As I said upthread, LibDems have the seat in their sights for 2029. Reform is waning in the polls. People who care about democracy need to do what the people of Caerphilly did last week and vote to keep these people out of government. My gut feeling is that either Farage will be gone by 2029, either abroad or to jail. But he and Kruger will fall out long before that.

He has become our MP. We had no say in the matter.

I hadn’t really registered him, which was because he was a bit of a nonentity as an MP, who has only gained prominence since the walk of shame by defection. I can’t respect anybody who defects mid term, regardless of which party they are from and which they defect to, I see them as political lightweights.

For that alone he should be punished.

What's being suggested here are huge structural changes from a bunch of people who would have had have no experience of government and yet want to tear it all down and start again. Farage says he wants to bring in unelected people to be cabinet members - the obvious names Zia Yusuf, who bought his way into Reform and Arron Banks, the self professed bad boy of Brexit and possibly Christopher Harborne who owns Farage. The end of democracy. Heaven help us all.

He nearly got caught saying the B word on this morning's Today programme. He was explaining how Reform plan to shift civil servants out of London and dramatically reduce numbers but not wanting to say why the numbers grew so high.

We now have over half a million civil servants working for central government. It’s gone up hugely since .... I’m afraid to say, in the last 10 years.

That word you didn't want to say Danny was Brexit, something you were very much instrumental in.

Did he perchance mean the civil servants who had to be employed to do the work which was done in Brussels?

He and his mother were on radio 4 recently; she believes in the right to die and he doesn’t. They spoke to many people on the subject but neither changed their mind.
I am with his mum on this, but each to their own.
As for being impressed with him? No. He-left the sinking ship to join another which I hope is going the same way.

I wasn't being snippy with you, only that his mother was becoming the focus of the thread rather than Kruger's frightening MAGA politics. I see LemonJam has got it back on track.

It struck me thaat Daniel Kruger lives in an alternative universe, a nostalgic view of a past time that never existed.

I would absolutely agree with him that we need a society where personal relationships are stable and children grow up in loving homes with their biological parents, but unless he comes up with ideas as to what policies he has in mind to help us move that way, it is all cloud cuckoo land.

Societal changes like that do not come from wishful thinking.

I do not watch cookery programmes, they bore me stiff, but it is nice to see a male MP unable to get out from under his mother's shadow. It is a change from important women unable to escape the shadow of their more famous fathers.

No I don't think Danny Kruger is wonderful. I don't buy into the political spin that he is "a breath of fresh air in politics".

He has been put in charge of developing Reform's policies and to make Reform fit to govern. He admits he will use Trump's template and adapt for Reform- which alarms me. He openly admits his first policy would be for Reform to take a DOGE approach (deep slash/cut and burn structural changes to the current system- think Elon Musk if you must), first up cutting civil servants. Further he specifically wants to bring civil servants under government rule and the government to have full rights to hire and fire civil servants. We've seen Trump seek to control the US judiciary by hiring his partisan judges. The result is enormous government authoritarian power. Look how Trump has so quickly built his authoritarian power not only over the judiciary but also ICE, universities, the military etc- all now being enforced to bend to Trump's will and force. Do we really want that in UK?

Kruger also states he will rewrite the ministerial code to remove the obligation to obey international law. He states the 'DEI woke agenda will be in contravention" of his new ministerial code. What does that actually mean? That the Reform ministerial code will prevent inclusion, diversity and equality entirely? Will automatically opt out of ECHR? Worryingly he also states that Reform will not allow the House of Lords to "obstruct legislation by Parliament". So in essence if Reform are in government they will be able to pass whatever and all laws they wish without the need for scrutiny/ debate/ and the checks and balances of the HoL- stark authoritarian power.

Reform overtly will seek to building authoritarian government power over police- judiciary, universities, healthcare, etc. just as Trump is doing in USA enabling it to cut and slash public spending/shrink the state and to enable government authoritarian power and greater financial rewards to the rich and powerful.

Reform may seek to portray it is the party for the people, just as Trump did, but once in office will develop policies and power similar to US. How is that going for the ordinary US citizen, universities, healthcare, schools, women's abortion rights, free speech, civil order etc in the USA?

Danny Kruger is a breath of fresh air? No not for me. Instead I seem as the architect seeking to build Reform polices overtly to build political authoritarian, government corruption and civil unrest, as is growing in the US.

I look at the impact of Trump's policies on USA since January and shudder. No I am not very impressed by him so far judging on his announcements today.
