On Halloween, “concerned citizens” in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, shot fireworks at a hotel housing asylum seekers and encouraged residents to commit suicide during a protest. Flanked by Britain First posters, anti-migrant protesters spouted Islamophobic hate and abuse at police officers outside the Cresta Court Hotel.
There you go, in the name of God what have we become?

So nothing happened and this whole thread is a waste of time.
I am awaiting replies to a couple of emails.
I wasn't aware of the fact that you are running Gransnet.
www.rspca.org.uk/getinvolved/campaign/fireworks
This is an RSPCA campaign but does include the fear caused to communities by fireworks which are sold to the general public, including those who use them for the wrong reasons.
Me neither and I am not going to follow people like that on Facebook.
And not just in Manchester.
Not a waste, as I had never before heard of Ashlea Simon.
And now know that racist thugs do set fireworks off at migrant hotels.
Nothing to see here.
Move along folks.
We're creating a public disturbance.

I suspected it was from the start! 😉

I wonder which Party those 'concerned citizens' vote for.
growstuff I am definitely not calling you a fantasist or a liar!
I have an X account, perhaps Ashlea Simon deleted the video, unless someone else has re-posted it, then it is lost in the ether.
Those who were allegedly inciting/chanting throw yourself out of a window would have been arrested/questioned by the Police.
This in itself would have been all over social media, particularly X .
The silence round this incident, is in itself odd

growstuff the only thing I could find on the alleged incident is on HopenotHate’s website.
I explained a number of times (sigh). The only report you'll find on Google is the HnH website (which I wouldn't dismiss out of hand anyway).
People's perception is distorted by the media. Just because something isn't reported in the traditional media (including Google searches) doesn't mean it didn't take place. Many many incidents happen every single day and are never reported, so just disappear into the mists of time.
I went on to X (Twitter) and used X's search facility.
I resent the implication that I am a fantasist or a liar.
I wasn't there, so I can't be a witness. I read the HnH report. I know HnH have a history of not being entirely reliable and are obviously biased, but they do some solid investigative reporting, which nobody else ever covers. The Ashlea Simon post was authentic. All I did was report it - as I read it - and I don't see a reason why she would have faked it. She's actually a dangerous individual.
I'm not saying any more. The incident is over. I believe it happened, although I can't prove it.

Once again, the 'lefties' are the goodies and the 'rights' are the bad guys. The government is to blame. They have deliberately provoked the British public with their treatment of the migrants. I agree that encouraging people to commit suicide is not acceptable but people have tried peaceful means of protest and it has had no effect. Extreme measures are needed. If the precious migrants are deemed to be at risk, I'm sure the government will put their safety first and move them to somewhere more secure. Which is exactly what is needed.
What extreme measures do you suggest?
PS. I agree with Babs03. It is a puerile argument, which doesn't stand up to scrutiny in any civilised debate.

What a puerile argument.
You seem to think that if peaceful protests don’t work people can be forgiven for behaving terribly.
So by the same token you must think that if pro Palestinian protests don’t get the government to do their bidding it is ok for them to become violent/unruly? No?
I agree that the government are to blame but if people were to take to the streets in lynch mobs every time someone wants the government to do something about a particular issue, this country would descend into anarchy.
And nobody is saying anything about left or right politics here, I doubt that everyone with right wing politics thinks that people taking the law into their own hands and behaving horribly is in any way an ok thing to do and will not seek to justify it.

So it's fake news. Why?
How insulting!! Are you calling me a liar now? It's almost certainly not fake news. I have described exactly what I found out and saw on a video. Fortunately, nobody was hurt and there was no damage to property, so no media outlet picked up on it. I already knew who Ashlea Simon is because I keep an eye on the far right. It frightens me that there are those who shrug off their antics.
So it's fake news. Why?

The story originated from Hope not Hate, a charitable organisation dedicated to fighting what they perceive as right-wing influences, and was reported in the Manchester Evening News. The incident took place at Halloween, no specific date given.
"Hope Not Hate holds progressive left editorial and advocacy biases while consistently publishing fact-based information."
Failed Fact Checks:"None in the Last 5 years. They are referenced by fact-checkers for information on the Far-Right and Hate information."
"Overall, we rate HOPE Not Hate as Left Biased for its critical stance on far-right politics and high for factual reporting due to its use of credible sources, detailed data analysis and clean fact-check record. (M.Huitsing 12/28/2023) & Politico Europe
Curiously, the story matched what Ashlea Simon wrote. It's very possible that she was the organiser. Her perspective was slightly different. She didn't, of course, mention the unexploded firework on the roof or shouting goady comments at the immigrants, but the date and other details matched. HopenotHate and Britain First hate and despise each other, so it's not likely that they would collude about a story such as this.
I would be very surprised if it turned out to be fictional - maybe exaggerated, but most of it seems to be true.

Chatgpt can't find anything apart from Hope Not Hate and Gransnet. It said that police reported a number of firework related incidents around that time, but no specifics.
I suspect that a fact checking site might not do any better.
I found the reference Ashlea Simon made to it by going on to X and putting Alrincham and fireworks into X's search box (I think). It didn't come up in Google directly. Like most far-right characters, she has a habit of editing and deleting posts. I don't know if it's still there - I'll see if I can find it, but people will need to have an X account to read it.
They are cruel and wicked people who have nothing to offer this country or the world but their hatred.

Maizie If it was just any woman, I probably wouldn't have given it much thought, but this woman is the co-leader of Britain First, who have been orchestrating the meetings outside the Cresta Hotel in Altrincham. It doesn't make sense for her to have faked it - she was boasting about it while going to great pains to emphasise that she wan't actually there. There was a video with her post, but I don't know how to save videos and I think it's been taken down now. There might be some other copies of it.
Sometimes people like to boast about things that haven’t actually happened.
