Inverness and Sussex
This is KS’s latest idea.
What do you think?
Better than hotels?
Worse than hotels?
Why do you think he’s doing it?

No it's not. Who are these thousands of people arriving on the rubber boats? Why come here?

Yes, it is! Globally, the majority of asylum seekers don't come to the UK, so your question uses a false premise.

Even if Globally, the majority of asylum seekers don't come to the UK, as Aveline said, thousands still do so I don't understand what you mean by false premise.

Could you explain please.

I don't think they have a clue how to solve this. Being in camps will be no different. They will complain. The locals will complain. Girls will get raped and locals upset.

Here we go again. Being an irregular migrant means girls will get raped.

Actually I will report this, it is a vile and gross generalisation, and ask them to delete this to if they delete that.

"Irregular migrants" ?? So they are now "irregular" instead of "illegal"?
Let's be clear - when they enter our country "illegally", they are breaking the law, no ifs, no buts.
Don't try to water down the term "illegal immigrants" - because that's exactly what they are - illegal.

It annoys me when pro immigrants say asylum seekers are housed in sub standard accommodation.

On the outskirts of Dublin there is a beautiful hotel with stunning grounds, a lake etc. it now houses over 2,100 asylum seekers. Local residents are unhappy and protesting.

Mollygo Wed 29-Oct-25 11:44:10

As of late October 2025, approximately 37,000 people have arrived in the UK in small boats this year, a number that is slightly higher than last year's total. The first half of the year saw about 19,982 crossings.
Do they not count 1000s?

Why come here though? Why come through several safe countries to get here? Why destroy papers? So many questions that could be answered.

Most asylum seekers don't come to the UK, so the question is a red herring.

Reasons to come here, (rather than another country they passed through ) include

Because they have family or contacts in UK

Because English is a global language they can understand and speak

Because our global colonial past and history promoted the notion that Britain is a beacon protector of safety, civilisation and justice and a land of opportunity.

Or perhaps as they passed through other european countries they encountered so much aggression and racism they just kept going in desperation.

Maybe we're not so much eldorado, as the end of the line, the last resort.

Aveline Wed 29-Oct-25 12:10:14

They also seem to be fed a lot of misinformation about being housed, fed and given benefits and access to education etc. Sold a view of Eldorado. That needs to be stopped.

It annoys you on the basis of you identifying one specific hotel Primrose? That is not a rational annoyance, perhaps it would be if that level of accommodation was provided for all, but it isn’t, particularly as Dublin isn’t even in the UK.

I understand that under international law, we are obliged to provide the basics for these people but it should be exactly that.....the basics. They should be kept as near as possible to the point of entry....namely Dover, and housed in a large warehouse, aircraft hangar, or something of that nature. Putting them in hotels should never have been the policy.

Putting them in hotels was Conservative Party policy, though. So why are Labour getting the blame for everything?

Well, that rules out Inverness.! It's not possible to be that much further from Dover and still be in Great Britain.

Because people think others are stupid/have short memories and love to pick holes without having any viable solutions themselves.

Maybe because the cornerstone of Labour’s electioneering was Smash the Gangs

They thought they’d come in, snap their fingers and hey ho sorted. Unfortunately they have realised that being in opposition and opposing everything is far easier than being in Government.

Labour have constantly said they will stop using hotels by the end of this parliament, however, on the news this morning it was said that they are tendering 10yr contracts for hotels to house migrants 🤷‍♀️

We all know that it was the Conservatives that started using hotels.

Because Labour are not reducing the number of hotels as they claimed.
Instead of lowering the number of hotel facilities that are being used, the most recent numbers reveal that there is an 8 percent increase in hotel use, with over 32,000 migrants in the UK staying in hotels at the end of June.

The vast majority of rapes are committed by someone the victim knows. 90,000 reported a year. The number of rapes committed by immigrants is miniscule by comparison.

Maremia Wed 29-Oct-25 13:49:05

Didn't realise it was as high as that!

Libwithattitude Wed 29-Oct-25 13:50:44

I have reported too, absolutely disgusting comment , blatantly racist

I looked this up.

Just over 70000 rates were reported last year.

There were 2200 prosecutions.

Under 2000 convictions. I’m afraid I’ve forgotten the precise numbers between looking it up and posting.

I don’t really have a point to make about that except I do like a full picture.

Good point MayBee70
The problem is, if you think something is a bad idea AND you continue to do it, it definitely makes you blameworthy.

Aveline - Are you saying that these illegal immigrants are not being housed, fed and given benefits? From what I have seen they are receiving all three of these.

Primrose53 - we also have a beautiful hotel in Copthorne West Sussex housing a huge numbers of illegal immigrants. It is not a rarity.
Look at some of the youtube videos of some of these hotels and brand new apartment buildings. They have notice boards of how to get doctors/dentists appointments, taxi transport and other information on help that is available to them.
It is not a fallacy as some on here would claim

Maremia Wed 29-Oct-25 14:04:57

Still too high though, and the amount of prosecutions. Dreadful.

Aveline Wed 29-Oct-25 14:13:09

sundowngirl my point is that potential migrants should not be told that UK is an Eldorado. They should be shown pics of army barracks and canteens.

sundowngirl Wed 29-Oct-25 14:20:04

But 32,000 are not in army barracks and canteens. Why should the people smugglers show them pictures which are factually incorrect?

The hotel pictures I've seen are dumps! I do know of a couple of hotels where asylum seekers are housed and I wouldn't want to stay there. The Bell in Epping was one of them.
