Anyone else impressed by Danny Kruger?
(205 Posts)I made it very clear in my post, alleged by you Allira to have non sequiturs, that 64% of old people voted to Leave the EU.
yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/15796-how-britain-voted
My arithmetic takes account of that.
No, there is no way of knowing whether the millions of people who have died since 2016 voted to Leave. We could say that 100% of the old people who have died since then voted Leave or we could say that 0% did. The sensible percentage would be 64% based on the You Gov poll.
Pollster Peter Kellner agreed the Brexit majority would be wiped out by the time the UK left the UK:

Nor did I claim that old people are bigoted, racist and homophobic. Do not write that I said things that I did not.
What I said was that 64% of old people voted to Leave the EU and that young voters are likely to think and voted differently.
Why else are the polls showing so little support for Reform and so much support for the Greens?
Only 9% of young people voted for Reform in the GE. The party is not polling any differently with them now.

Oops Allira apologies! Typo. Mea culpa.
It's ok, I retired years ago 😁
If I was in conversation with a pro-trump person (it hasn’t happened yet!) I would simply point out the man’s personality (no empathy, tact or diplomacy), his inability to speak in coherent sentences, the fact he wants to re-start nuclear testing and finally his obvious dislike of educated women. Listen to some of his comments to women journalists. Finally, he is a felon, a proven liar and a bully. This is the person Farage admires.
Unless he was on one of the Committees, I doubt very much if he's ever scrutinised any of the civil service accounts.

Kruger was a Tory MP I’m sure he has some knowledge of how the CS operates.
Why should he? He probably had very minimal contact with the civil service.

A huge cost are the rent of office buildings whilst staff work from home. I’m sure great savings can be made overall.
Sell the council offices! That's what my local council is doing. That's not rocket science.

I doubt if Kruger has the faintest idea how the civil service operates. If he were ever to get anywhere near reorganising it, he'd run into the same kind of difficulties that Reform councils are, ie, the idea of waste is largely illusory.

The Civil Service grew exponentially during Covid. Cuts are necessary back to pre-pandemic levels. Kruger is spot on. It is amazing isn't it that at a time when Britain ruled over three quarters of the globe the CS that ran it did so with paper and quill - it was was miniscule by comparison to today's huge manpower.
And today we have computers to aid evil servants in their task. However these modern aids have merely served to increase bureaucracy to a level where nothing is achieved except the production of ever grander reports for ever more committees to consider.
Time to get the knife out and start cutting. as Kruger said.
I assume you do realise that the biggest cause of the increase in civil servant numbers was Brexit. The UK is now having to do the work previously done by bureaucrats in Brussels plus unpicking legal systems and repatriating them requires extra staff.
Interesting article PaynesGray. His ideas are those of somebody aspiring to be a Poundand Nietzsche.
Are they similar to evil geniuses?🤪
Oops Allira apologies! Typo. Mea culpa.
And … sometimes chatting with friends or neighbours, someone will throw into the conversation something about Trump in a negative way. Everyone laughs and agrees - except me. I ask the accuser if it is the outcomes or the methods they particularly dislike. The panic on their faces as they actually have to think and articulate their particular grievance is hilarious.
evil servants 😲
I was one of those what you call evil servants FGT2

^By 2029, 13 years on, some 8 million older voters will have died, replaced by younger voters, a generation which holds very different values to that of its grandparents, not least on Europe and LGBT.^
Danny Kruger does not speak for “British people”. He speaks for his own bigoted, regressive views and those of the tribe he had now adopted.
Some non-sequiturs in that post PsynesGrey
Not all old people voted to leave the EU.
There is no way of knowing exactly how those who have died since then did vote.
Danny Kruger, with his vile, bigoted views, is himself only 51. Some of the new Reform Councillors are only teenagers or in their 20s. Tommy Robinson is 42.
Trying to claim old people are bigoted, racist and homophobic is ageist.
No, not all old people voted to leave the EU. However, there have been many surveys/polls which showed that people were more likely to have voted to leave as they aged. The 50/50 point was (I believe) about 65.
It stands to reason that older people are more likely to die than younger people. It's known how many people die every year, so it's not difficult to work out how many people over 45 will have died in 13 years. Admittedly, it's not possible to work out whether an individual Brexit voter had died, but it is possible to work with averages.
If a claim were to be made that all old people are bigoted and racist, it would be ageist, but that's not what is claimed.
Admittedly, some Reform councillors are very young (and not up to the job), but all polls show that Reform voters tend to be older.

I’m not.
I do.

Each to their own, dear!!

But, does Fried really 'admire' these ghastly men?
I think she is just having a bit of a wind up.
There are goady posters on here, but I do not think Friedgreentomatoes2 is a deliberate goader.
Just because someone expresses different opinions to others on Gransnet does not mean they are indulging in a wind up.
Different opinions are allowed.
Goading is not so welcome. Nor are personal attacks and deliberate twisting of others' posts.
Or … I’m not. I do?
😂

Sorry folks!!!!!!!!
Double post!!!!!
