Multiple stabbings on train Huntingdon

I did wonder why there were two, it didn’t make any sense. Not that any of it does. But surely this is just one mentally ill person to target innocent people in such a murderous way.
Two mentally ill people hellbent in a similar fashion would be strange.
I imagine the other man was just caught up in the drama.

Apparently the arrested men weren't allowed to be interviewed straight away as they were entitled to an allocated rest time beforehand.

I suppose they would have to be in some shape or form rational to be intereviewed perhaps?

It happened after the train left Peterborough. The train was diverted from the mainline to London to a branch line Huntingdon by Railway staff once the train crew raised the alarm, so the police could deal with the incident.well done railway staff.

Any group of people can riot if angry enough. History will show you that.

Black people have rioted quite a few times in recent years, I think the last mass riot was over police shooting a black man? - so it’s important to get as many details out as possible. You’d think reading some of the posts on here that only white men riot.

Riots? If (and it is a massive leap) there is a likelihood that this might lead to race riots, wouldn't it make sense to concentrate on factors other than skin colour?

Why would black people riot because of stabbings on a train? Were the victims all black? Sorry if I'm being dim (it wouldn't be the first time), but I don't follow that logic at all.

Neither do I follow the logic. It seems that some people love any excuse for a riot.

What good would any riot do in the current circumstances? What would the cause be?

There’s video now of the suspect strolling through the station brandishing a large knife and people running away down the platform screaming in fear. At one point he leaps over a fence and just carries on walking after the people.

I know we shouldn’t speculate but it is human nature to do so. I believe this will be a MH issue, much like the Nottingham one where two young students and an older man were stabbed for no reason.

Has that been verified?

Was it in Peterborough or Huntingdon? If it was Peterborough, why on earth wasn't it dealt with there and why was he allowed to board the train?

If it was Huntingdon, which was an unplanned stop, the police were waiting for him, so wasn't an attempt made to clear the station platform before the train stopped and the doors were open?

It seems a bit strange.

I actually think it would be a good idea if people learnt a bit of self-control and waited for facts before they let off steam. I've always thought that quite a British trait!

That's nonsense. Who on earth claimed that only white men riot?

The trouble here is that someone was suspected, who has now been cleared of all responsibility. He is black British (maybe of Caribbean descent). On X there are all the usual doom mongers about whites needing to defend themselves because the "others" are taking over (typical and predictable claptrap). It's even been the catalyst for another demo outside the Bell Hotel in Epping.

Is the suspect who is still being held the one with Caribbean ancestors? I'm sure it's vitally important!

It just goes to show what a load of nonsense gets spouted when there's premature speculation. (Not on GN, I might add, but X is full if Jihadist conspiracy theories.)

My thoughts are with the LNER guard who suffered life-changing injuries. I just hope he pulls through and is rewarded appropriately for his heroism.

I do understand that in today's climate it could be expedient to say they are not Muslim. That should not be the case, but we can see from this thread that there are those who will assume they are Muslim if it is not made clear (or hinted at) that this is not the case, and there are also those who can't wait to capitalise on any suggestion that immigrants are to blame.

But skin colour is neither here nor there, and whether one has Caribbean grandparents and the other's family have been British for generations isn't important either.

I think that's what I was trying to say.

We were told they are British, so they're not recently arrived migrants. I guess the difference might be that one was born in the UK and the other could have migrated to the UK as a child. I don't see that really matters. If they're guilty, I don't understand why it's important where they were born or even where their parents and ancestors were born.

Making a statement that they were British should have been enough - they can't be recently arrived migrants.

There will be a trial and I expect background details of both suspects will be made public. There might even be some details about motivation. I just don't see what is to be gained or why the public needs to know from announcements that one suspect is black and the other is black from a Caribbean background.
