Well I’m a Starmer supporter, but he is beset by problems at home and internationally. Some of his own making such as the Winter Fuel Allowance debacle. He seems to be dealing well with Trump, but that is always a volatile situation.

I’m not sure anyone else would do any better.

The Tories had five prime ministers in fourteen years, and the turnover increased with time. But this is only Starmer’s second year in office and he has a huge four hundred seat majority.

The Reform Party is undoubtedly a major threat in electoral terms. Other threads here point out that migration looms large in the media, but perhaps there are more important issues for most of us.

You do not need to have ideas about who could be a replacement before you say someone should be sacked. If the current leader is clearly failing and doing this in a way that is detrimental to the electors, then he should go. Think abut a replacement when he has gone.

I question his judgement. Anyone who gives those idiots David Lammy and Ed Silliband top jobs has to be mad as box of frogs.

So who do you want to lead the country?

It’s a real conundrum isn’t it? The lack of talent on the front bench is jaw dropping.
So Starmer will have to plod on.

I watched the emergency debate on Mandelson this afternoon, despite a three week recess this isn’t going away and Starmer has a lot of questions to answer, I hope he is honest.

I have every faith in him being honest.

He is trying to fix the huge hidden hole in the budget. He is trying undo 13 years of damage. It is going to take a long while.
He is getting bitching all around from those who should not better.
He is also trying to fix a lot of patchy uneconomic processes and claiming back a lot of expensive outsourcing. Note he has rationalised the health dept, he is removing 2 tier councils, reclaimed the DWP to remove duplication, and trying to fix our underinvestment in bus, water and rail services.
Not bad for a start.

Sadly, AR did not go before authorising destruction of the Green Belt. I remember Emily Thornberry (mentioned elsewhere) giving a fulsome assurance before the GE that Labour were not going to concrete over the Green Belt....

RSALLAN2002 Mon 15-Sept-25 21:47:30

I think AR did deliberately do something wrong. Everyone says she's very clever so she must have known. Although maybe she's not as clever as she thought.

Which appointments?
Most of them.
The dreadful Rayner has gone.
Unelected Lord Hermer needs to go
Mandelson has gone but needs to leave the Lords

Angela Rayner was voted by party members for position of Deputy PM,

This is a list of resignations from the second government formed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Between forming a government on 13 December 2019 after the 2019 general election and his eventual resignation amid a government crisis, Johnson faced the resignation of 10 cabinet ministers (one of whom resigned on two separate occasions) and 3 ministers 'attending cabinet'. This list omits ministers who were invited to leave the government during the 2020, 2021, or 2022 cabinet reshuffles. It also excludes all ministers who resigned during the previous government formed by Johnson.

MayBee70 you cannot blame the press for Lord Mandelson.

True. But the press pick up on everything that can to discredit Starmer. Remember donkey gate?

Oh come on, Boris had it 10 times worse than KS.

Because he was a total con man and a liar.

Just saying.

Catching up after a day where the destruction of our nhs has been writ large for my grandchild. I’m so cross I might start a thread - meanwhile :-

MayBee70, 👍🏻👏👏👏👏👏👏 and thank you for keeling going, for remaining calm and reminding us of the positives our Labour government has achieved so far

Thanks MaizieD for reminding us if the benefits of the Blair/Brown years, I’ve posted before my appreciation of yiur economics knowledge.

I’m waiting to see Keir Starmer’s interview responses to questions about Mandelson, I haven’t yet decided he has to go.

Seem to remember the Conservatives government reappointing several ministers that had had to resign. Wasn’t Priti Patel one of them. And Braverman? It was like a game of musical chairs at one time. But people have short memories.

Yes, the joke doing the rounds at that time
“Swing doors been fitted to number 10

MayBee70 Mon 15-Sept-25 18:05:35

How many people involved with Reform ( aka the next government) have had to resign over the past year or so?

It is Keir Starmer and his predilection for unsuitable appointments that are under discussion.

Which appointments ?

Rachel Reeves will go once she has tried really hard with the budget but failed, then he can give it to one of his chums.

I don’t care what political party is in power, I just want the next PM to be completely honest, and realise, the county cannot keep living beyond its means! The more the rich are taxed the more of them leave the uk! I would like them to follow Australia’s rules on immigration. The uk are giving millions of aid money away to other ‘poor’ countries, this needs to be looked into! I have retired this year aged 66, I feel sorry for people who have to wait until 67.68 and god forbid, 70 to get their state pension.

Overseas aid has been reduced. Also some of it is used towards migrants that arrive here. Overseas aid is also a very clever way of gaining soft power over countries. China uses it a lot.

I know personally three high earners who have left the U.K. for Dubai, since Labour have come to power.

Such patriots!

They are putting themselves and their families first, I cannot blame them for that.

Dubai wouldn’t be my choice.

And talking of Dubai, doesn't that Patriot Richard Tice live there part of the time?

I don't think we have stats to prove that the more you tax the rich, and I mean the super rich, the more of them leave the UK. People keep putting that forward as a reason to not so do.
Any of you have the stats?
Agree with you about the rise of pension ages.
