He must be getting something in return from a third party. Russia pulling the strings behind the scenes?

A Peerage?

He must be getting something in return. All the political parties work in the same way, they rely on donations but this leaves them open to bribes. He must feel confident that Reform will win the next election.

How much influence does £9 million buy?

The donor must think - quite a lot.

CabbageWars13 Fri 05-Dec-25 01:11:52

The very same Nigel Farage currently having accusations of racism and anti‐semitism piling up against him from former pupils of Dulwich College?

I wonder why the crypto billionaire has donated £9 million to Reform …

“Mr Farage has backed the deregulation of crypto and, shortly after receiving the donation, publicly promoted Tether, the cryptocurrency company that Mr Harborne is a shareholder in.” (The Independent)

Mmm🤔

Elegran

I hope he doesn't wear a red baseball cap.

He looks surprisingly quite ordinary!

i do not think anyone should be able to donate to a British political party unless they are domiciled in the UK and paying their taxes here.

I agree.

ronib Thu 04-Dec-25 22:09:52

It’s a bit worrying I guess. What is the payback?

butterandjam Thu 04-Dec-25 21:38:30

Will it be taxed? Just asking

What a bonanza for Reform! He must be a real fan of the Party and believe that they stand a good chance in the next GE.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 04-Dec-25 20:23:14

I suppose you’re right Allira in tgat there’s no such thing as a free lunch.

Labour and the unions? 🤔

Allira Thu 04-Dec-25 19:57:35

😲

The question is why?

He has lived in Thailand for 20 years and is Thai-British, aka Chakrit Sakunkrit, according to Sky News.

Cossy Thu 04-Dec-25 19:41:13

Oh! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 04-Dec-25 19:18:44

A Thailand-based cryptocurrency investor has handed a record £9m to Nigel Farage’s Reform.

Christopher Harborne, who previously gave £1m to Boris Johnson and millions of pounds to the Brexit Party, has given the cash to Reform as it tops the polls and seeks to woo senior Conservatives.

It is the biggest single donation from a living person to any British political party.
