Manchester Synagogue Attack

Apparently the GMP quick response was due to extensive training for fast response - deemed necessary after the Ariana Grande terrorist attack at Manchester Arena in 2017.

The police were at the synagogue within seven minutes of being called. As others have said, two Jewish men were killed and one is in icu after being accidentally shot by police aiming at the terrorist. Two as I understand it, shot through the floor they were bravely helping the rabbi hold closed against the terrorist,

It’s a tragedy for the injured and deceased, also for the brave fire arms officers running into they knew not what danger.

My Jewish friends who were inside, or stopped by po,ice as they were walking to the synagogue are safe but traumatised

I’m in despair that pro Palestinian marchers didn’t just stay home yesterday. As has been said, marches on Friday and Ym Kippur are intentional

The innocent Jewish people targeted in this attack in no way represent Netanyahu.
And the Killer in no way represents innocent Muslims.
If people want to stir the pot after this tragic loss of life, continuing with the kind of hatred that caused this, perhaps they could start another thread and allow people to mourn the dead and call for peace not division on this thread.

I think Himself was just expressing his horror at the attacks on the Jewish community. Needing security is beyond unacceptable he said.

I thought the comment you felt fit to share was absolutely appalling.

Places of worship have needed security for quite some time.

I fail to see what Mosques have to do with that.

I’ve just seen a statement from the killer’s family on BBC, which totally condemns his actions. What really does annoy me though is that they have mentioned the name of the street on which they live. That seems irresponsible to me in these awful circumstances, just asking for retaliation.

The BBC showed the street sign on the news last night so already out there, nothing to blame the family for.

surely Jews are the same as everyone else just practice their religion peacefully in the UK- they never try and cause trouble or offence. Just heard Jonathan Romain on Jeremy vine he spoke so eloquently

I'm wondering why given the murders a jubilant march by pro Palestinians was allowed to take place later. Fanning the flames and terrifying the Jewish community further.

I think it was impromptu, no doubt organised over social media. Given it’s impossible to know in advance about impromptu events, I think it is wrong for the media to publicise them, as giving them air time is wrong and may spur others to copy.

It was not impromptu. It was a planned event to coincide with Yom Kippur apparently.

How does anybody know that for sure? Did the murderer leave a note?

I have just seen that. It appears the person shot was trying to stop the killer, I can't begin to imagine how that police officer will feel.

I think it likely that the shot was meant to hit the attacker, but if he was trying to get in the door and the defender was right behind the door trying to stop him, and they moved about, the shot could easily go right through the wood, or through a narrow gap.

He will face an enquiry, as do all police officers in that situation. The British police are not allowed to be trigger-happy.

I feel there's more to come out about the motivation behind this incident. The accidental shooting by a police officer just makes it all the more tragic and pointless.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of the victims. It's so depressing to know that it's been caused by hatred.

It has just been announced that the Police shot another person (dead) who they say was not involved with the incident.

That is what the headline I mentioned was about. No old news, but breaking at the time. Of course it would have been an accident - I don't think there is any suggestion that it wasn't?

As his name is plastered everywhere i would imagine there are lots of people who know where he lived.

I know petra, but printing his address means that everybody now knows, so can join a mob targeting his family should they choose to. Stating his address added nothing to the news article other than that. He was 35 years old, not a youth, and totally responsible for his own actions.

Well said Ferry, but it’s not the world that’s dreadful just some of the people living in it.

ferry23 I don't think anybody on this thread has belittled Jews' worth, nor have they applauded what happened.

Subsequent information has somehow made the whole incident even more tragic. Rather than becoming "political", maybe we could take time to reflect and mourn.
