Trump attacked Sadiq Khan when speaking at the UN today saying he is a horrible mayor and imposing Sharia law on London.
What!!!!
Firstly what has our London Mayor got to do with Trump??
If Londoners want to critisize him so be it but Trump should just keep his nose out of it.
Also to say all that nonsense about Sharia law is offensive and blatantly Islamophobic.
The US ambassador in London should be called to account over this.

I’m slightly off piste now But - I wonder why Trump picked on Khan rather than our white British mayors? I’m listening to b radio Manc, with Andy Burnham our mayor. His politics would rattle Mr T I’m sure

Nothing to do with colour, race but everything to do with Khan badmouthing Trump online years ago and recently too.
Trump has a long memory and holds grudges. It was extremely undiplomatic of Khan when Starmer has to deal with Trump on various matters including tariffs.

Iam64 Thu 25-Sept-25 14:26:11

What does any of that got to do with the Potus. When did any prime minister of this country criticise the mayor of NewYork for example
You disapprove of Khan yet he’s popular enough in London to win the vote.

IMO the President would be well advised to review his priorities and basic belief systems. Banning books, refusing to fund research into areas he despises, this way is not good (As he might say

Probably because Khan is Mayor of London which is our capital and very highly paid for doing very little. He earns more than the PM.

OOOO. You have a point Iam64. Wonder what is was specifically about Khan?

It’s an unfortunate fact of life that the while the ā€œcreamā€ can rise to the top so can the scum.
Just keep ā€œtangerine manā€ - and his flunkies, out of our domestic politics, education and health services. We’ll survive.

But poor Americans. Roll on to their next elections. It is in their hands.

Thank you Lizzie Drip; I understood the point perfectly, but as it obviously gives you pleasure being rude, so be it.

My point remains, why does a woman shopping repeatedly in a charity shop where she knows all donations are intended for charity, insist on haggling, attempting to browbeat the assistant into reducing the price?

I volunteered in a charity shop for 15 years. We allowed no haggling at all and had a large sign by the till to that effect. Every Monday morning we used to get an African woman coming in and haggling. We told her time and time again that haggling is not allowed because our goods were reasonably priced but she pretended not to understand.

We found out she was a careworker covering weekends in private houses and caught the Express coach back to London on Mondays with her bargains as some of the other charity shops did allow her to barter. They suspected she was selling it on because she bought so much.

There shouldn’t be any haggling in a charity shop, none.

Sadiq Khan has responded to the slur by Trump. He called Trump racist, sexist, mysogynist and homophobic.
Almost covers it I think.

I think it would be more dignified for Khan to ignore it and say nothing, it will look stupid if it gets to a ding dong online between them. The other thing is diplomacy, Starmer has had to work hard at a good relationship with Trump and Khan could potentially ruin things. There are two egos at play and Khan has to be the better person.

It's very sad because, according to reports, Ivana's grave is very neglected. You'd think her three children, at least, would make sure it is tended.

His first wife never wrote a book - she’s buried at one of his golf courses. His second wife (Tiffany’s mother) has never written a book either. I imagine she had been told not to. Just wait until this dreadful man is RIP, there will be so many books written about him it would take up the whole of his Presidential library!

The first wife did write a book and she’s also the mother of his daughter.

Doesn’t his wife’s burial at the golf course mean he doesn’t have to pay tax ( or something like that) on it?

I wonder if that was what she would have chosen?

MayBee70 Wed 24-Sept-25 16:07:39

ā€œIt’s been three years*since US President Donald Trump buried his first wife, Ivana Trump, on the grounds of his New Jersey golf course, and this unusual decision is once again drawing attention. The reason? A potential tax benefit to the president.

Ivana, who died in July 2022 following a fall in her Manhattan home at the age of 73, was laid to rest at the Trump National Golf Course in Bedminster, New Jersey, with no fence, flowers or public memorial, unlike traditional gravesites.

This caught the attention of many, who believed it was a potential financial strategy.

According to the New Jersey state tax code, any land used for cemeteries is exempt from all taxes, including real estate taxes.

Additionally, cemetery companies are excluded from paying business taxes, sales taxes, income taxes, inheritance taxes, and personal property taxes on their land, reports Fortuneā€.

Trump loves to shock. Trying to deflect questions about why he hasn't resolved the Ukraine/Russia war in an afternoon as boasted by him.
Trump's on a roll at the moment. Sharia Law, paracetamol, what a load of claptrap he spouts.

Insanity and a total lack of coherency. Not balanced mentally nor emotionally.

Melania shall be able to write a book on subject insanity.

And what about the Lady from Nigeria who haggles every time to beat down the price of goods donated to raise money for charity?

What about her?
I worked in a high street charity shop where all manner of people haggled, we discouraged it but of course some people like a bargain and others genuinely don’t have enough money to make the purchase.
You can’t do much about it and charities are grateful for any money filling their tills, as Tesco are prone to say ā€˜every little helps’.
We tended to do a discount on multi sales, people who bought several items amounting to a fair sum.

My partner was a sales rep. He said people didn’t know that they could haggle in shops of all kinds. He even got a discount on some bedding from John Lewis one day. I mentioned it to a friend of mine who bought, I think, a ring from somewhere and got the price reduced. None of us made a habit of it, though.

The same with us. If haggling was an Olympic sport this woman would win the gold hands down

This woman is resident in Nigeria. She comes over 4 times a year to see family. She brings 2 empty suit cases with her to fill with her bargains.
We have a lovely gentleman from Iraq who buys a lot of men’s shoes. He gets a discount because, number one they aren’t a good seller and number two he’s doing a kind thing.

Babs03 Wed 24-Sept-25 12:31:51

And yes you have spectacularly missed the point.

You appear to have missed the point!

One Nigerian woman who haggles in a charity shop is NOT representative or ā€˜typical’ of ALL people with black skin colour.

That’s why the volunteer’s comment was racist.

Why is it difficult to understandšŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Haggling in charity shops is not unique to ladies from Nigeria.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 24-Sept-25 12:24:16

I am always in awe of people who haggle so successfully.

We tried it once in Mexico, and somehow managed to haggle the price up😃
