It’s the left really as well as fear of losing the Muslim vote and upsetting trade unions and members of the Party who are very pro Palestinian. You see it happening in Italy just now organised by the left and the trade unions there.
Their peaceful pro Palestinian protest has injured 60 police officers!
Macron is unpopular and has given in as appeasement.
The West is in general pro Israel as they don’t want Islamist extremism in their own countries and left to themselves wouldn’t be recognising a State that doesn’t exist, but Starmer and Macron are both unpopular in their countries, this is simply playing politics .
But you always claim to be part of the "left". Don't tell us you've been telling porkies all this time! We'd never have guessed.

I just wonder how those cheering Netanyahu on and unhappy with erstwhile allies recognising Palestine can explain why these governments, that were falling over themselves to support Israel, have no withdrawn their support. After all these are allies that stuck by Israel through every other conflict with Gaza, and ‘yes’ there have been others, yes innocent Palestinians were killed then also, and no Hamas had not launched an attack on Israelis on those occasions, so hardly provoked, but still western allies held fast. However, this time they haven’t. Why?
And just saying they want the Muslim vote doesn’t wash, certainly these governments haven’t cared too much about this in the past, France has gone out of its way to alienate its Muslim population and the UK hardly took their side for some time, even saying in the beginning that it was a good move to stop water and electricity in Gaza.
So why?
Could it possibly be because on this occasion Netanyahu has gone way beyond the pale, even by Israeli government standards, and fears of the stain of genocide sticking to western governments long after the dust has settled outweigh the loss of an erstwhile ally
No mention of the luxury holiday resort for over a year , come
Trump this year , luxury holiday resort
Members of the Knesset have been accused of corruption and at least two have been convicted of criminal offences. Not a good look for the government of a nation like Israel.
Trump's comprehensive plan for Gaza is to turn it into a holiday resort and hi tech manufacturing area.
It is easy to find if you read various news outlets.
Netanyahu hasnt avoided prosecution, he has already been charged and attends court for corruption and other offences.
As for the new Las Vegas in Gaza, plans have been well publicised.
So no, no porkies.
How tales change, Netanyahu started the war October 2023 to avoid being prosecuted for some criminal action allegedly.
January 2025 Trump president of US, Netanyahu started the war to kill all those in Gaza , take Gaza and with Trump turn it into a luxurious holiday destination, allegedly
2 large porkies I think
"There are only at the most 20 live hostages to return and over 200 were taken.
Not a bad effort by BN and his government by anyone’s reckoning."
Seeing how the hoastage's families have persistently campaigned and protested to try to get the return of the hostages forefront in Netanyahu's actions, I imagine they think it has been a very poor effort.
I agree silverlining, Netanyahu only cares about bulldozing what is left of Gaza and securing it for Israelis, though he will have to sell off some of it at mates rates to Trump who wants to build another vegas.
Imagine living on top of the countless skeletons of Palestinians buried too deep to retrieve, I shudder at the thought of it.
Not a bad effort by Netanyahu and his cronies? Seriously.? He clearly doesn’t give damn about them.
He could have had all the hostages back 6 months ago had he kept to the agreement he signed up to.
In the meantime they have suffered the bombs and rockets , the starvation and destruction that the rest of Gaza have suffered, it’s a miracle that any survive.
AGAA4
The truth is the hostages have been forgotten by their own government who have given them scant regard in their aim for Gaza.

Your truth

Is blatantly obvious the suffering and deaths of some people has no currency, if the shoe were on the other foot and 65,000 Israelis were dead I imagine it would be called a genocide and every single death would matter enormously.
All deaths in war matter Babs03 but sometimes there isn’t a choice.
Think how many lives were lost in all other wars and conflicts, just in the 20th century.
The truth is the hostages have been forgotten by their own government who have given them scant regard in their aim for Gaza.

The hostages have been very much forgotten by some, including Keir Starmer.
So why are the families in Israel blaming Netanyahu?
Do you suppose you know better than them?
Some are some aren’t but in any case you would be angry if the PM of your own country hadn’t been able to get your hostage loved one back wouldn’t you? It’s been extremely hard to get them out but fortunately most have been.
We don’t know how long 20 of the hostages have been dead maybe for a very long time, or even if the other 20 are alive.
No, the truth.

Classic deflection/whataboutery.

Hamas agreed to return the hostages in March but Israel decided to carry on bombing Gaza.
It's clear that Netanyahu isn't interested in the hostages. Their families agree with this.
All Netanyahu and his government want is to rid Gaza of all Palestinians.
They have flattened the land so they and the US can build on it.
