Just thought it should be acknowledged here.

I'm hoping, for the sake of America that this is the start of something better for both the Democrats and the ordinary people..

Trump is vengeful. That is no way to govern a country and encourage its people to work together.
It would be stupid, too, to try to cut funds to New York, with its large population of about 8.5 million.

Oreo Wed 05-Nov-25 19:25:07

Could go either way 🤷🏼‍♀️

suelld Wed 05-Nov-25 19:24:19

Proved he can*

Oreo

Trump blusters a lot, that was just him doing the usual threatening act to get what he wanted.

Trump not only blusterers but has already proved he and SAID he hates his enemies and carries out his revenge. If he can get away with it, he will, he was already threatening to cut off funds to New York if Mamdani wins - which he has won now.
I hope things go well for Mamdani, but I am more worried about how things are going today at the Supreme Court regarding Trump‘s tariffs. The Supreme Court is known for being pro Trump, but early indications are they may be siding with the law this time. I wonder what will happen if they say his actions were illegal. Will they instruct Congress to push it through for him?

I am glad that people in New York can see the benefits of a more equal society. I don’t need to insult other people's opinions, just state my own.

Oreo Wed 05-Nov-25 19:15:33

Sadly we’re already following with the left wing radical pie in the sky Polansky.

Oreo Wed 05-Nov-25 19:14:11

No plane needed then, just a train to get to your region🤪

BlueBelle Wed 05-Nov-25 18:33:22

Hey, As an American,I can tell you that New York is extremely diverse and over populated, particularly in the City, where most of the minorities live. They have an over abundance of aliens, illegal and not and they bring their lower standards with them. Most have no money and either become parasites of the City. Most do not work and feed off of the social programs the city offers to its immigrants. The problem with New York is the immigrant and homeless issue. Many make their way to the streets to either hustle by selling things from the sidewalks or to find a place to sleep when they can’t get into a shelter. These people survive day to day and are far different than those Americans that work and contribute to the economy and actually are willing and happy to obey the law. If you visit New York City, you will be overwhelmed by the masses of people in the streets just coming and going. New Yorkers are used to this and just have come to accept much of it. Until they control poverty, homelessness, illegal aliens and gang crime, not much will get better regardless of who is mayor. If you want to live in a different non city region, go to the Midwest. It would probably be better for some of these alien settlers to go there. It is easier to settle someplace where there is better control of the social services available to them and the cost of living is much less than Nee York. As for the new Mayor, he will be better than Cuomo who already had his day and abused his power and was forced to resign in disgrace. Let the new Mayor have a chance at bringing his strong moral beliefs with him into this job. I think he is a little young for this big role but he will learn and absorb as he goes. You need to support and encourage his growth while he try’s his best to fix the problems. He has youth and energy and big dreams. I’d rather go with that than someone who has run out of steam and new ideas like Cuomo.

The tide has changed. You can feel it everywhere. People are sick to death of them and their ballroom and government shutdown. Some of what you see in the article is shocking. 30 seats in Virginia? Losses in deep red states like Mississippi.

These are statewide races, but it is 100% a vote of no confidence against republicans. 2026 Midterms will destroy the Republicans if this keeps going. And it will, as long as Trump and Johnson keep digging their heels in and refusing to work together with the Dems. I especially love that voters are not blaming Dems for the shut down. They know exactly who has caused millions to be standing in line at Food Banks that cant keep up with the demand. Hopefully this will show Congress that they are venerable and they pull their heads out of Trump's butt and do their jobs.

Near me locally, the county south of me just ousted their ENTIRE MAGA school board members and filled it back up with Moderate Dems. This is the second most conservative county in our state.

Just north of me, every single Republican was voted off the City Council. One of which is a very loud Trump groupie who was involved in the Venezuelan gang member lies with Trump. Every singe city that I have looked at in our local elections have Democrat wins.

Slow progress, but progress all the same. smile

Is Silicone Valley where they make cake trays and boob implants FGT2?

IOMGran Wed 05-Nov-25 17:12:22

Will NYC end up the drug infested basket case that is socialist Los Angeles? Tech bros moved out to Florida as crime was rampant in Silicone Valley.

Time will tell I suppose.

California receives more federal subsidies in absolute terms and provides more federal tax revenue back.

Florida receives fewer federal subsidies but is relatively more reliant on them due to lower tax contributions.

California enhances subsidies with significant state-level funding, especially for healthcare affordability.

Tech Bros go to Florida because they're mean people who don't want to pay tax. I wish the Blue states would stop subsidising the Red ones. Let them eat MAGA.

I’ve just been listening to him answering questions from the news media and kept comparing him to how Trump would be ‘speaking’.

Maremia Wed 05-Nov-25 16:57:23

It will be difficult to achieve his promises if Trump carries out his vindictive threats.
I wonder if Mamdani can tell the difference between an image of camel and a giraffe?

MaizieD Wed 05-Nov-25 14:13:10

Grantanow

He has promised a lot before being elected. I bet he won't deliver much.

That really is the fate of all political 'winners'. Execution is harder than they think. But I'm sure he'll get some of it through.

I reported it too.

DaisyAnneReturns your personal attack for no reason on Allira is indeed worthy of reporting.

I did report it Oreo
It is just vile lies with no foundation at all.
It is libellous.

It is quite barmy in fact.

MaizieD Wed 05-Nov-25 14:02:44

I think Mamdani's aspirational policies look fine,. I think he should add in a congestion charge, too grin

The wealthy who he proposes to apply extra taxes to, aren't going to flee New York in any significant number, any more than the UK would lose (or lost) a significant number of wealthy people if they were more heavily taxed (i.e. brought in line with the rest of the population).

His proposals are clearly attractive to New York voters. I hope he can implement them.

MG55 Wed 05-Nov-25 13:54:49

My many relatives who live in New York and California are very happy as well. So too are my many English friends who have no connection at all with New York.
We all see democracy at work and people standing up to Trump!

Good news!
I don't think he's extremist. He's charismatic for sure and probably ambitious. Isn't this what the Democrats need right now as an antidote to Trump?
