Will the Israeli government be investigated for war crimes?

"A classified report by a U.S. government watchdog has found that Israeli military units committed “many hundreds” of potential violations of U.S. human rights law in the Gaza Strip that would take the State Department “multiple years” to review, according to two U.S. officials who relayed the details to The Washington Post.

The findings by the State Department’s Office of Inspector General mark the first time a U.S. government report has acknowledged the scale of Israeli actions in Gaza that fall under the purview of Leahy Laws, the landmark legislation that bars U.S. security assistance to foreign military units credibly accused of gross human rights abuses.

U.S. officials, who discussed details of the report on the condition of anonymity because the contents were classified, said the watchdog findings raised doubts about the prospects for accountability for Israel’s actions given the large backlog of incidents and the nature of the review process, which is deferential to the Israel Defense Forces."

The above was taken from today's Washington Post. tbh I don't think Netanyahu or anyone else will be properly investigated, what do you think?

AGAA4 Wed 05-Nov-25 16:43:28

I think Palestinians just have to be there to be shot. The fact that they stopped the ambulance shows how evil they are.

Maremia Wed 05-Nov-25 16:38:00

Meanwhile exclusive gated communities a foreign land?
Great for some. They say Cyprus is beautiful.

Maremia Wed 05-Nov-25 16:36:06

What do you think he was doing, Oreo? It was his home town.
No matter what he was or wasn't doing, the ambulance was delayed by the Israeli forces?
That is malign.

According to Palestinians around him ( this story) of course they’re going to say something similar aren’t they? Stepped out to pop to the shops.Who knows what he was really doing, but hey! Guessing you want his story to be true. The facts are that you or me or anyone other than his friends ( who just happened to be there with him at the time) don’t know what he was doing .

Presuming all these extra attacks during olive season are very deliberate. Guess they don't want the Palestinians reasserting their ownership of their own property (ie those olive trees). It is bl**dy awful and they ought to think shame on themselves for treating the rightful owners of that land this way.

What was that phrase "A land without people for a people without land" they used to use/maybe still do. Right from the very start it's been necessary to say "They ain't telling it like it is....they're telling it like they'd like it to be".

West Bank.

A boy of 18 steps outside his front door to go to a shop to get a few things.

"The IDF soldiers were firing indiscriminately when they raided New Askar refugee camp in Nablus” says resident”

Sheffield Nablus Twinning Association is deeply saddened to learn of yet another tragic death of a Palestinian boy, 18 year old Mohammad Abu Hneen, by Israeli soldiers on Thursday 23rd October.

He died from a single bullet wound to the chest after he simply stepped out to buy a few necessities for his family from a nearby shop.

He succumbed to his injury early Friday morning, October 24, 2025.

Israeli occupation forces had prevented ambulances from reaching him.

His brother and several other youths from New Askar Camp had to carry Mohammad on their shoulders under a hail of bullets, desperately trying to save his life.

This is the stark reality of life for Nablus residents in the West Bank of Palestine living under Israeli military occupation

Settler attacks have also increased as fanatical Zionists drive Palestinian farmers off the land they have farmed for centuries, often with the full support of Israeli soldiers and certain leading politicians

October 2025, the time of the vital olive harvest was the most violent month since the UN began tracking settler violence in 2013.

Israel occupies the West Bank and Gaza illegally under international law and has been instructed by the International Court to immediately end its occupation.

Israel is ignoring this with apparent impunity and has even tried to pass legislation recently to formally annex the West bank and make it part of Israel.

This is a not just a criminal regime, *this is ethnic cleansing

I'd read it as the locals are not being allowed to buy in their own gated communities - ie because they arent deemed to be their own (despite being in their own country).

Oreo Wed 05-Nov-25 15:17:02

That’s just silly.
They aren’t deliberately stopping anyone from buying houses in Cyprus.
Gated communities are common in many countries.
Locals understandably worry about rising prices due to any outsiders coming in, it happens in Wales and many other places.

CariadAgain Wed 05-Nov-25 15:11:53

I hadnt got as far as clicking they are doing gated communities and deliberately stopping the Cypriots themselves from buying there!!!!!! Phwoar.....cheek!

If I were a Cypriot living in my own country I'd be scared so many of them are coming over and terrified that they were starting to shut off bits of my own country from me having access to it and watching what they're doing in Palestine even more nervously.

Oreo

Tbf all nationalities help price out the locals.

True but Israeli numbers have tripled recently due to various factors. Life in Cyprus must be much more pleasant than their homeland lately.

AGAA4 Wed 05-Nov-25 14:14:29

The problem for Cyprus is the number of Israelis buying land there and pricing out Cypriot people The establishment of gated communities is not welcome as only Israelis allowed.
The opposition party in Cyprus wants a limit on non EU people settling there.

Oreo Wed 05-Nov-25 13:57:49

On the question of Cyprus, it isn’t a strange choice for Israeli Jews to want to live there, Israel and Cyprus have many links.
The weather is good and similar to Israel and many go on holiday there as it’s near. It’s a much safer choice than living in Israel. Many people retire there of all religions and none.

Maremia Wed 05-Nov-25 13:34:23

Thanks for the link Cariad. Will catch it later.

CariadAgain Wed 05-Nov-25 09:26:58

Off to google the origin of the phrase "The truth shall set you free". Well I always knew it was going to prove an "interesting" period to live in when the Internet was invented and became widespread.........

CariadAgain Wed 05-Nov-25 09:25:04

Maremia - I put up a link - which has been censored off! - but there are a noticeable number of videos on YouTube with titles to the effect of "Why Israelis are buying up Cyprus".

So one of them reported it! But you should be able to find some to view them and find out the facts for yourself and form your own opinion on this aspect.

Interesting, thanks.

silverlining48 Tue 04-Nov-25 16:25:48

In answer to Maremia many Israelis are moving to Cyprus and also buying up large chunks of land, in both south and north Cyprus , which is where the Muslim majority live.
Cyprus is being referred to as Israel’s back yard.

Nothing will happen while HRH Donald Trump is in the White House. Netanyahu has his cartè blanche protection.

Israel many never answer in the courts for the crimes it has committed, but it answers to world opinion.

It will never recover the standing it once had with many millions of people and states.

I absolutely agree.

If some of the responsible government ministers were tried for war crimes, & jailed, it might help to rehabilitate Israel in the eyes of many.

Of course what would really help is an Israeli government committed to peace, and an autonomous Palestinian state. And not just lip-service & kicking it as many years as possible down the road as Israel have done during past peace initiatives.

I am aware of the difficulties, but it's not impossible if & when Israel accept that a two state solution is the only just solution.

Maremia Tue 04-Nov-25 15:47:35

Thanks. So by revealing the truth, she is now the accused.

AGAA4 Tue 04-Nov-25 14:48:34

Maremia

I didn't really follow what was happening with that AGAA4.
Confused about why she leaked it.
But, it's out in the world now.

I think she must have intended to leak it. Not all Israelis are happy with what their government are doing and perhaps brutality to detainees was too much for her.
