Big U turn tonight from the Police who now say there ARE grooming gangs in London despite Sadiq Khan saying otherwise. Should have listened to Maggie Oliver. 😉

This needs updating but explains some of it

No wonder the slimeball kept refusing to answer Susan Hall when she kept on asking him the question.. He had the cheek to sit there actually smirking saying to her “I don't know, what is a grooming gang”? How this man still has a job is beyond me..

I saw this on You Tube, it was disgraceful. He was trying to make her say Pakistani grooming gangs and implying she was racist. She just kept saying Grooming Gangs. He made himself look very nasty indeed.

He is a disgrace, he never answers questions and London has deteriorated under his mayorship. When I called him an odious man on another thread I was shouted down by ‘he has been voted in three times so the he must be doing something right”.

No, if you read it again it says: (in other words)
one of the victims point out to Maggie Oliver that a senior police officer was also one if her rapists..

Its not a question of him being wrong, its more the fact that he has been found out to be a liar, he did know and he’s had it covered up..And also the whole emissions scam, all the things he brought into play have been proved to be a waste of time, and its made no difference to the air quality, and no surprise that was covered up as well..

Every reasonably large town and city has grooming gangs that prey on vulnerable young people. This has been going on for decades. I remember this happening in the 1970s when I worked in education and social care. All children's residential homes have gangs circling round them like sharks. All ethnicities of men are involved. In the 1980s and 1990s Eastern Europeans were heavily represented alongside white British men. They pretended to befriend the young people, both boys and girls, and would showered them with gifts before reeling them in often with the use of drugs. The young people are often desperate for any kind of affection and don't realise what is happening until it is too late.

Plus Jess Phillips has worked tirelessly for women and domestic violence victims ! There is a lot of speculation here !

Did you see/hear her response on the H of P yesterday?

Three of the victims have said she is accusing them of lying and once again all their previous trauma of not being believed is revisited.

Oreo Wed 22-Oct-25 16:24:13

Well said Siptree it needs separate investigation/research as you say.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 22-Oct-25 16:23:12

Susieq62 nobody is denying that there are other heinous people around, nor that the Conservatives did not act quick enough after the report they commissioned was published.

This thread is about the Asian (predominantly Pakistani) grooming gangs, both in the North of the country and now identified in the London area.

I will be interested to see if they come up with a truly impartial Chair sometime soon. How hard can it be?

It is really quite important to understand that all victims of abuse deserve justice. It's also important to understand the dynamics that lead to abuse and to the serious negligence on the part of those investigating such crimes. However, unless we understand that there are different reasons abuse takes place and under different circumstances satisfactory conclusions won't be reached. Grooming gangs and domestic abusers are all misogynistic but it is more complicated when groups of men gang together to organise and perpetrate abuse and possibly financially gain from it. This enquiry needs to be about grooming gangs. Another investigation or government research is needed for domestic abuse. I have seen DA and coercive control perpetrated on one granddaughter. I saw another granddaughter recognise an attempt to treat her like this because of what happen to her sister and get out quick. Believe it or not I saw a girl attempt this behaviour on my 16 year old grandson,he was bombarded with emails and texts which served as evidence as school helped to stop it and get get mental health treatment for the girl. The grandsons mother works in the field of DA and he recognised his mum would call what was happening to him as coercive control. So it's not always men and misogyny, even though it almost always is.

I think the most extremely infuriating thing about the grooming gangs inquiry is that not only is it going to be a cover up, but that everybody has always known it is going to be a cover up, and even when people have quite frankly said, very publicly "this is absolutely not going to be a cover up", it is still going to be a cover up.

Labour will be getting the boot at the next election, and rightly so.

So if you know everything, why don't you come up with something proactive and positive rather than clucking around like Henny Penny?

Why do you feel the need to be so rude?

Susieq62 Wed 22-Oct-25 16:17:54

Willow thank you for sensible rhetoric
There is a platform here about Asian gangs! I live in Bradford so totally aware of the issues ! However, there are white perpetrators as well! Let us not forget that fact !
The Tories did NOTHING for 14 years despite knowledge of said abuse ! Stop throwing everything at Labour’s door as is the want of many in GN
Nanna 8 there are gangs in Iz as well and many misogynistic men! I know, I have lived there!!!

Who in their right minds conceived of a plan to put an ex police man and Labour Party member up as a candidate in the first place?

All the thousands of pounds wasted on this attempted appointment so far.

Personally I’d put a respected retired officer from the Army or Royal Navy as Chair in this inquiry.

Maggie Oliver should be commissioned to head the whole investigation, she is knowledgeable, thorough and has integrity. A fantastic lady, where is her knighthood?

Maggie Oliver wouldn’t be seen as independent.
Plus the fact that she’s extremely busy with her charity.

Yes, it's a shame. Unfortunately, it's nor going to be as easy as some people seem to think to find somebody suitable.

petra We're evens now wink. At least we asked for clarification rather than barging in after misunderstanding, which is so easy online.

It’s not rocket science, is it. 🤷‍♀️

I think this is going to blow up in Starmer’s face to be honest.

What you mean is that you hope it does.

Excellent post TerriBull

Jess Phillips gives the impression of being more concerned with hanging on to her position than with addressing the climate that allowed what was done to these survivors.

Agree,
Jess Phillips is an MP in a Birmingham ward and am wondering if she’s been leant on there by councillors and business leaders and others who resent any focus on Pakistani heritage men being under scrutiny?
If she was an MP in Hampshire or Surrey would things be different?

These are my thoughts exactly. Labour is protecting its Asian vote.

How? What exactly is it doing? Rather than coming out with these accusations, some details would be good. I assume you have some proof.
