Hope can the King do a salute and not know he has dirty white gloves on ? ...he has " People " to make sure everything is tip top .. When he raised his right hand in a salute I was shocked ! Dirty gloves ? What happened ?

I also felt sad that heroism in the line of duty wasn’t well represented by the RF today. Prince Edward wasn’t able to complete his training as a Royal Marine Commando ….. the two men who had contributed to the armed forces were of course absent.

William served in all three armed forces.

Strange thread but here goes. The King's wreath is edged with black leaves. Might it have come from there when he laid the wreath?

Luckygirl3 Mon 10-Nov-25 08:45:32

Oh no! What is the world coming to!?

I envy people who have the headspace for this sort of thing.

If his handsome equerry bloke gets the sack I'll willingly take him on.

I hadn’t noticed but now looking at pictures in the newspaper., yes, his glove was dirty. I think from holding the wreath. Can’t say it bothers me.

It was not dirty. I think anyone would notice they were wearing dirty white gloves.. All were all immaculately turned out.

What about them, maw?

That they're the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh now. Their son James is now Duke of Wessex?

Sophie and Edward’s son James is Earl of Wessex - his fathers title before became he Duke of Edinburgh.

Am I alone in picking up the Duke and Duchess of Wessex ????

Deedaa Sun 09-Nov-25 20:09:17

When it comes to the uniforms the high point for me is always Edward's wonderful coat with the scarlet lining. Hidden shallows I know.

StripeyGran Sun 09-Nov-25 19:58:46

He looks like a throughly decent chap to me.

RosieandherMaw Sun 09-Nov-25 18:18:17

Has to be a first in trivia spotting!
I was more interested in the Radio 4 commentary (I was in the car) which referenced the Duke abd Duchess of Wessex. confusedconfusedconfused

BlueBelle Sun 09-Nov-25 18:14:58

Original Poster is talking about the finger part of the glove which probably picked up some dust or dirt from carrying the wreath Elegran
So petty to even notice it let alone start a thread about it but hey ho some people like to pick holes in everything

Babs03 Sun 09-Nov-25 18:14:04

I didn’t spot this and wouldn’t care if I did.
Today was not about the King’s glove.

Casdon Sun 09-Nov-25 18:05:25

I just see the King being respectful, not his glove, it’s just an incidental part of his clothes, not important.

Elegran Sun 09-Nov-25 17:57:01

Zoom into this pic. What do you see? dirt? A ragged hole? or an opening to get a tight glove over a hand which has been noted in the past as being swollen and sore?

No it is not a strange thing to pick up ... I have never seen any Royal saluting with a dirty glove ... Look at the BBC coverage again .. he was wearing a dirty Glove ...but of course I understand people have a blinkered view of Royalty and cant accept that they can make a mistake ...

Most normal people at the Cenotaph were there to honour those who died for us to have a better future, and you worry about a DIRTY GLOVE?? There is something very worrying about your comment.
I don’t think I’m allowed to call someone stupid on here……more’s the pity.

Photo of salute

I should imagine, if there are marks, it's because it got damp from the wreath.

Just absolutely petty.

You’re quite right. I saw it and was very surprised.

I thought better of you, Petra!
