A wonderful morning, the Israeli hostages are now free! Seven already back in Israel and another thirteen on the way.The image of the Berman twins embracing after their two years in captivity is so moving.
Am so happy today for both the hostages and their families and friends.😃

Not commenting on people's views, but I hadn't noticed you were either emotional or ranting, ronib. 🤔
Unless the meaning of that has changed.

ronib Tue 14-Oct-25 18:04:02

I will be soon Allira it’s one of those days. But thank you…

Not sure how it works with the UN peacekeeping forces, GG. Not sure how much they are allowed to 'intervene'

Maremia Tue 14-Oct-25 18:08:14

It will be tense, while we wait and, as Allira, says hope.

They are armed, and their mandate is different depending on situations as is NATO.

Thanks GG.

*growstuff*my emotional ranting!? if you wish was caused by your seeming approval of a government without a legitimate mandate.
Hamas has just executed 8 people today. Is this lawful governance? I think not.

No one knows how involved the Arab countries are with Hamas. But there’s involvement.

I deal with facts.

No, it hasn't but accusing people of things they haven't said and wild speculating counts as ranting in my book.

There is nearly always a period like this after the end of any war, before some kind of governance is put in place to restore order. Sometimes it persists. Look at Sudan and Syria for a start.

Unfortunately I think that lawlessness is what is going to happen in Gaza, growstuff

I cannot see the UN or NATO putting peace keeping boots on the ground any time soon.

There are already signs of infighting between Hamas and other gangs.

I am really trying to be optimistic, but…

I fear you're right GrannyGravy. While Trump is revelling in glory, there is an awful lot of hard work to be done to install some kind of power in Gaza. Meanwhile, people need to be fed and Hamas controls the only kind of organisation to distribute the aid and to control the criminal gangs. They won't last long, but it's all Gaza has at the moment.

Galaxy Tue 14-Oct-25 18:51:37

Yes that is the problem when dealing with a brutal terrorist regime.

ronib Tue 14-Oct-25 19:00:09

The Wiki is a good source of information on which countries have supported Hamas. Wild speculation? growstuff

Don't forget to include Israel, it suited the Israeli govt to have a strong Hamas as a counter balance to Fatah. Netanyahu has been recorded saying this to Likud members.

ronib Tue 14-Oct-25 19:24:39

Well we all make mistakes foxie48 and I doubt Netanyahu will be saying this now. It just shows how very outsmarted he has been.

AGAA4 Tue 14-Oct-25 19:54:19

The Red Cross are heading to Gaza to collect more of the deceased hostages.
Israel have closed the Rafah crossing so aid is now unable to get through.
This because only 4 deceased hostages were returned.

Hamas agreed to return all remaining hostages, either alive or their remains, it was an integral part of the first step of 20.

This is on Hamas’s head not Israel’s

AGAA4 Tue 14-Oct-25 20:10:05

Deliberately stopping aid is against international law whatever you think of Hamas.

I've never made a mistake that resulted in 1,000s of innocent people being killed and if I did, I'd own up to it. Netanyahu deliberately allowed Hamas to become stronger for his own political aims and has furthered a war with terrible consequences for his own political survival. So many people on both sides have lost their lives, their homes, their families and for what? So that Netanyahu can stay out of prison. Some mistake!

Oreo Tue 14-Oct-25 20:47:28

Victim blaming much foxie48 !

Oreo Tue 14-Oct-25 20:49:48

BN and government thought it best at the time to give support to hamas to lesson the power of the PA.Checks and balances.
Nobody can predict the future and how things will turn out.

Exactly!

Simplistic interpretations aren't necessarily accurate.

Oreo Tue 14-Oct-25 20:52:45

The hostages have said they were nearly always kept in tunnels.
Hamas and the splinter terrorist groups who murdered hostages must know where more remains are as they valued even the dead as bargaining chips.

Oreo Tue 14-Oct-25 20:55:16

ronibothers ranting and accusing you of ranting is so funny, just ignore it.wink

I think it’s obvious what people think of hamas, they’re swine.
Reneging on the deal by not returning the dead has consequences. The people will turn on them, wait and see.

AGAA4 Tue 14-Oct-25 20:58:05

The Israeli military have said four more deceased hostages have been handed to the Red Cross. Some more poor families can have their loved ones back.

AGAA4 Tue 14-Oct-25 21:00:35

Some of the people already have turned on them Oreo.
