Security will have to be sky high and protests are predicted as one the most unpopular world leaders comes to visit the royal family.

The rf are used to entertaining people because it is part of their role, doesn’t mean they like them. I don’t expect the late queen was happy about entertaining Mugabi.

Have just watched the ITV 10 o'clock news and enjoyed how they took the p... out of the whole event. Brilliant! I wonder if Trump knew that Rupert Murdoch was down at the end of the very long table?

Channel 4 was even better at that, tongue in cheek, and it's got a running set of programmes tonight - get them them on catch up if you can.

Well done King Charles on expressing support for Ukraine at the State dinner.
Not usually a fan of his but hopefully it will remind President Trump that Russia is the agressor!

We have to look at the bigger picture and put personal feelings aside.

Harry is lucky to be out of it, having to kow tow to a sex abusing, fraudulent, bigoted felon isn't an honour it's an embarrassment and a public humiliation.

On the contrary. It’s an example of how to put one’s personal feelings aside for duty and service.

I see you already said that, merlotgran!

^Great pomp and circumstance that we do so well here today^

Agreed!

If there’s one thing we Brits are good at, it’s the pomp and circumstance.

I’m not a fan of Trump, and I would prefer him not to be visiting my country. However, I totally understand why this visit is happening.

Similarly, I’m not a royalist but ‘hats off’ to the Royals for doing their job for the country with great aplomb.

This is what patriotism looks like!

This is it exactly.

These international relations with our allies are more important than any one person and anyone's personal feelings.

I love Melania's dress, though don't care for the color of the belt. I agree, she always looks impeccable.

I really like that Camilla wears Royal Blue so much. It really does suit her.

The dark red color that Catherine wears often is a good color for her as well, though I have yet to see a color she looks bad in frankly. She seems to be one of the lucky few who can wear practically any color and look amazing.

I’m with you uttb. When I’m drinking (not recently) a Porn Star martini was always my cocktail of choice.

I’ve always had champagne tastes and lager money.
You can take the girl out of Old Trafford etc …

Usedtobeblonde Wed 17-Sept-25 21:31:35

I should love to be there just for the cocktail.
I love a cocktail with nibbles/canapés.
I am a girl from “social housing” who is probably too big for her boots but oh I love a cocktail because now I know what they are, I love the taste and I can afford them.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 17-Sept-25 21:26:33

I thought you’d appreciate it foxie! I do like to play fair.

Also, Trump reiterates that it was the BRITISH that ended slavery.

“The Liberty Bell” by Sousa which ann article says was played at the banquet, is the Monty Python theme song."

I love that, it is the icing on the cake and will be totally missed by the Americans.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 17-Sept-25 21:01:03

Fun fact:

“The Liberty Bell” by Sousa which ann article says was played at the banquet, is the Monty Python theme song. 😂

Flowers:

Handpicked seasonal flowers arranged in silver-gilt centrepieces were sourced from the gardens at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and The Savill Garden in Windsor Great Park.

Flowers that cannot be reused after the banquet were donated to Floral Angels, a charity based at the New Covent Garden Flower Market of which the Queen is a patron.

These flowers are delivered to hospices, elderly care homes, shelters, and many other deserving beneficiaries within the local community.

And of course Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey is boycotting the banquet in a protest against Mr Trump's position on Gaza.

Which is his right of course. I admire him for adhering to his principles.

From what I saw, Camilla is wearing the Belgian sapphire tiara, and The Princess is wearing Queen Mary’s lovers knot tiara, which is her favourite. I’m a tiara spotter, I’m on the look out for them wearing different ones, but sadly not this time.

X posts ronib ✔️

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 17-Sept-25 20:47:04

Mr Trump is a teetotaller so will not indulge in sampling the variety of vintage wines on offer, nor the cocktail unless it is alcohol-free.

ronib Wed 17-Sept-25 20:45:57

No thank you. Trump is teetotal. Just as well. FGT2 re the cocktail.

Not everyone is happy:

The leader of the Green Party said the pomp and ceremony of Donald Trump’s second state visit is “absolutely outrageous”.

Speaking at a rally, Zack Polanski said: “Of course, we should have a relationship with the American president who’s democratically elected, but to give him a state visit, millions of pounds spent on security, a red carpet, the pomp and ceremony of everything that’s happening - that’s absolutely outrageous.

And Corbyn too of course. I’ll spare you …. 😁

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 17-Sept-25 20:41:46

The King has started a new tradition.
Cocktail:
A cocktail called the Transatlantic Whisky Sour has also been created for the state visit, combining Johnnie Walker Black with the bright citrus of marmalade.

It will be crowned with a pecan foam and garnished with a toasted marshmallow set on a star-shaped biscuit, “evoking the warmth of a fireside s’more” - the classic American marshmallows melted between chocolate biscuits.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 17-Sept-25 20:39:57

Dresses:

The Queen was wearing a royal blue silk marocain embroidered dress by Fiona Clare, and a sapphire and diamond tiara, and the King’s Family Order.

First lady Melania Trump opted for a fitted, more daring off-the-shoulder, long-sleeved yellow gown, with contrasting pink belt.

Music
:
The state banquet will feature fanfares by The State Trumpeters of The Household Cavalry and performances by The Duchess of Edinburgh’s String Orchestra led by Captain Alexandra Nixon.

A James Bond medley precedes Schubert’s Ave Maria, while Tonight from West Side Story is followed by Purcell’s Trumpet tune and air.

Puccini, Handel, Bach and Brahms are on the set list, as is Elton John’s Tiny Dancer.
