are treated in the USA. I don’t look for liberal scapegoats - not my thing!!

Ok. First, we have the mental illness in the US too, so of course I have heard of it. What a strange question.

I believe that anyone who follows Nick Fuentes is mentally ill, so I am not sure your post had the impact you thought it would, which I suspect is whataboutism to deflect that this person is not the liberal scapegoat you were hoping for.

In my opinion, of course.

The bullets said catch this fascist and had other anti fascist slogans on them.

Presumably there are the same tensions on the far right as there are elsewhere on the political spectrum though, so he wouldn’t have to support fascism necessarily? I’m not saying that’s what happened by the way, but there are still many potential options.

"Each man's death diminishes me". You can deplore his shooting but disagree with his views. The man was a racist and a homophobe, as well as an apologist for 'The right to bear arms.' I disagree with practically everything he believed in.

I agree. His views were abhorrent. Racist, misogynist, homophobic and unapologetically pro guns. At the same time, I don't think anyone should be murdered for their opinions. However - in this case I'm not even sure that was the entire motive. I'd guess the lad who (allegedly) did it seems to have been all out for the fame of it.

I agree.

Kirk's views were abhorrent but did they constitute a hate crime in the USA?
I doubt it under the present administration.

The fact that he was in favour of the right to bear arms is what is so ironic.

Now the right, of which he was a champion, are baying for the blood of the alleged perpetrator, ie the death penalty.

What an uncivilised country it is. So sad.

ronib Fri 12-Sept-25 18:39:59

iamaround seems to me a very real possibility that the assassin needed mental health support and treatment. As I assume you live in America?, it seems a good question to ask you.

Have you not heard of psychosis, paranoid schizophrenia or the other mental illnesses that exist in the UK? iamaround. Treatable mental health conditions.

I am sorry, what does that have to do with my post?

imaround Fri 12-Sept-25 18:36:14

Just a reminder that Nick Fuentes had his Groypers "go to war" with Kirk back in 2019.

The informed bullet casings had engravings referring to video games. As a reminder, it has been found that young men are being radicalized through video game messaging.

Goodness imaround, if that turns out to be the case there are going to be some red faces on Gransnet.

Information on the shooter is being found online and posted.

This Halloween costume is being referred to as meme from a video game. The meme has something to do with Groypers. If that is true, the shooter was a Nick Fuentes follower.

Apparently Nick Fuentes was not happy with Charlie Kirk and considered him a gatekeeper. They believe Kirk wasn't fascist enough, in plain speak.

He definitely doesn't seem to be the left wing lunatic that people in this thread accused him of being. Of course, they rarely ever are despite what Trump wants you to believe.

How ironic that an actual assassin would accuse his victim of ‘spreading hate’. 🤷‍♀️

Exactly FGT.

A 16 year old just shot two pupils in Denver and then shot himself dead.

Magenta8 Fri 12-Sept-25 17:51:42

There is no getting away from the fact that Charlie Kirk was clearly a deeply unpleasant individual.

Tyler Robinson could face the death penalty as Utah is one of the states that re-introduced it in 1976. Usually state sanctioned murder in Utah is carried out by lethal injection but a firing squad has been used on occasion.

A truly terrible time ahead for the Kirk and the Richardson families.

I really dread what is going to happen next.

Can news from the USA get any more depressing?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 12-Sept-25 17:48:50

Just Senseless. Why do it? Absolutely ruined two families.

LizzieDrip Fri 12-Sept-25 17:46:55

University should expand their minds not close them off

100% agree Oreo!

So why did Charlie Kirk set up ‘Professor Watch’, encouraging students to ‘report’ tutors who put forward views that disagreed with his?

Why didn’t he want university tutors to discuss opposing views with students?

Sounds, to me, like an attempt to close off minds rather than expand them.

Free speech???

Galaxy Fri 12-Sept-25 17:46:41

Sorry are you saying Trump killed Charlie kirk. I just need to get this clear.

Hithere Fri 12-Sept-25 17:39:29

Trump's

daughterofbonniebelle Fri 12-Sept-25 17:37:17

Just to be clear, I am of a pacifist persuasion.
To quote Charlie Kirk:
‘Submit to your husband, Taylor. You’re not in charge.’ (Re: Taylor Swift’s engagement)
‘If I’m dealing with somebody in customer service who’s a moronic black woman, I wonder is she there because of her excellence, or because of affirmative action.’
‘The answer is yes, the baby would be delivered.’ (On being asked if his daughter were raped, would he support her aborting the pregnancy?)
He said children should watch people being killed using the death penalty and that executions should be public. ‘Death penalties should be public, should be quick, it should be televised.’

ronib Fri 12-Sept-25 17:37:11

Did you mean the assassin?

ronib Fri 12-Sept-25 17:36:43

No
