Because that's where the lamp post are?

Concise and to the point 😄
Anyway why wouldn’t Indian restaurants and Chinese takeaways which are on a street in Britain not want to see a Union flag? They live happily in Britain don’t they.

All the flags Reform sponsored a couple of months ago have vanished everywhere I’ve been since, on motorways and dual carriageways, and in towns and villages. I imagine that the £75,000 will end up being money ill spent as the people of Nottingham decide they won’t put up with flag bombing.

As with anything you do, the 'intent' is important.
Are these flags being used to welcome, or to intimidate?

^The divisive flags of hate are being bought out of Reforms coffers.^
I very much object to union flags being described as divisive flags of hate.
It is the National flag of the United Kingdom and should be treated with respect, whatever your political views.

Don't be ridiculous, of course these flags are symbols of racism. Why else would they be positioned outside Asian and Chinese owned shops?

This does take the biscuit though!

I wonder what they spend on biscuits? 🤭

Oreo Mon 27-Oct-25 13:02:12

At least they were Union flags representing the UK.😃

This was Reform’s own money according to a poster, should be easy enough to check.
Anything not really necessary shouldn’t be bought or spent by Councils but there have been some spectacular wastes of cash in the past by very many Councils.

Maremia Mon 27-Oct-25 12:49:16

Must be wonderful to live in an area with so much surplus cash.

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 27-Oct-25 12:42:13

I suspect that their campaigning before the election didn't feature the promise " and we'll spend a load of your money on flags"

TerriBull Mon 27-Oct-25 11:22:38

Waste of money!

westendgirl Mon 27-Oct-25 11:21:50

Absolutely ridiculous . I see the Reform councillors are doing their own thing, no matter what they said they would do.I'm sure that people's taxes are needed for more important things.
Does Farage know ?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 27-Oct-25 11:12:44

I don’t mind people buying their own flags at all. I just think Councils ought to be more mindful of what they spend their budgets on.

BlueBelle Mon 27-Oct-25 11:05:52

It’s a nightmare here, we have a man on a mission, the next town to us is a reform foothold and don’t we suffer. The divisive flags of hate are being bought out of Reforms coffers
(I am told) and flying everywhere In the roads where there are few flying they have been positioned outside Asian owned shops Chinese and Indian restaurants I am so ashamed of my country and flag at the moment and very very sad

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 27-Oct-25 11:03:06

Seems daft to me.

M0nica Mon 27-Oct-25 10:59:12

I thought Reform were going to go through council budgets cutting out all unnecessary expenditure - like this!

dragonfly46 Mon 27-Oct-25 10:43:40

Surely there are better ways to spend council money.
