Security will have to be sky high and protests are predicted as one the most unpopular world leaders comes to visit the royal family.

The protesters have been a great hit over in the USA

🤔

I definitely watched a different programme to some posters

I just loved how Donald Trump came out to greet Starmer at Chequers. Such aplomb!!

LizzieDrip Thu 18-Sept-25 17:54:27

There are some folk who will never see a scintilla of good in anything Keir Starmer does.

Hey ho - up to them🤷‍♀️

Whitewavemark2 Thu 18-Sept-25 17:48:49

My goodness how differently the same thing is seen.

The report on sky and bbc was what I echoed.

Starmer definitely took charge, and swerving potential flash points was successfully managed.

The free speech question was answered absolutely straight forwardly. Not at all clear what you thought he should have said?

I thought Starmer performed well, was definitely in charge and steered the press conference away from potentially difficult questions.

Well that’s not big (or clever) to swerve the difficult questions surely? Many viewers would’ve like the answers to one or two of them

He doesn’t do ‘Q&A’ off the cuff very well does he? He seemed hesitant and awkward I thought. Especially when he waffled about ‘free speech’!

So who do you think would have done better? ie who would you want to be PM at this moment in time?

Trump wanted a Royal welcome and he got it in generous amounts, he likes the UK and we have got a better deal than most other countries a very successful visit. If all the 150 billion investments come to fruition it should be a big boost to the UK economy.
The loony protesters made no impression at all

Maremia Thu 18-Sept-25 17:12:11

Just popped up on Facebook. Trump waffling on about trillions of dollars, Biden. Starmer was trying so hard to keep his face straight.

Agreed WW.

I bet Mr & Mrs Starmer are breathing a HUGE sigh of relief!

A medal for the person in charge of the guest list for last night's banquet.

I used to find it bad enough with birthday parties grin

Just been listening to the comments about the trip overall.

The Americans seem absolutely delighted with it, and it seems that the relationship has been strengthened.

The U.K. has negotiated a 150bn investment which is huge.

NATO seems to be strengthened.

Gaza and Ukraine hadn’t moved much if at all.

I thought the Duchess of Gloucester was the only one looking elegant in a tiara.
The others were beautiful but the PoW ‘s hair is too long , messy in the case of the Queen and Princess Anne’s seemed lost.

Casdon

From what I saw, Camilla is wearing the Belgian sapphire tiara, and The Princess is wearing Queen Mary’s lovers knot tiara, which is her favourite. I’m a tiara spotter, I’m on the look out for them wearing different ones, but sadly not this time.

Do you know this weighty tome on tiaras, Casdon?

A charity shop find for a tenner, it's glorious!
Lots of glossy pics, details and history.

Thanks ixion, I hadn’t, but that does look right up my street, I’m off to have a look on Amazon now. I’m glad it’s not just me who loves a beautiful tiara.

It will surface on Facebook shortly after, methinks.

I’m banned from Facebook. I need info on here!

Looks like we are the only ones.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 18-Sept-25 14:53:18

I’m exactly the same. I find it too difficult.

Anyone else watching?

Oh it is 2.30 😬😬😬.

Not sure I can watch what might be a cringeworthy/toe curling occasion

I’m not watching it. I can’t cope with embarrassing situations even when it’s somebody like Trump.

Why haven’t they broadcast the press questions?

Grantanow Thu 18-Sept-25 13:44:07

At today's retail prices the Corton-Charlemagne Burgundy served at the State dinner would cost between £1300 and £2100 a bottle. I hope they got it cheaper than that.

There weren’t any gaps. As I said, the stand in ambassador, James Roscoe, was there.

Hope he enjoyed his dinner. Poor guy, talk about accepting the poison chalice.

( I thought the menu was surprisingly simple).
