Ok Trump suggested this …as after all we’re being invaded…actually I tend to think this is an ok idea….i see Trump’s logic here and for once in my life, I agree with this…am sick and fed up seeing people land here and get taken care of re housing/food/ etc etc…rant over…not slept..lumbar pain…

Let's face it, if any of this was easy, it would have been done.

There is no single solution to deal with the the boats. It has to be a multi faceted and international approach - which is what the current Government is doing.

Ignorance and impatience is not the answer.

Really..Ignorance and impatience is not the answer....

69 inflatables have been seized this year on the Turkish/ Bulgaria border this year
Once upon a time this border was as weak as a fag paper but obviously things have changed.

What happens to all these boats?
Do they get recycled or go into landfill? 😲

You’re not wrong. Some of the suggestions/ ideas on here are bordering on Dads Army. 😂

I really don’t understand that with all the controls there are around the world, regarding banks and tracing money, that the powers that be can’t block the money arriving at the smugglers bank accounts.

Yes. Or the payments nade to the suppliers of the small boats which could then be traced back to the manufacturers?

Anyone would think that those in power, in many different countries do not want to stop this…

Or do not know how to deal with this and are passing the problems on from country to country.

Well if you're like my relatives with advanced dementia you will just want someone kind who knows how to care for you.

My point was we don't know who will be caring for us if we need care. Looks like my relatives home couldn't run without the foreign staff, I found the same in our local hospital where my Consultant was Indian and my named nurse was from the Philippines. The British nurses were singing the praises of the nurses from the Philippines and as a patient id have to agree. She was excellent.

My point was we don't know who will be caring for us if we need care.

Which is my point as well.
And now from what you wrote earlier, there is a bigger problem that I had not thought about previously.

It's a documentary, not drama.

I'll try later when I'm off French tv.
There is too much drama about to take place on the pitch at the moment. 🏉
Good England try. 👍
But thanks, none the less.

My non-starter would be to find the Chinese (?) boat manufacturer first and work back. If the boats had to be registered in the first place, that would obviously help, but I don't know how tight paperwork at the point of sale it.

Oh yes it does prove something Oreo. Most villages and towns in the UK are the same. If you want, you can even Google the demographic profiles of these places, which disproves the paranoia and hysterical language which is being used about immigrants.

All money transactions are done through crypto currency. Good luck with that one.

Royal navy boats patrolling the channels and turning the rubber boats back to France for a few months should give potential illegal migrants something to think about.

Fast-tracking the introduction of universal identity cards in the UK would be a far better use of time and money.
The ability to live under the radar without documents is why many people seek to enter the UK.
Why don't the people who are so concerned about immigration campaign a bit harder?

Excellent idea, Mamie.

The number of undocumented people in the UK is estimated at between 700,000 and 900,000 according to Full Fact.
Farage claims that there are far more.

The Government tinkered around the edges of this problem earlier this year, bringing through new rules in a rush, thus causing problems for people who wished to come here for a short visit then return home again. It has done nothing to solve the current problem.

Just to be clear Allira I am talking about universal ID cards, the same requirement for the entire population, as is the case for almost all of Europe.
I think there is some discussion of digital ID for the UK at the moment.

Yes, I did understand what you meant, Mamie.

I have absolutely nothing against ID cards although know some dislike the idea. Not everyone has a passport or driving licence to prove their ID.

Be careful about condemning migrants in case you ever need care. I visited an elderly relative with advanced dementia in her care home. Barely a white face in sight and no British accents at all just very kind caring people doing a brilliant job that British people don't seem to want to do.

I do, so do other white people in my area.We have a few Eastern European care workers just now but mainly, like me white British.
It all depends where you live.

Thank you for proving what I've been saying. There are many people in the UK who aren't affected in any way by immigrants. The people making the noise have weaponised them for their own agenda.

It proves nothing at all that you’re saying growstuff just that in my particular care home in my particular town there are white British workers such as myself working there.
In some areas, towns then the scene is likely to be different. In London 49% are now foreign born.

Your idea about stopping the sale of boats to criminals is a complete non-starter. How exactly could you stop any sale?

fancythat Sat 20-Sept-25 15:21:27

People do seem to think catching criminals is child's play!

Pretyy sure there are people in the know, about who these people are!

No end of technology nowadays.
Not to mention spies etc etc.

I'm under no illusions about the complexity of the situation, Growstuff, and I doubt whetheranyone on GN is privy to the truth about what actually goes on behind the scenes.
That's why I start with simplicity in my suggestion. Block the sale of the boats to criminals, even if it costs us in the short term. (Though I guess they'll only go and find other manufacturers).

No, they aren't privy, but some seem completely unaware.

My daughter works for the NCA. She's quite senior, but even she is only allowed to know a very small amount of current operations and she's not allowed to speak about them.

However, the NCA does publish details about past operations and I'm aware that work is ongoing.

ooh. good point.

It's really not a good point! International criminals don't use the kind of high street banks which can easily be controlled.

What do they use?
Since you seem to know quite a lot about it all.

They use burner phones, bitcoin, accounts in countries which don't allow international scrutiny, warehouses in remote destinations and many other methods.

Should be a good match. 🏉
I predict we'll win.

Oh! People on GN (and elsewhere) do seem to think there are simple solutions. Just read some of it:

- send the Navy in!
- hack into bank accounts!

What a joke!

They have no idea what is already being done or what has already been achieved. They have no idea how sophisticated and complicated the networks are.

A few weeks ago, people were cheering some GBNews presenter who challenged a people smuggler in France. What they don't seem to realise is that he was expendable and alerted the bosses to one meeting point being rumbled. It's very possible it undid work that the NCA had been doing undercover - but that doesn't improve viewing figures.

People do seem to think catching criminals is child's play!
