Gransnet was being cautious, WWM. Gransnet's policy iseems to me to be more cautious about political correctness than some other forums, maybe more so than most other forums.

The bbc has a royal charter, and is supposed to be impartial. The government decide on the price of the tv /rafio license so not independent in the same way as other channels.

Some people from all religions simply are the sort of personality that likes to get involved in violence instead of reason.

No religion is better or worse than any other religion. Sects like Quakers and Unitarians value reason more than certain other sects.

Was interested in FGTs statement that masks and megaphones are illegal so had a Quick Look. They are not illegal.

Is the BBC an independent channel ?

I wouldn’t agree there is blanket coverage of Gaza by the bbc.
Other independent channels such as ch 4 or even ITV are more likely to report on Gaza than the bbc and there is rarely a mention of what is going on in the West Bank.

Why miss an opportunity to mock the Jewish Faith

I’m all for free speech. It’s important to be able to protest. However wearing masks, balaclavas and shouting through a megaphone is against the law.

So why do we still see this?

It surely is very intimidating. And the protesters carry on doing it.

We are too soft that’s for sure. European police wouldn’t put up with this on the streets of their capital cities week after bluddy week.

I think it’s because we police ‘by consent’ in this country. Well the days of Dixon of Dock Green are long behind us. The anger and demographics of the UK have changed immeasurably since then. Our police need to adapt or our streets will become even more frightening. Tensions are ramping up, rhetoric is more nasty and something needs to be done.

They do - so why is a proscribed group allowed to march, especially at such a sensitive time?

I find it u settling that one or two posters have stated how much they dislike this country and the dissension that is happening, plus attempts to suppress freedom of speech. Not this thread, but on others. It crossed my mind that if the protests and clashes with police were happening in other countries, not that far from here but in Europe, the water cannons and tear gas would be used on protestors.

I think we are too soft in this country. Boris Johnson did buy some water canons to be used only in extreme circumstances, but sadly Sadiq Khan sold them for a pittance. Just knowing that they could be used might deter some from the violence.

Appealing to the better nature of the pro Palestinian mob is a waste of time, they don’t have one.
Police and the Home Sec would be doing something more useful by either banning any marches for a week, with what happened at the synagogue and 7th October coming up or ramping up police presence massively.

This applies only to a section of them, who cause violence against the many Jews in the diaspora who have no connection with the Israeli state and government, but share the Jewish faith.

It does not apply to the many moderate and non-violent people who have been made pro-Palestinian by the totally inappropriate amount of violence done to the Palestinian people and their physical surroundings by their retributions against all of them. Like me, these moderates condemned the original outrages done by Hamas and condoned the first reactions by Israelis as justifiable anger - but the continued total-war assaults were not and are not justifiable

Do not condemn those who can't accept the violence shown - that just adds to the hate already engulfing the area and spilling over into the rest of the world.

Elegran if only a small number of pro Palestinian supporters show up for protests then that will show that ‘moderate’ people have stayed at home and been decent and also respected the police message that they need to protect synagogues today.
I really hope that will be the case but we will see.

That makes me very cross indeed - and I whizzed off my reply, in complete contrast to what I suggested oreo ought to do which was take a breath before posting.
