Louvre closed after ‘masked thieves break into museum using chainsaw’ and steal ‘priceless’ jewellery.

Oooh dear, where was security?

And the French are worried about us looking after the precious Bayeux Tapestry!

Guess what was delivered to my porch this morning?
How opportune!

Allira Tue 21-Oct-25 11:04:28

I'll expect to see you in Tatler, wearing remodelled versions of the jewels!

24 hours on, nothing. Don't they say it gets more difficult to catch anyone as time goes by?

I've scanned the French papers this morning and they seem rather embarrassed! They appear to be talking in depth about anything other than the heist, because there's nothing to go on!

One can't help thinking that if this had been in London, our police would be putting out public appeals and showing more film of the robbers getting away?

I have to say, those pieces are very beautiful. But not really the stuff you'd wear down the street or in Sainsburys Carrefour.

Oh I don’t know, I always wear my pearls and tiara when roaming around Bon Marche.🤔Doesn’t everyone?

Only when I go to Patisserie Valerie.

Did you see the picture of the burly robber sawing open the cabinet? He's hardly what I'd call a nifty, agile cat burglar!
Looks like he'd had quite a few croissants for breakfast!

NotSpaghetti Tue 21-Oct-25 10:01:56

I think it's quite common to pose as workmen.
The more big stuff (like diggers or latters) probably the better.

The nerve of them though!

That huge ladder, the yellow high-viz jackets - a jewellery heist of the Crown Jewels in plain sight.

Yes, it is shocking but you have to admire their audacity!

I wonder if this was done to order?

I agree, I do have a sneaking admiration for the chutzpah!

Yes, Limoges theft was apparently €9.5 million.

Allira Mon 20-Oct-25 22:26:56

It's not the only robbery from French museums recenty, apparently.

Gold has been stolen from the National Museum of Natural History and porcelain worth £millions from the Limoges Museum.

Oh dear, -

In France Macron is often referred to as le petit roi. 🤴 So he would need the jewels!

Allira Mon 20-Oct-25 14:43:59

Oh dear, DH -

"Well, it's not as if they're needed any more"

I confess to laughing out loud when listening to the news yesterday, I particularly enjoyed the classic calm bbc voice referring to it as a Heist

There’s a cracking film to be made

Casdon Mon 20-Oct-25 10:45:23

I hate to see priceless jewellery stolen, because the unscrupulous can have it remodelled and sell it on, unlike most other artefacts it can be permanently lost to the nation.

But the Louvre was open so not so wild a concept, surely?

But not via the huge great ladder parked outside!

Putting up early Christmas decorations? 🎄🎄

Did you see the television pictures though? It looked completely out of place.

😂. We are a shocking lot being so entertained by a robber - heist makes it sound like the Italian Job
