Why do so many people support Reform, and Tommy Robinson

The question is (should be) why is it that a growing sector of the population is so disenfranchised with mainstream politics?

Why are they so concerned for their children in this changing UK?

Why has TR been held up as a paragon of British Unity ?

Our current PM maybe should address these issues?

I have lifted this post from another thread.
A couple of posters on there were talking about this issue.

growstuff those on the new state pension, and no other income will be liable to tax after the April 2026 increase according to Martin Lewis.

I am aware that many pensioners already pay tax, those with private pensions, dividends, interest on deposits etc.

I do hope your take is correct GG13, on the interviews you have watched, but it won't help if we become complacent.

I also hope that I am correct.

I have been posted on here numerous times over recent years, that the last Government were complacent in not listening to voters concerns.

Labour appears to be following the same path, totally incapable of reading the room I wish the PM had a better comms team along with a reassuring plan, one which he will carry through.

They seem to be doing little for those most in need, too frightened to go after the big boys regarding tax.

The next hurdle after listening to Martin Lewis this morning is the likelihood that those on the higher state pension will be above the personal tax allowance next year due to how the triple lock works. I suspect this will not be favourable?

This is why I personally think that Saturdays march, and any subsequent ones are a protest against the major parties as opposed to an allegiance to Tommy Robinson/Stephen Yaxley-Lennon or whatever he is calling himself at any given moment in time.

GG13 75% of pensioners already pay income tax because their total income is above the threshold. Why do you think next year will be any different?

I’d be wary of getting my information from that source, I’m no fan of his, however I can see that the present Labour mob came to power on a mandate that they have ignored now in government, the 22 billion black hole has proven to be a lie as have so many other statements. TR appeals to millions as does Farage because of the weakness of this government on the issues that concern so many of us.

I'm sure Putin will be rubbing his hands in glee at the thought of Farage spreading dissension . The more the better as far as he is concerned.

^Also they won’t be able to sort out illegal immigration either.^

Why not?
Though I dont know peoperly what they have said the plans are.

Their ‘plans’ are just shouting at the Opposition that they are doing it all wrong and they would do it ‘right’… ie: no real plan!

It would be good if the Labour Party got their act together, finally, and actually listened to people instead of ignoring them and calling anyone who remotely disagrees with them, ‘far right’ Don’t they realise that that is very, very insulting ?

I’m not aware of the Labour Party calling people ‘far right’. Can you give me an example please ( I am avoiding the news these days so must have missed it).

Issysman Tue 16-Sept-25 15:08:48

opposition parties always have lots of ideas. But are lacking detail.
The question for the conservatives is
You had 15 years why didn't you ?

Social media exaggerates UK problems. Some politicians seize on that narrative, select someone to blame - immigrants, the EU, Jews, whoever - and then present oversimplistic 'solutions' which could never work except to get them elected. We've seen it work in Germany before WW2.

I think for the same reason that USA support Trump. They believe in their lies and promises. Lots of people are very disillusioned with both main parties and are looking for a change. I don't think Reform.is the answer and would hope people have the sense to see this eould be as much a disaster as the USA. However I'm not even sure who I would vote for next time because they all seem to have it in for Pensioners and the genuinely Disabled. All the people who have the least influence in the country but a lot of whom need the help.

I wouldn’t say that Nigel Farage and Tommy Robinson are the same! Reform is attracting support because we are fed up with the Labour Government

Farage disassociates himself from Yaxley Lennon. But it doesn’t mean that they don’t both share the same core values. Imo YL is Farages henchman.

Britain has always been Great. It was named this to differentiate it from Brittany.
It has not, and will not, become any less, or more great , and no rhetoric from any political group can claim otherwise.

No voters or governments should ever be complacent. It’s both lazy and dangerous!

Maremia Tue 16-Sept-25 14:02:45

One of the 'nothings' that Labour has done, is to introduce the Hillborough Law into Parliament just now.

As far as I can see Reform are riding high because Farage's ideas are becoming increasingly popular with voters. For too long this country has had Tory & Labour Governments who are ineffectual. 14 years of Tory rule left the country in a worse state than when they came to power and as for Labour, their first year has been abysmal. People want this merry-go-round to stop. They want a party who will put Britain first and will tackle the major issues that concern so many of us. Reform and Tommy Robinson give us a glimmer of hope that Britain can be Great Britain once more.

Good grief, I can agree that we’ve been let down by various governments, but I cannot EVER agree that Reform and Yaxley-Lennon give us a glimmer of hope, what they give me is fear and despair!

Cossy They may give you fear and despair but there are huge numbers of people in the UK right now who are so disillusioned and frustrated by ineffectual Governments that Reform and Tommy Robinson will have some appeal. They are saying what many of those unhappy voters want to hear. You only had to see the huge numbers in London on Saturday to get an idea of the strength of feeling and it is growing.
I would not relish Farage or Robinson getting within spitting distance of No 10 but many do because Labour and Tory Governments have done nothing and those people have had enough.

Babs03 Tue 16-Sept-25 13:56:38

There are so many political problems that need sorting asap, the NHS, homelessness, child poverty, the cost of living crisis, education, affordable housing, the state of our waterways etc., etc.
So how are Yaxley Lennon, Musk, and Farage going to tackle that lot??
Or are they just one trick ponies??

MollyNew Tue 16-Sept-25 13:55:58

They support reform because they cannot see further than Farage's empty promises. Where the dickens will he find the money for all his so called projects? He doesn;t give a flying fig for us ordinary folks, neither does he know how we manage.

Spot on, mabon2.

Farage styles himself as a man of the people but it's all window dressing. He is part of the establishment, whatever image he portrays. Unfortunately, he is a good actor and as slippery as an eel.

Authoress Tue 16-Sept-25 13:52:59

I think it's because Farage, Robinson, Musk, and his tech bros are absolute masters of manipulating social media and the mainstream media, and it is almost impossible for a non-tech person to distinguish truth from fable.
I spend a fair amount of time on Facebook pointing out to people who are reposting some of this stuff why the picture they have posted is an AI fake, or sending them off to factchecking sites.
The latest guff is that there are more illegal immigrants in the country than members of the armed forces. Well, there are 40,000-ish illegal immigrants. There are about five times that number of people in the Armed Forces. But if your feeling of safety has already been shaken by similarly false pronouncements, you're not going to bother to factcheck; it will just add to your general unease, and you might well be moved to spread the falsehood further to your own social media circle.

Nellygran Tue 16-Sept-25 13:50:37

Because most people care only for themselves and believe TRs goals are a way to happiness. How wrong they are.
