The Hokey Cokey … migrant crossings - 1,000 in;

And then 1 out in exchange for another 1 in; and then that 1 out coming back in as part of the next 1,000 in...

This is a joke.
Except it’s not funny.

The fact that they are planning on putting changes through Parliament shows that they do have the will. Making it law. It's what a civilised society does.
What do you suggest they do while the legislation is approved by our democratically elected politicians?
What are you actually suggesting should happen?
Within the law of course.

Here we are on Gransnet in the highly developed West and we're only just grasping what border biosecurity technology means for all of us. That your face can be measured and matched by AI; and so can your irises and that info is held on international records. Even if you lost your passport.

Its very bad news for the crooks selling a death-seat on a channel rubber boat. The last thing they want their clients to know is "ONCE YOU HAVE LANDED, even if you have no papers no passport and lie about who you are.... TPTB are going to CREATE a new ID for you and record it in ways you will never escape.".

It's going to take some time for that message to filter back to desperate third world migrants in a make-shift camp in a strange country being sold a fairy tale of what's on offer in UK.

When the news of digital ID sinks in, then surely entry by boat to beach (met by TPTB) will seem far less attractive.

Well said...the Australians would never have put up with this from the start..Was it £2000 our government were giving them to go to France?,,,they probably saw that as a ticket back here..

I believe there is little fear from a Socialist Government, hence the current influx. They may say they are tackling the problem but do they have the political will?
I doubt it.
I am really sorry to advocate strong arm tactics suggested on all these threads but cannot see another way.
Straight off the boats into prison.

Then back out of prison and back on the boat they arrived on with fuel, food and water and send them back from where they came on a calm day in daylight hours. This tactic worked for Australia and could work for us. All we need now is someone with the guts to put it into place.

how very true this is, I know we need imigrants, and some have came here in the past, but not in the thousands that are arriving every week.there's no housing for them for a start, and as has been said before, if you're coming here legally, it would be by a legal route..not a dingy, they must have the money to travel legally but they choose not to.

The guy they deported a few days was back in our country almost by return. Obviously he can afford to pay people smugglers twice. No doubt he will try a third time.

I overheard at the bowls club today someone saying that this country is finished and they feel sorry for their grandson!

Pretty much how I feel at the moment. The UK is a fairly small area and the huge increase of asylum seekers/illegal migrants, call them what you will, over recent years has changed our country and not always for the better. Far too many are arriving in this country when they have no valid claim to be here. Consequently the NHS, education, housing, the Police and Prison Service to name just a few are in crisis. There are no checks on who comes over our border so murderers, sexual offenders, criminal gangs and money laundering operations are rife. All we hear from the politicians of all parties is waffle and promises but there seems little to no action.
I echo what was said at Teazel2 bowls club. People who play bowls are by and large the older generation who remember when this was GREAT Britain. It's not that anymore.

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

At the bowls club? Must be true then.

Why is it less relevant there than anywhere else? What a nasty, sarcastic comment but then I expect no different from you.

I was reading today that the total number of migrants so far this year ( under Labour’s Smash the Gangs plan) would fill a town the size of Leeds.

In one year. And next year? Equivalent to the population of Birmingham?

That includes immigrants with visas, who are here perfectly legitimately and have paid for their visas and NHS surcharge. They also pay income tax (if they work) and other taxes when they buy anything. It also includes students, who are currently propping up our universities and subsidising fees for home students. Moreover, there's a "churn" with students. Hundreds of thousands come for one year and then go home, as more hundreds of thousands come for a year and go home ... and so on.

Leeds has a population of 812,000. No way have there been 812,000 immigrants who wouldn't have come, even if the gangs had been smashed. The country actually needs most of its immigrants.

The student visa scheme is being abused.

Illegal 'in his opinion' is exactly that, just his opinion.

Maremia Tue 11-Nov-25 09:36:21

Easy to google that for yourself LadyGracie and perhaps come back with the information you have gleaned?

What ? If they come to the country by illegal means with no passports ? Good grief. Everyone can come to your country then, why bother paying for a passport or visa, waste of time and money.

I know, madness isn’t it?

A former Border Force official was on TV last night and he said the people coming on dinghies are here illegally in his opinion.

LadyGracie Tue 11-Nov-25 08:26:37

And what are the new rules?
They won’t be beneficial to anyone except the illegal immigrants I should imagine.
This government is a joke, not a backbone between them and the previous one was no better.

Maremia Tue 11-Nov-25 08:23:25

Could that be counted as 'anecdotal'?

No Primrose, the rules are changing and it is the Labour government that is changing them.

Maremia Tue 11-Nov-25 08:06:51

Also, Labour is moving to change the terms and conditions for people being given settled status, making Britain a less favourable destination for 'economic' migrants.
That is an 'improvement'.
Labour can do nothing to change the need for people to flee war zones.

Under international law, it is not illegal to arrive in a country and claim asylum. If the system worked efficiently, claims for asylum would be processed quickly and those not eligible for asylum could be returned ... to somewhere. And that's the first problem, if it's not known where the country of origin is, where should they be returned to? The UK can't just fly people to some random country and dump them because the country might refuse to accept them and would fly them back. There have to be international agreements.

No, nanna, people can't stay indefinitely or work if they don't have a visa. It's not a waste of time and money.

Sorry to disappoint some Posters but since June 2024, under Labour, there has been a 28 per cent increased return of failed asylum seekers, compared to the previous year, under the Tories.

The government figures have never differentiated between illegal migrants being removed and people over staying their visas.
The majority of people removed are over stayers. Not illegal migrants.

migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/briefings/returns-of-unauthorised-migrants-from-the-uk/

Overstayers are illegal immigrants. As you say quite rightly, most immigrants here illegally are visa overstayers. Asylum seekers are not here illegally, unless their application is refused.
