Testing on animals...

I heard about this on the radio this morning.

What excellent news.

I remember my daughter, when she first worked for Glaxo was asked pre-employment if she minded working with animals - her reply an emphatic yes, so they never expected her to work with any animal.

In fact she used to house rabbits who had done their stint. They were always huge, and I must say in beautiful condition - never knew what was tested on them.

We were talking at the weekend about the way farm animals are treated and the way they were killed. Then went on to what a pigs ear humans have made of the planet, the way they treat other humans etc.

We decided that we were probably the worst pariah species on the planet.

Science has moved on and testing in animals is no longer the only way to trial new drugs, cosmetics even soap or toothpaste.

Let’s not forget how many lives have been saved over the years because of these experiments.

I will be pleased if this comes onto the statute books.

I'm very much on the fence here as I am with lots of things, and I'm ashamed. I wonder how many products would disappear from out shelves and hospitals if animal testing had never been allowed.
Most cosmetics and cleaning products for starters, not forgetting most medicines .............

Will medicines and products for animals still be allowed to be tested on the relevant animals?

Or will the ban apply to those products too?

Before they approve meds for humans, the products are tested on real people.
Difference is the humans get paid.

Well, some humans get paid. But some do actually just take any possible risks in order to further treatment of their condition and hopefully gain some benefit for themselves.

That’s what happens with a lot of medical trials.

It’s a great idea, but many of us mightn’t be well or even be here if it wasn’t for the testing.
Let’s see if this thread will celebrate the future and not turn it into another campaign complaining about the past.

This seems a very good idea. Hopefully modern science may be able to test drugs in laboratories on tissue samples and use computer modelling when needed.

Yes, a friend who had cancer did this for a while.

At one time 'cloned' tissue was mentioned.

I hope this happens quickly . Don’t forget in testing , whether paid or not, humans have an informed choice, animals do not.
