Gosh, when you read that, she doesn't sound quite so saintly.

A plant by the CIA. Suggested the US and Israel should invade her country. Norway is scared of the US. Maduro may be a crook and a tyrant. But The US just wants their oil. She will facilitate that if she ever gets into power. A farce. Greta should have got it.

This was for the year 2024 so Trump's claim would come next for year 2025 - as I understand it.

Far too soon in negotiations for Trump to be winning the Nobel Peace Prize. This time next year, who knows?

FranP Sat 11-Oct-25 13:52:32

The choosing process is long, so his recent activities may not have put him on the original short list, but next year...

Whether he succeeds or not, he is at least using his influence to TRY. Not the Egyptians, nor the Saudis who could have dealt with Hamas and ISIS long ago.

I think I will be unpopular when I thought his telling Zelensky that he is pretty delusional was the right thing.

Not a Trump fan for many things but you have got to admire him for this.

I had thought that if he got the prize, not only was it too early as we do not know what will happen in the weeks and months to follow, but also that Trump might have lost interest if he'd got his much longed for prize. Maybe not getting it will lead to him working hard to maintain the peace in Gaza and also try seriously for peace in Ukraine. Let us hope so. Many of us do not like him - but we are probably all in favour of peace, and Trump is very powerful, so anything which motivates him to end wars is surely welcome.

She sounds a worthy recipient. Let’s hope that Donald Trump doesn’t now lose interest in Gaza. As others say, if this peace agreement holds, and if he can bring about peace in Ukraine, and stop deploying troops in the US to enforce his policies he would be a believable candidate next year.

Yes, he would and a deserving one no matter what the world thinks of him for other things.

I am thrilled to see this. Congrats and a job well done.

I am thrilled he didn't get it
Both because he didn't deserve it and because I am sure the impending meltdown will be fun to watch.

It is probably going to make him even more mad that it was a woman from a South American country. He doesn't seem to like those. grin

As Trump's peace agreement was not completely finalised and the hostages have yet to be released, it is impossible to say that he has achieved peace.

I am sure she is worthy of the prize but I wonder if the choice of Maria Corina Machado Parisca, a democrat from South America, was a deliberate snub to Trump.

My bad, have never heard of her. Will def, read about her now.
Yes Ukraine 🇺🇦 and if he can hold together the new peace agreement in Gaza.

Cabowich Fri 10-Oct-25 10:29:12

Trump must be disappointed.

If he could only manage to achieve peace in Ukraine (and not at Ukraine's expense) then I wouldn't object if he was considered next year.

I am in the same boat Tizliz

Listening to the announcement of her as the winner, and the reasons they chose her, I was struck by the contrast with Donald Trump who thought he should get it but is moving the USA away from democracy.

Tizliz Fri 10-Oct-25 10:21:00

I realise that I don't know much about South American politics, will have to read up about her

Maria Parisca for promoting democratic rights in Venezuela.
