Well, there may be a case to tweak the ECHR, in order to protect our citizens, but much cleverer lawyers will argue why this should not be done, which may persuade me otherwise.

But I still come down on the side protecting the whole of us. Getting rid of it for the tiniest minority makes zero sense to me.

How worried can an individual be about being returned to their home country and possible torture if they commit a serious crime such as rape? Surely they would keep their noses clean if they were concerned in that respect. If it isn't bad enough he is potentially dangerous through his bomb making activities, lawyers sometimes put up a defence in sexual crimes along the lines , "oh they didn't really understand the expectations that they weren't supposed to do that here"

There are parts of RCHR that I find difficult. Protecting the human rights of a rapist while the victim's rights are ignored. A woman's whole life can be blighted by rape.
I think ECHR should stay but this part needs a rethink.

Yes did you not see my post that suggested “tweaking” it.

But I think we need to be very careful.

After the atrocities committed on all sides during the two wars, people like Churchill in their wisdom, understood that people need protecting from their governments.

This is one of our (as ordinary citizens) line of defence. And we need it more than ever today.

Obviously this man is a criminal and so should be deported but our judicial process can be slow, and though this is frustrating like WWM2 I do support due legal process.
I also support the ECHR, and would recommend everyone supports a court that upholds human rights, seeing as we are all human and can have our rights compromised, no matter how upset we are about the present situation going down the road of eroding human rights is a slippery slope.
Also is worth adding that this man is one bad apple, he by no means represents all asylum seekers coming here. And the likes of Farage and Yaxley Lennon can only cause division and hatred, their agenda is not to get to grips with the small boats debacle.
Only the government can do this so I recommend people do march on Westminster but without the likes of Yaxley Lennon and Musk, and that they are campaigning and petitioning government with the help of MPs or councillors, with possible political solutions to small boats.

There was an article in the Daily Mail (Yes, I know!) where a Bangladeshi man had come to this country and had been housed in a flat in a retirement complex. Within weeks, here comes his wife and 7 children to join him and more recently wife number 2 and her 2 children have arrived.
The local authority are trying to evict him as he has breached his tenancy agreement. He claims he cannot understand written English. By a stroke of luck he was able to read the benefits claim form and receives an additional disability allowance as he cannot work due to depression and sleep apnoea. How does sleep apnoea affect you at work? He is demanding a large house otherwise he refuses to move out. Meanwhile the elderly people in the retirement complex are complaining about 9 out of control children making their lives a misery. He now has a lawyer fighting his case, no doubt paid for by the taxpayer. Any bets on who will win?

This story is not quite true.
Wife no2 and 3 year old twins have joined him in the 1 bed retirement apartment.
The other children and wife live elsewhere in the UK.
Wife no2 came here on a spousal visa.

Amazing as a good friends son couldn’t bring his lovely Russian wife to the UK despite her having the promise of work, her husband is a high earner and they had accommodation.
She got here eventually but after jumping through many hoops.

They are lawyers employed to protect and uphold our rule of law, both as prosecution and defence lawyers.

A core principle in our law is that everyone going to a court of law is entitled to legal representation. If lawyers refused to represent anyone, our legal system would fall apart

It all makes me feel sick. And my blood turn cold.

I am becoming more wary, I think it is possible that it may also be used to overturn the supreme court ruling on the definition of sex/ single sex spaces (there is a challenge in progrss as far as I understand) - I am watching that with concern. But I think I am certainly no longer at the place of 'oh of course this is a good thing'.
