Louvre closed after ‘masked thieves break into museum using chainsaw’ and steal ‘priceless’ jewellery.

Oooh dear, where was security?

And the French are worried about us looking after the precious Bayeux Tapestry!

Def a case for Inspector Clouseau, and if he’s too busy then maybe Inspector Gadget is free.🤭

Moi? Maybe.
The Culture Minister did say it was all very professional, so who knows!?

My alibi is that I was on Gransnet at 8.30 am BST.

That's what they all say escaped AI can do wonders now. Can yo send me some of that jewellery. A necklace would do ?

GrannyGravy13 Sun 19-Oct-25 16:06:09

I think the jewellery (equivalent of our Crown Jewels) has been stolen for someone’s private collection.

Or maybe it will be broken up and several pieces end up in several private collections?

The irony is that the Louvre is just a few minutes away from the Police Headquarters in Paris. That's a bit like robbers in Westminster Abbey being 4 minutes away from New Scotland Yard and making off with the Coronation Chair.
Well, almost!

I bet they’re caught soon. It seems thieves are often very good at carrying out the actual crime but not so clever at what comes afterwards. Let’s see.

Apparently tiny chain saws and escaped on a scooter 🛵 or 🛴 .....

Flippinheck Sun 19-Oct-25 20:17:52

Why am I finding this so very funny? 🤣

24 hours on, nothing. Don't they say it gets more difficult to catch anyone as time goes by?

I've scanned the French papers this morning and they seem rather embarrassed! They appear to be talking in depth about anything other than the heist, because there's nothing to go on!

One can't help thinking that if this had been in London, our police would be putting out public appeals and showing more film of the robbers getting away?

I have to say, those pieces are very beautiful. But not really the stuff you'd wear down the street or in Sainsburys Carrefour.

Don’t believe everything you see on tv.
In the real world it’s very different.
I might be wrong in this case but they did the classic robbery. Broad daylight, hi viz jackets, ladders, chain saw. Who was going to question them 🤷‍♀️

I think people would question it on a Sunday morning. Vanishingly unlikely they would be working. This is France you know. 😂

But the Louvre was open so not so wild a concept, surely?

Iam64 Mon 20-Oct-25 08:24:53

I confess to laughing out loud when listening to the news yesterday, I particularly enjoyed the classic calm bbc voice referring to it as a Heist

There’s a cracking film to be made

escaped Mon 20-Oct-25 08:43:07

And the sheepish apology on the Louvre website this morning that they might be a little late opening today!

Iam64 Mon 20-Oct-25 08:52:35

😂. We are a shocking lot being so entertained by a robber - heist makes it sound like the Italian Job

But not via the huge great ladder parked outside!

Did you see the television pictures though? It looked completely out of place.

I did think the angle was a bit strange. Like something DGS age 4 puts together with his playmobil toys! 🚒
