Security will have to be sky high and protests are predicted as one the most unpopular world leaders comes to visit the royal family.

Maremia Sat 20-Sept-25 19:05:48

Yes, Princess Catherine did a great job with Melania.

Maremia Sat 20-Sept-25 19:04:49

Wasn't Khan elected three times as the Mayor of London? He must be doing something right.
That was brilliant strategy MrsMatt. Don't think he noticed that Murdoch was there too.

As a country we are good at diplomacy, we've had lots of practice and I've started to appreciate why it's a good idea to have a king or queen as the head of state. I'm afraid I didn't think the King looked well but Royalty did a good job.

It's a fine tightrope- on one side making Trump out to be a dangerous idiot, on the other just taking him for the idiot he is and showering him with flattery and sparkly bling.

I wouldn't call myself a lover of the RF but I think we showed him up. He knew it and the US knows it. They are just mesmerised by the trappings of a democracy much older and more experienced in international diplomacy than the US.

Starmer and The King can’t afford to laugh quietly or otherwise at the only person who can revive the economy here. The laugh is on them surely?

I think Trump actually came across well. Much better than I thought he would. He looked and acted like a leader and he spoke well. I think the whole show was good for Starmer and the UK and I thought all the pomp and ceremony was wonderful.

What? Didn't you think Starmer and the King were quietly and diplomatically laughing at him, and I think at times he knew that but couldn't do or say anything because he was just like a kid in a toyshop?

Sadly, I hadn't been aware of the exhibition J52.
Thank you for pointing it out!
But the book is glorious - can anyone undercut £10😉

ronib Fri 19-Sept-25 16:27:47

The Geoffrey Mann book was on EBay recently for £36.99 so a tenner was a bargain.

Casdon

From what I saw, Camilla is wearing the Belgian sapphire tiara, and The Princess is wearing Queen Mary’s lovers knot tiara, which is her favourite. I’m a tiara spotter, I’m on the look out for them wearing different ones, but sadly not this time.

Do you know this weighty tome on tiaras, Casdon?

A charity shop find for a tenner, it's glorious!
Lots of glossy pics, details and history.

Did you get to the V&A Tiara exhibition some years ago? It was spectacular, this book accompanied it. I do like Geoffrey Mann.
Sorry off topic!

MayBee if I could choose a PM - from anywhere, anybody - it would be Danny Kruger by a country mile.

Why? What particularly appeals to you about this individual?

Purple markings on Oxford St, London, warning people of phone theft and grabs

What on earth? 🤔

MrsMatt Fri 19-Sept-25 10:44:00

I just love the way he was confined within the walls of Windsor 😂. Even a jolly little ride in the golden carriage was within the grounds. Then in his 'speech' (babble) he stated that he was the only US president to have been invited to the UK not once but twice and hoped he would be the last one. Jeez, that man is absolutely nuts.

Trumps comments about Sadiq Khan were infantile

Sadiq Khan IS infantile though. Remember him gloating and enjoying the Trump balloon floating over London but did not allow the equally funny one of him to fly! khan can dish it out but not take it.

“khan is among the worst Mayors in the world” says Trump and that is absolutely true! Crime rates and knife crimes have soared and he is doing whatsoever to improve them.

Grantanow Fri 19-Sept-25 09:28:58

One has to look beyond Mr Trump to his immensely important role as President. It makes no sense to antagonise the US and I think the government's approach to him and his role is the right one. The noisy protesters achieve nothing.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 19-Sept-25 08:10:38

I do agree with everything written above about Trump, but unfortunately we have to live with him for a few years, and I don’t think it is very clever to make an enemy of America, particularly at present given the geo-political facts with Putin breathing down our necks.

I also think that Trump is making things a lot worse for a lot of people. And frankly abhors everything that he stands for.

What a complicated world we live in.

Roll on 2029! 🤞🤞

Have you listened to what Sadiq Khan has been saying about POTUS?

So disrespectful, he is Mayor of London not Mayor of UK…

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 19-Sept-25 07:05:17

Sorry, but I just can’t listen to trump or watch him. The way that other world leaders have to cozy up to him and hopefully not upset him is appalling. He is so thin-skinned and won’t hear any criticism, Awful man who seems to be wrecking his country. He doesn’t have a shred of decency nor a diplomatic bone in his body.

eazybee Fri 19-Sept-25 06:51:58

Is the comment referring to the photograph Wyllow thought was so amusing but was actually just vulgar?

As a member of the British public proud to call him out:

Infantile
