The man formerly known as Prince can fall no further....
(798 Posts)Breaking news is that Andrew will now be Andrew Mountbatten - Windsor, his title is no longer, and he will move out of Royal Lodge.
Lady Victoria Harvey an ex girlfriend suggested that Andrew would not have agreed to be interviewed by Emily Maitlis if he had thought he really had done something wrong. Interesting comment?
I am surprised that Andrew has had his titles, his home of many years and even his Naval medals taken away when there has been no criminal or any other kind of evidence against him other than he was a frequent guest at Epstein’s lavish parties.
As were many other people. He was a playboy with no judgement but if so has paid dearly for it.
Yes. Sad isn't it?
Whatever it takes I suppose.

If Margorie Taylor Greene keeps it up, we may get an inside look at who else needs to be investigated. I hope so. Let's take them all down. Every last one of them.
I know, wishful thinking. My only consolation is that history will not look kindly on any of these rich, spoiled, powerful men and women. Their names will always be linked to, and defiled by, Epstein. In my opinion of course.
Isn’t she the crazy congresswoman who thinks demons are everywhere and they’re really bad angels thrown out of Heaven?
"Avoidng tax" implies that they should have paid it but didn't. In reality it is the other way round - they don't need to pay tax, but they do.
The facts are that the sovereign and heir were NOT legally obliged to pay any tax, but they chose to pay it on their private incomes. The Sovereign's Grant is not taxed, because it is the official costs of the running of the household and working expenses of the head of state - which are a state expense, not a private one.
The spending of the Sovereign's Grant is published for all to see. www.gov.uk/government/collections/sovereign-grant-accounts
Any payment evasion is not limited to the well off. Even politicians do it, as we have seen, though that always just accidental errors.
Once again, it was the power of the press that highlighted the anomaly that the Queen and heir did not pay tax. Just like the business of Andrew, they chose to do pay some tax voluntarily so as not to lose the support of the public in keeping a monarchy rather than a republic. From memory, they don't pay all the taxes the public do but enough to keep them sweet.

The Queen was caught avoiding tax in the millions?
It doesn’t matter whether it’s legal when people who work at B&M for example have to pay towards their wealth and upkeep
We have a different opinion and I’m not going to change mine
i am not dealing with opinion. I am dealing in fact. Only the monarch and heir are exempt from tax, and they choose to pay it voluntarily. The rest of the members of the royal family pay tax as we do. Since 'us' includes people who mke mistakes incalculating tax, choose to deceive or fail to pay tax the royals are much the same as the rest of us.
Plenty of people at the bottom of the wage range who work 'on the black' or would prefer payment in cash. Tax evasion is not limited to the well off.

Are you referring to Queen Elizabeth II ?
Queen Elizabeth II was not legally obligated to pay income tax, but she voluntarily chose to do so on her private income, including from the Duchy of Lancaster. This arrangement was continued by King Charles III.

The King and Prince of Wales voluntarily pay income tax and capital gains tax on their private income.
No other members of the royal family are tax exempt and they pay tax in exactly the waay we do.
That’s not going to be popular with those who are determined it’s not so.

When working people are paying for them and can’t feed themselves to pay for a family that avoids taxation and is completely capable of providing for themselves. Some might call that vulgar

I don't think the country needs the royal family so I am not sure how to answer that. Lots of people think differently obviously.
The country doesn't need a lot of things that some like and some don’t, but they aren’t going to disappear because of that.

The strength of public feeling following the death of Diana ?
The same now, hysteria whipped up by the press.
‘Your country needs you ma’am ‘, rubbish, why did the country need the Queen ?

Justice certainly, but only from one person?
He deserves punishment, yes.
We’ve watched punishments pile on over the last few weeks and there are more to come.
But how is it justice to just punish one person?
How is it justice to add more and more punishments?
And how is it justice to judge condemn and convict by social media?
But evidently GN’s think that’s OK.
Who else would you like to see punished Mollygo?
And I'm not sure that his punishments are meant to be justice.
He has brought a lot of shame on the Royal Family - ergo the UK. His brother is Head of State and given that news of his (AMW) rather shady dealings and dodgy friendships have been coming thick and fast in recent times then I cannot see how the King could have done anything else.
The man in the street is quite entitled to feel aggrieved about misappropriation of public funds, quite apart from anything else. Given the strength of public feeling following the death of Diana, the King knew he had to act decisively to stem hostility toward the Royal Family.

For those who are, like Maremia, wanting to see justice for all the victims, this Talk TV interview with the lawyer who is representing 27 of them is worth a watch.

Not really interested in them. Would like to see justice for all of the victims.

Doesn’t Andrew get up in exactly the same way as Virginia Giuffre’s husband and brother? Interesting how the close family is suddenly exempt from all responsibility.
Regardless if my opinion on the Andrew stuff, you’ve got a good point there.
Seems like they’re using VG as a cash cow now. Where was their support before?
I would have thought their responsibility if there is any, would be far greater.
