It’s very unlikely that civilians will be guarding a stash of weapons so it’s entirely up to Hamas if it wants to have more of its fighters killed. Their choice.
Whether they count as innocent is a different question.

I have no idea Casdon. At a guess American equipment will be well in advance of anything Hamas has. Trump did more or less suggest that he wasn’t going to be messed around. Very quietly too.

Apparently America has top notch weapons but the problem used to be that the military didn’t always have the best training in their use. Perhaps it’s changed now?

A Ceasefire is a start, that is an end to military hostilities but not a guarantee of enduring peace. There is yet so much to be negotiated and agreed. There was a ceasefire earlier this year. It started on 19 January and lasted to 18 March when hostilities resumed.

This ceasefire does feel different for a variety of reasons. Handover of hostages is an early first important step but not yet finished. Israel has said one of the dead hostages handed over last night "does not match any of the hostages" and threatened to halve the expected flow of aid into Gaza Strip. The Nasser Medical Complex in southern Gaza yesterday said none of the 45 bodies of dead hostages they had received from Israel had been identified and that they had arrived at the facility with their hands and legs cuffed. Sensitivities run high and trust on both sides at this early stage is being tested. Stability is fragile.

I hope this early, fraught hostage handover stage can be finalised and agreed by both sides so negotiations can begin on all other issues.

The way I heard it, Hamas doesn’t need to agree to relinquish weapons. Strange I know. I am just hoping this doesn’t mean a full attack by combined forces to destroy weapons. Hamas just has to….

Despite Trump's assurances that Hamas will surrender their arms I don't believe everyone is as in awe of him as he thinks.
They have not agreed this part of the peace plan yet.

It has been said before, but I'll say it again. Peace is more than just the absence of war. There will be several stages to establishing peace and stability in Palestine, let alone the rest of the Middle East (which is needed if the region is not to disappear under mountains of ruined buildings and lives), and this is only the first phase. I am not denying that this is a step forward, but there is many a slip between cup and lip, and Trump's hunger for the NPP won't on its own achieve peace. there also needs to be patience, integrity and steadfast attention to the details of the goal. I am not convinced that Trump's attention span will be enough for that. He needs advisors with integrity, skilled in their own departments and in managing his weaknesses as well.

I am warming to Trump. He has said in the most understated and gentle way that Hamas will disarm. What style. Let’s not be too hasty for the night is young and there’s a lot at stake.
