Security will have to be sky high and protests are predicted as one the most unpopular world leaders comes to visit the royal family.

Just been looking at some photos of the visit and the Royals all look genuinely happy and relaxed in the company of The POTUS and his beautiful wife. Charles is having a great laugh today. The late Queen could give very frosty looks and a cold shoulder if she did not approve of dignitaries she had to entertain but even she seemed comfortable when DT visited on a previous occasion.

At least there is no Prince Harry sulking and scowling in the background this time.
Prince Andrew’s fall from grace must be a relief to Trump as I don’t suppose he would be too keen to bump into him at tonight’s banquet.

If there had been a journey driving through the population, rather than him having to be only kept away from everyone, I wanted people to line up and as he came near turn their backs on the cavalcade to show in a dignified but safe way, that he was neither welcome or wanted. If all the way along the journey the same silent behaviour would have clearly shown the feelings of many people, but in a safe, decent way, that while we may not be able to declare our feelings directly to him, that we would not allow him to ignore our feelings.

Specki4 eyes - your first post were my first thoughts exactly.

Hope the King can tell him loud and clear President Zelensky DID NOT START the War!

Ralph Lauren!

So far so good. No high profile drive with carriages and military etc parading along the street of London or Windsor. And he isn’t speaking in Westminster this time. He thrives on publicity and public acknowledgement. And as an aside what on earth was Melania wearing!

What on earth were 'they' thinking when this was promised? An already convicted felon, a misogynist, a racist, a man who exploits his position to incite violent, deadly, destructive riots? What in the name of God can justify this? Trade deals? He could renege on those on a whim! And in any case, does money make it justifiable? Why hasn't the King said no to this? How do you explain to young people that all the things you have taught them about right and wrong can be forgotten...because this vile bully must be appeased? I am incensed.

It is customary for heads of state to visit other countries, and to not invite any president or sovereign could easily cause a diplomatic crisis.

Do you really want a diplomatic crisis right now? Have you not enough problems to be going on with?

Totally agree with you Woodenspoon.

Unpopular? Considering some of the evil despots our Monarchs have had to make welcome over the years I suspect that Donald’s visit will be a welcome relief

Chump is here and we are talking about what the 'ladies' wore! shock sad

... "It may well end in good ‘deals’ for the UK."
Hmm, maybe, until 2 hours later when he changes his 'mind' and announces random tariffs - then changes his 'mind' 2 hours later. angry

And we are paying for this political schmooze. Disgusting.
Poor Charles.

eazybee Wed 17-Sept-25 14:45:59

I thought Melania looked very elegant

Why do royal ladies always carry handbags?
No need for anything other than a hanky and reading glasses.

He’s here. He’s had a huge welcome by the royals. Unlike Biden, Obama and Clinton, he actually seems to like this country. Heaven knows why given the hatefulness towards him.

The royals are exercising their diplomacy. It may well end in good ‘deals’ for the UK. God knows, we need those.

Before the usual suspects start, I’m not that interested in American politics so banging on about his wrongs don’t interest me.

He’s here. Let’s see what happens. At least Khan isn’t involved.

he actually seems to like this country

His Scottish mother apparently brought him up to respect the Royal Family.

I expect he enjoys all the respect given to him as POTUS, which is afforded to all USA Presidents.

Brooches are definitely in ATM, MIL left me some and I've been looking through them, none as grand as the royals have but some are very pretty and will dress up an outfit. I thought Camilla and Kate looked very elegant.

Your tag name says it all!

I’m assuming you mean me. Perhaps you’d like to elaborate.

I thought all ladies dressed to their strengths and didn’t overwhelm the menfolk which was possibly their intention. Very glamorous but under stated.

ronib Wed 17-Sept-25 13:54:01

It’s great camouflage?

Casdon Wed 17-Sept-25 13:52:43

I liked her hat, and her outfit, I just thought it looked austere, because there appeared to be no embellishment, either on her hat or her jacket.

ronib Wed 17-Sept-25 13:50:37

I think Melania looked a bit like a lamp stand?

Casdon Wed 17-Sept-25 13:50:00

ronib

And the hats?

Princess of Wales hat was the most flattering I think. She really suits hats.

The visit is primarily I guess for good business transactions. bet all the royals are putting on a face.

ronib Wed 17-Sept-25 13:47:52

Sensible woman!!

Usedtobeblonde Wed 17-Sept-25 13:47:13

It could be anyone under the hat worn by the wife of the President.
She didn’t want any kissing did she ?
