Security will have to be sky high and protests are predicted as one the most unpopular world leaders comes to visit the royal family.

And do you think the Trump baby balloon was a good idea??

@sundowngirl
Why on earth is Sadiq Khan an odious little man??
Most Londoners seem happy with him.

I don’t know anyone who are happy with him and thinks he is doing a good job.
He never answers questions and is hated for ULEZ which he put in place despite evidence that it would make very little difference to the air quality in outer London.
The ridiculous expansion cycle lanes contributing to increased congestion in places like Park Lane, bridges and other central routed
Knife crime is on the increase in the capital
I could go on

Maremia Tue 16-Sept-25 15:55:09

Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, is the first person to have been voted three times into this position. He must be doing something correct.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 16-Sept-25 15:54:31

Whether or not we (us/UK/Joe Bloggs etc.,) like him is totally irrelevant.

Donald Trump is the elected POTUS, he is here in that capacity for a State Visit.

Large pictures on fields, Sadiq Kahn’s childish balloon or any other prank reflects badly on the U.K. it is far better to rise above than sink below.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 16-Sept-25 15:35:54

Yes best ignored. He has nothing intelligent to say and is a dangerous individual who will bring nothing but grief.

Yes. I’d like to know, too. Please.

The government and the royal family are playing the long game to safeguard our interests trade and defence wise. Short term cost for long term gain. They have no choice.

It is sickening - he is a ghastly human being - but that is what diplomacy at a national level is about. People swallow their nausea and get on with it for the sake of the country. I am just glad it is not me having to do this.

He's best ignored I think.

Spot on.

I doubt anyone wants to swan around "keeping enemies close" however it seems the King wants to appease him, so he will.

I've a slim, short husband - quite little. Really, I don't believe this is the "little" referenced when people speak of POTUS as little.

Apparently there is the 'biggest photo in the world' of Trump and Epstein, funded by donations from all over Britain, being unfurled across a field near Windsor. It is being shown on Facebook pages in the USA.

Ridiculous!!! Aren't we better than that?? Regardless of whether we like the man or not he is the President of the Inited States and has been invited to this country.

I think 'little' was originally a reference to Sadiq Khan (5'5") on this thread. It can also be used to describe someone of limited intelligence as in 'a bear of very little brain' or some such.

As a person of short stature (5'2" and shrinking) I have no problem with being called little.

I agree Oreo. As I mentioned further up the thread QEII had to put up with visits from some very dubious characters in the name of diplomacy including Trump.

Thank you Magenta8. I posted that Sadiq Khan was an odious little man - he is little (shorter than average) and extremely odious. So a perfect description of him

Stoneofdestiny took this phrase and used it for President Trump which obviously does not apply to him being over 6ft.

ronib Tue 16-Sept-25 14:13:08

Chocolatelovinggran I don’t think the threat comes from a British person but it’s perfectly possible to board a plane to take aim over here. I guess it might be a challenge getting weapons through Heathrow?

With all due respect FGT2 I think it is you who is missing the point.

International diplomacy works in such a way that the presidents of various countries are invited to make state visits and to meet the royals.

Over the years representatives of countries with disgusting regimes have been received and it is not an indication of approval or disapproval by government or royalty when these people are invited to pay a visit.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 16-Sept-25 13:50:52

ronib, we do not customarily shoot our visitors.
Why would you think Mr Trump would be at risk of being shot in Britain?
I think that, from what we have heard of him, he prefers attention rather than empty streets.

Casdon Tue 16-Sept-25 13:49:20

Camilla has pulled out of the Duchess of Kent’s funeral this afternoon as she is unwell.

My concern about the visit is a hope that Trump’s health will hold up, it would not be good if he had further issues whilst he is in the UK, and there are lots of reports about him having had an episode last week.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 16-Sept-25 13:43:06

think we are missing the point and getting caught up in the people involved.

This is not the Charles and Donald show.

This is Britain showing the world that it honours the USA and the USA showing they are honoured.

Babs03 Tue 16-Sept-25 13:33:34

I imagine the King has got the measure of Trump, he will do as his mother did and just be civil.
Perhaps he will feign fatigue due to his recent cancer treatment and nip off early to sit and watch the telly with his feet up.
Of course Camilla can cope, a game girl, all she needs is a high heeled shoe apparently.

friendlygingercat Tue 16-Sept-25 13:26:46

Agree with foxie, Grandmabatty and Old Frill.

Trump is so wrapped up in himself I doubt he will even notice any protests.

The royal family dont get a say in who comes and who does not. They have to do what the government tells them.

May I I just ask - why is little considered to vote an appropriate adjective when one wants to insult someone?

I remember Angela Rayner calling Rishi Sunak a pint-sized loser. He is 5' 7" so slightly less than average for a man but what makes an average? Sadiq Khan is less than average but so what?

Using it as an insult for Trump is just ridiculous.

For the many smaller than average people, it is insulting.

Using the word little is a put down but not very apt for a tall man like Trump 😄
It’s all diplomatic isn’t it, he gets something out of it and we get something out of it. Think of the people the late Queen had to glad hand in the past.

ronib Tue 16-Sept-25 12:30:30

Mike Pompeo ex CIA director isn’t sparing our blushes over the Chagos deal and the building of a new super sized state of the art Chinese embassy here.
