God, I feel sick to my stomach and also frightened.
What is the connection between the ( so called ) grooming gangs , Southport and this latest tragedy.
Perpetuated by males.
As far as any member of the public knows so far, there is absolutely no other connection.

As usual there were heroes putting their own lives in danger in order to try to save lives like the case of an older man shielding a young girl with his body which resulted in him getting stabbed.
My thoughts are with their loved ones and a shout out to all first responders and train crew.
Thankfully one of the best when it comes to hospitals, Addenbrookes, is close by so the victims have been taken there.
I agree

The fact that they’ll ’get the best treatment’ is not the blooming point is it.
Some of them might die, and those that don’t will be traumatized for life.Oh dear, someone always takes things the wrong way on here!
All I meant was, as they have said on various news channels, they are fortunate to be very close to Addenbrooke’s hospital which is a major centre of excellence. They were also able to be transported there rapidly so no time was lost. So it really IS the “blooming point”.Thank God that Addenbrooke's IS so near - there might have been deaths in transit. Why pile on to someone for noting a small mercy in this horrific attack? I am sure the families of those who reached hospital fast and efficiently are pleased that Addenbrooke's was built where it is and not a hundred miles away.
I agree. Addenbrookes is one of the best hospitals anywhere.
Not all hospitals will be so geared up for such emergencies and injured people might have had to travel further distances to several hospitals were it in a more remote area.
I hope all the victims recover but understand two are still fighting for their lives according to the news.
What a horrific experience for all.
This is so horrendous and reminiscent of other attacks recently that it is frightening to think of what is going on and why knife crime is on the increase.
The Government needs to act swiftly to prevent the sale of such weapons.

Yes that was what I was also trying to express.
That’s what I was contemplating upthread.
This appears to have been a planned attack by two males 🤷♀️
My thoughts about this are, firstly hopefully all the victims make a full recovery physically, although I doubt whether they will mentally. Secondly, it doesn't point to a lone wolf attack or a single person suffering from schizophrenia. Two perpetrators would suggest something orchestrated for whatever reason. I can't imagine how terrified those poor people must have been.
Primrose, that was so uncalled for. You were simply trying to be positive.
Does the communication cord still exist ? I wondered if it did, and if people pulled it, would the train have stopped automatically, possible miles from anywhere, with steep embankments and muddy fields?
Good that they had such an excellent hospital close by, and the police response was so quick; eight minutes I believe.

I agree Galaxy, it’s harder to focus your anger when you don’t know what the perpetrators rationale was.

1. When they hide what they know from the public people speculate and look for someone to blame.
2. That is why there were riots after the young girls were killed in Southport
3. People are not stupid
4. I really hope that they don’t try to hide and shield the perpetrators of this crime if only to protect others.
5. If it is a terrorist attack the public need to be warned.
What makes you think it likely that the police will hide any facts about this attack, Nanna8 ? Who do you suspect that they will protect? Is that how your crime investigation officers operate in Australia?
By ". . really hop[ing] that they don’t try to hide and shield the perpetrators of this crime if only to protect others." you sow the seed in a lot of other minds that this is exactly what is to be expected of the police force and legal system in a civilised country. That has the hallmark of a smear campaign - a dripfeed of acceptance that justice must be riddled with lies and corruption..
I actually think it is worse when it isn't designated a terrorist attack. I think at least you can form some understanding of it.
It doesn’t take brainpower to know that if you are bleeding very heavily from a stab wound, time is of the essence in getting you to a hospital where there are the skills available to attempt to repair the damage caused.
There is nothing wrong at all with us being grateful for the victims’ sake that that was the case. It doesn’t detract from the horror of what happened, but it saves lives, which is the most important thing at this point.

I’m very pleased to hear your son made a good recovery from his operation Primrose53
I have no idea why your saying that caused a pile on from some.
We all know what happened last night was horrific but you were perfectly entitled to point out that the poor victims were in a hospital with a good reputation.
Thanks. There’s always one on here who wades in and tries to pick an argument. 😉
What goes through the minds of two men in their 30’s that they come up with a plan to get on a train with the intention of stabbing as many people as possible?
This may or may not be classed as a terror attack by the police but I am 100% certain that these two individuals terrorised all who were injured or witness to the events on that train 🤬🤬🤬
I think people are just tired really. Tired of being told how amazing the response was, tired of being told how the community will come together. And of course none of that is Primroses fault.
But none of it helps.
Superintendent John Loveless said counter-terrorism police had initially supported the operation but the incident was now being treated as non-terrorism-related.
He said: “British Transport Police declared a major incident yesterday, and counter-terrorism policing were initially supporting our investigation.
“However, at this stage, there is nothing to suggest that this is a terrorist incident.

Yes Jane43 it’s more important than ever that we see the truth of these horrific acts past and present.
I’ve advised my family to see all side of a situation before making up their minds and to research research and research some more if looking for advice, facts ,or just entertainment.
Thinkng for themselves is what is needed today.

Thinking about it, I would say that for once 'lessons have been learned', following Southport. Information is released quickly about the age, ethnicity and origin of perpetrators of recent murders and attempted murders; other details follow later.
But the law remains the same, if a perpetrator is under age their personal details cannot be released, no matter how odious he was the Southport killer was under age at the time he committed the crime.
It would be interesting to know how quickly Australian Police Forces release details of suspects. I can't see how extreme haste would enhance the judicial process.
Perhaps nanna8 can enlighten us.

kittylester don't forget that other countries knew about Mrs Simpson long before the GB public did. Australians may well be better informed than us. Of course social media is international and eg that's why I heard that one of the attackers was a black man dressed in black. Police will only say he's a British national but what does that mean these days!?
That was pre 1936 Aveline! Don't you think we are more informed by all medias now? You could not, as we have seen recently, keep that out of the news now.
Aveline
Hmmmm. I don't think nanna is necessarily wrong here. Why weren't the grooming gang members arrested immediately? Because the police didn't want to be accused of racism? It's that sort of thing that creeps into public consciousness that fuels that kind of thinking. Eye witnesses have already said publicly that it was a 'black man dressed in black'. We need to know more. We need to know the truth.
The two things are not connected, they are separated by 30 years. The original grooming gangs started operating in the late 1980s and if you watch the docudrama Three Girls you will see that the girls were not believed because of the outdated attitudes of police and social workers because many of the girls were from care homes or from a working class background.
